        In 2013 and 2014, students and professors from Ringling College of Art and Design (USA) and Yonsei University (S. Korea) partnered on a collaborative design studio project for SPC group, a major global conglomerate of food and confectionery products headquartered in Seoul, South Korea. SPC group challenged the international student teams to create new store design concepts for their Paris Baguette and Paris Croissant chains, top European bakery cafe franchises with over 3,500 units worldwide. The PB chain is well represented across Asia and has a growing presence in the United States, where it is known as Paris Baguette Cafe. Each student team had to overcome language, cultural and time differences to meet the client’s needs and wants first.

        미세먼지 저감대책으로서 바람길 적용 방안 : 세종시를 대상으로

        본 연구에서는 내륙 분지에 위치하여 대기 정체율이 높은 세종시를 대상으로 미세먼지의 저감을 위한 바람길의 적용방안을 도출하고 정책적 대안을 제시하였다. 도시내 바람길의 도입을 위해서는 첫째, 신도시 건설에 따른 신선한 대기의 변화 흐름을 파악하고 둘째, 도시공간에서 바람길을 확보함으로써 대기순환을 촉진해야함을 밝혀낼 수 있었다. 본 연구에서는 미세먼지 저감 효과를 검증하기 위하여 전산유체역학모형을 활용하였다. 구체적으로는 도시 건설 전과 후의 탁월풍의 풍속, 풍향 변화와 일몰 후 생성된 시원한 공기가 낮은 지대를 따라 흐르는 특성이 분석되었다. 이와 더불어 블록단위에서 바람길과 순응하는 건축물을 배치 시 미세먼지 저감 효과를 정량적으로 검증하였다. 모의실험을 통해 제시 가능한 정책적 함의는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 산, 숲, 골짜기에서 내려오는 신선한 공기가 도시 안으로 원활히 유입, 분산되어 미세먼지 농도를 낮출 수 있도록 바람통로를 조성하고, 적절한 건축물 배치계획을 수립한다. 둘째, 미세먼지 농도가 낮은 지역에는 공원, 광장, 놀이터 등 공공시설들을 우선적으로 설치하여 미세먼지로부터 안전한 옥외활동을 유인하도록 한다. 마지막으로, 지구단위계획 등 도시계획 수립 과정에서 바람길 분석을 통해 최적의 대안을 마련할 것을 제안한다. The purpose of this study is to verify the effects of ventilation corridor and derive adequate policy alternatives to its application for the city of Sejong, which is located in an inland of Korean Peninsula. In order to introduce the ventilation corridor in the city, it is necessary both to understand change on fresh air flow affected by the construction of new cities and to show its effects which are able to circulate air flow of the city. The study identified ventilation effects using computational fluid dynamics models. In particular, it analyzed change on wind speed and direction after constructing of a new town and cool air flow along the lowlands generated after sunset. In addition, it identified those of reducing particulate matter when arranging buildings conforming to the ventilation corridor at block level. The policy implications derived from simulation can be summarized as follows. First, it is desirable to plan ventilation corridors so that fresh air from mountains, forests, and valleys can flow into cities and mitigate the concentration of particulate matter. Furthermore, public facilities covering parks, plazas, and playgrounds should be installed preferentially to attract safe outdoor activities near to areas with low levels of particulate matter. Finally, it is adequate to prepare for a number of alternative plans by analyzing ventilation corridors when setting out district unit plan.

        코로나시대에 대응하는 옥외공간으로서 국내외 발코니 비교 연구

        This study seeks to overcome COVID-19 and re-examine the balcony as a new, differentiated residential space that requires change in the coming post-corona era. In this study, theoretical considerations on the concept and definition of the balcony and the original purpose and function are reviewed. This study compares and analyzes standards and cases for open balconies that can function as private outdoor spaces in Korea and major foreign countries. The key results of this study are as follows. First, while in Korea, the system is operated to install an open balcony as one of the specialized measures in terms of urban landscape, overseas, the system is designed to perform the original function of the balcony, such as a comfortable living environment and space for evacuation that it is operating. Second, while in Korea, the scale of installation of balconies is limited through regulations that exclude the inclusion of floor area, in overseas countries, specific standards for the shape of open balconies, such as the protruding width and length, are prepared. As a follow-up to this study, institutional research should be conducted to specify the standard for the shape and size of external balconies, and safety and performance standards.

      • A Method for the Development of Value-added Service Business Model and its System in Consideration of Korea Power Market

        Utilities in advanced power markets realized the importance of power value-added services, and they have studied power value-added services and the infrastructure for the services. In Korea, we also know the importance of power value-added services but R&D for the services is not vitalized. As time goes by, the importance of the services will be increased because the services are caused by the change of power market and this change will continue. Because this power value-added service market is the Blue ocean which is undeveloped yet, it has potentialities to penetrate world market which these services are not introduced. In this paper, we will introduce how to develop the value added-service BM(Business Model) and its system for Korea power market through analyzing international power market change, the effect of this change for Korea power market and present state of Korea power value-added service environment.

      • Direction of Development of Portable Air Purification Devices for Nuclear Power Plant Decommissioning

        In the dismantling of nuclear power plants, various forms of radioactive gaseous waste are generated when cutting concrete and metal structures. Large amounts of radioactive dust and aerosols generated during the cutting process of each structure can cause radiation exposure to the environment around the workplace and to the radiation exposure in the body of workers. When cutting structures, water is sprayed to reduce the generation of aerosols, so early saturation of the filter is expected due to radioactive aerosols and fine particles containing a large amount of moisture. A mobile air purification device is being developed to a fast and efficient air purifier that can be used for a long time operation to protect workers from radiation exposure in high radiation areas and to minimize the amount of secondary waste generated. In this paper, the direction for a new concept of unit technology that can achieve the development purpose is described.

