The Effect of Exports on Growth of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises: Evidence from Vietnamese Manufacturing Firms

Ngan Thi Thanh LE 한국유통과학회 2022 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.9 No.1

The paper aims to examine the impact of exports on the growth of Vietnamese manufacturing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) by exploring the information of 36,053 enterprises across 24 manufacturing sectors from the Vietnam Annual Enterprise Survey (VAES) in the period 2014–2019. To deal with the problem of variable variance, autocorrelation, and endogeneity of the model, the paper uses the OLS regression method with a strong standard error method and system GMM. Export participation by SMEs is positively associated with business growth in terms of sales and total assets, according to the findings. The GMM estimate shows that the rate of sales growth among exporters is 36.5 percent greater than that of non-exporting enterprises in the case of the sales growth measure. Exporters’ average total asset growth rate is 19% greater than the rate estimated for non-exporting businesses. The study’s findings indicate the need of adopting policies that promote SMEs in transition economies like Vietnam to engage in exporting activities. Furthermore, the findings show that financial assistance and suitable ownership would enable SMEs to take advantage of export opportunities to increase sales and total assets.

Factors that Affect Customers Satisfaction: An Empirical Study of Export-Import Service Consultant Companies in Vietnam

LE, Thai Thanh Dat,HO, Thi Thanh Ngan,LE, Nguyen Truc Quyen,HUYNH, Thi Khanh Tuyen,NGUYEN, Minh Tri,LUU, Thi Mai Anh,HOANG, Thi Phuong Thao,NGUYEN, Trong Luan Korea Distribution Science Association 2022 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.9 No.6

The purpose of the study is to analyze the significant impacts of expectations, performance, complaints, and fairness that affect consumer satisfaction. The methodology involves reviewing and referencing relevant literature carefully, then proposing a model for customer satisfaction. This study is empirically based on a survey with 50 respondents who work in the field of import and export in the region stretching from the north to the south of Vietnam. The sampling method used in this study is the in-depth interview method. The results show that: (1) expectation has a specific impact on customer satisfaction, (2) performance has a positive impact on customer satisfaction, and (3) complaint which is an intermediary factor between expectation, performance, and fairness has an impact on satisfaction, (4) fairness has a positive effect on satisfaction, in addition, fairness is an extremely important feature when customers choose an import-export service. Research implies that increasing expectations, performance, and fairness results in an improved customer experience and satisfaction when they use the service. It is suggested that the complaint factor continue to be studied and looked into because it still has some effect on satisfaction and is an intermediate variable that changes how the other factors relate to each other.

The responsibility of C-terminal domain in the thermolabile haemolysin activity of Vibrio parahaemolyticus and inhibition treatments by Phellinus sp. extracts

Tran Thi Huyen,Ha Phuong Trang,Nguyen Thi-Ngan,Bui Dinh-Thanh,Le Pham Tan Quoc,Trinh Ngoc Nam 한국수산과학회 2023 Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences Vol.26 No.3

The thermolabile haemolysin (tlh) of Vibrio parahaemolyticus (Vptlh) from V. parahaemolyticus is a multiple-function enzyme, initially describes as a haemolytic factor activated by lecithin and phospholipase A2 enzymatic activity (Shinoda, 1991; Vazquez-Morado, 2021; Yanagase et al., 1970). Until now, the tlh structure has hypothesized including N-terminal and C-terminal domain, but what domain of the Vptlh structure does the haemolytic activity has not been refined yet. In this study, a 450-bp VpTLH nucleotide sequence of the entire Vptlh gene encoded the C-terminal domain cloned firstly to examine its responsibility in the activity of the Vptlh. The C-terminal domain fused with a 6-His-tag named the His-tag-VpC-terminal domain was expressed successfully in soluble form in the BL21 (DE3) PlysS cell. Remarkably, both expression and purification results confirmed a high agreement in the molecular weight of the His-tag-VpC-terminal domain was 47 kDa. This work showed the His-tag-VpC-terminal domain lysed the erythrocyte membranes in the blood agar and the phosphate buffered saline (0.9%) media without adding the lecithin substrate of the phospholipase enzyme. Haemolysis occurred at all tested diluted concentrations of His-tag-VpC-terminal domain (p < 0.05), providing evidence for the independent haemolytic activity of the His-tag-VpC-terminal domain. The content of 100 μg of the His-tag-VpC-terminal domain brought the highest haemolytic activity of 80% compared to that in the three remaining contents. Significantly, the His-tag-VpC-terminal domain demonstrated not to involve the phospholipase activity in Luria-Bertani agar supplemented with 1% (vol/vol) egg yolk emulsion. All results proved the vital responsibility of the His-tag-VpC-terminal domain in causing the haemolytic activity without the required activation by the phospholipase enzyme. Raw extracts of Phellinus igniarus and Phellinus pipi at 10–1 mg/mL inhibited the haemolytic activity of the His-tag-VpC-terminal domain from 67.7% to 87.42%, respectively. Hence applying the His-tag-VpC-terminal domain as a simple biological material to evaluate quickly potential derivatives against the Vptlh in vivo conditions will accessible and more advantageous than using the whole of the Vptlh.

Pathological brain lesions in girls with central precocious puberty at initial diagnosis in Southern Vietnam

        Huynh Quynh Thi Vu,Ho Ban Tran,Le Nguyen Quoc Khanh,Trinh Tung Huu,Lam Luu Ho Thanh,Nguyen Ngan Thi Kim,Huang Shih-Yi 대한소아내분비학회 2022 Apem Vol.27 No.2

Purpose: Cranial magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is recommended to identify intracranial lesions in girls with central precocious puberty (CPP). Yet, the use of routine MRI scans in girls with CPP is still debatable, as pathological findings in girls 6 years of age or older with CPP are limited. Therefore, we aimed to identify the prevalence of brain lessons in CPP patients stratified by age group (0–2, 2–6, and 6–8 years). Methods: This retrospective cross-sectional study recruited 257 girls diagnosed with CPP for 6 years (2010–2016). MRI was used to detect brain abnormalities. Levels of luteinizing hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone, and sex hormones in blood samples were measured. Results: Most girls had no brain lesions (82.9%, n=213), and of the minor proportion of girls with CPP that exhibited brain lesions (17.1%, n=44), 32 girls had organic CPP. Pathological findings were detected in 33.3% (2 of 6) of girls aged 0–2 years, 15.6% (5 of 32) of girls aged 2–6 years, and 3.6% (8 of 219) of girls aged 6–8 years. Hypothalamic hamartoma and tumors in the pituitary stalk were the most common pathological findings. The likelihood of brain lesions decreased with age. Girls with organic CPP were more likely to be younger (6.1±2.4 vs. 7.3±1.3 years, p<0.01) than girls with idiopathic CPP.Conclusion: Older girls appeared to have a lower prevalence of organic CPP. Clinicians should cautiously use cranial MRI for girls aged 6–8 years with CPP.

        Nguyen Phuong Thao,Bui Thi Thuy Luyen,Nguyen Thi Thanh Ngan,Le Duc Dat,Nguyen Xuan Cuong,Nguyen Hoai Nam,Phan Van Kiem,Seok Bean Song,Chau Van Minh,김영호 대한약학회 2015 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.38 No.5

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors(PPARs) are ligand-activated transcription factors thatregulate the expression of multiple genes involved inmetabolic, anti-inflammatory, and developmental processes. This study evaluated the PPARs transactivationaleffects of thirteen cembranoid diterpenoids 1–13 from thesoft coral Lobophytum crassum, using PPAR-responsiveelements–luciferase reporter and GAL4–PPAR chimeraassays. All isolated compounds activated the transcriptionof PPARs in a dose-dependent manner, with EC50 valuesranging from 2.07 ± 1.73 to 130.20 ± 1.85 lM. Moreover, compounds 6–9 affected the transactivation of allthree PPAR types, PPARa, c, b(d), in a dose-dependentmanner, with EC50 values in a ranging from 11.92 ± 1.23to 122.50 ± 2.12 lM. These results provide a scientificrationale for further studies on the soft coral L. crassum andits diterpenoid constituents to develop medicinal productsagainst inflammatory and metabolic diseases.

Whole-exome sequencing identifies two novel missense mutations (p.L111P and p.R3048C) of RYR3 in a Vietnamese patient with autism spectrum disorders

        Thu Hien Nguyen,Thi Thanh Ngan Nguyen,Bac Viet Le,Ngoc Minh Thanh,Thi Kim Lien Nguyen,Van Hai Nong,Huy Hoang Nguyen 한국유전학회 2017 Genes & Genomics Vol.39 No.3

Autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) are a group of neurodevelopmental disorders characterized by ritualistic- repetitive behaviors and impaired verbal and non-verbal communication. Boys are more likely to be diagnosed with ASD than girls. Genetics have been shown to play a key role in the etiology of autism. Many genes were found to be implicated in the inheritance of idiopathic autism. Analysis of mutation abnormalities associated with autism contributes significantly to the identification of autism candidate genes. Whole-exome sequencing has been shown as an application of the next generation sequencing technology used to determine the variations of all coding regions, or exons of the known genes. In the present study, we have found two novel heterozygous missense mutations (p.L111P and p.R3048C) on the RYR3 gene, which was located in the autism susceptibility region (15q14-q15) in a 9-year-old boy with ASD. Therefore, the sequence missense mutations provide the first suggestive link between a genetic abnormality in the RYR3 gene and a neurodevelopmental disorder.