        텍스트 마이닝 기법을 활용한 SNS 상에서 우울감을 언급한 도시공원 이용자의 이용행태 분석

        본 연구는 COVID-19 대유행에 의한 우울감과 공원 이용행태의 관계를 온라인상에 게시된 공원 이용에 대한 게시물을 이용하여 분석하고자 하였다. COVID-19 방역이 활발해진 기간 동안 네이버와 다음의 블로그 및 카페에서 ‘공원’과 ‘우울’을 포함한 텍스트 데이터를 수집하여 텍스트 마이닝(Text Mining)과 소셜 네트워크(Social Network)분석을 하였다. 연구결과, 우울감을 언급한 공원 이용자는 ‘보다’, ‘산책/걷다’, ‘먹다’의 이용행태를 주로 보였고, 소통 행태인 ‘보다’를 중심으로 다른 이용행태들이 연결되는 것으로 나타났다. CONCOR 분석 결과, 소통 행태 및 동적 행태의 군집의 경우, 단일 행태 유형으로 군집이 형성되어, 우울감을 언급한 이용자는 공원을 소통활동과 신체활동을 위한 공간으로 인식하는 경향이 나타났다. COVID-19의 대유행으로 소통활동과 신체활동의 결핍이 증가되었고 공원에서 이를 해소하려는 것으로 해석되었다. 또한 우울감의 발생으로 상대적으로 소극적인 이용행태가 주요한 이용행태로 나타났다. 본 연구결과는 도시민에게 효과적인 공원의 조성 및 관리 계획에 유용할 것으로 판단되었다. 후속 연구에서 COVID-19 대유행과 우울감의 유무를 연계한 공원 이용자의 이용행태 분석이 필요한 것으로 판단되었다. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between depression due to the COVID-19 pandemic and park use behaviors using on line posts. During the period of the pandemic prevention activities, text data containing both ‘park’ and ‘depression’ were collected from blogs and cafes in the search engine of Naver and Daum, then analyzed using Text Mining and Social Network techniques. As a result, the main usage behaviors of park users who mentioned depression were ‘look’, ‘stroll(walk)’ and ‘eat’. Other types of behaviors were connected centering around ‘look’, one of the communication behaviors. Also, from CONCOR analysis, as the cluster referred from communication behavior and dynamic behavior was formed as a single behavior type, it was considered park users with depression perceived the park as the space for communication and physical activities. As the spread of COVID-19 caused the restriction of communication activities, the users might consider parks as one of the solutions. In addition, it was considered that passive usage behaviors have prevailed rather than active ones due to the depression. Resulting outcomes would be useful to plan helpful urban park for citizens. It is necessary to further analyze the park use behavior of users in relation to the period of before/after the COVID-19 pandemic and the existence/nonexistence of depression.

        Clinical Characteristics and Treatment Outcomes of Patients with Hepatitis C Virus and Human Immunodeficiency Virus Coinfection: Experience at a Single Center in Korea

        Background: Because of the very low incidence of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) coinfection in Korea, data on hepatitis C virus (HCV)/HIV coinfection are limited. This study aimed to investigate the clinical characteristics and treatment outcomes of patients with HCV/HIV coinfection in Korea. Methods: We performed a retrospective cohort study of all HCV-monoinfected and HCV/ HIV-coinfected patients treated with antivirals at National Medical Center in Seoul, Korea, between January 2009 and March 2020. Results: We enrolled 220 HCV-monoinfected and 23 HCV/HIV-coinfected patients treated with antivirals. The HCV/HIV-coinfected patients were younger (HCV vs. HCV/HIV: 57.3 ± 11.3 vs. 40.7 ± 10.1 years, P < 0.001) and had a higher proportion of men (HCV vs. HCV/ HIV: 54.5% [n = 120] vs. 91.3% [n = 21], P < 0.001) than the HCV-monoinfected patients. Genotype 1b and 2 were most common in both HCV monoinfection and HCV/HIV coinfection groups. HCV-monoinfected patients had a higher incidence of genotype 1b and 2 than HCV/HIV-coinfected patients (HCV vs. HCV/HIV: 95.4% [n = 210] vs. 73.9% [n = 17], P < 0.001), while the HCV/HIV-coinfected patients had genotype 1a (HCV vs. HCV/HIV: 1.8% [n = 4] vs. 21.7% [n = 5], P < 0.001). The fibrosis-4 index was significantly lower in the HCV/ HIV-coinfected patients than in the HCV-monoinfected patients (HCV vs. HCV/HIV: 3.81 ± 3.38 vs. 1.66 ± 1.10, P < 0.001). Among the direct-acting antivirals (DAA)-treated patients, the sustained viral response (SVR) rate did not differ significantly between both groups (HCV vs. HCV/HIV: 94.9% [93/99] vs. 90.9% [10/11], P = 0.480). Conclusion: In Korea, the HCV/HIV-coinfected patients who received antiviral treatment were younger, had higher proportion of men and incidence of genotype 1a, and had less advanced fibrosis than the HCV-monoinfected patients. In actual clinical settings, HCV/HIV-coinfected patients show excellent SVR to DAA treatment, similar to HCVmonoinfected patients.

        전기화학 증착 기술과 고체산화물연료전지에의 응용

        This review paper describes the principle of electrochemical deposition and introduces recent studies applying it to the electrode fabrication of a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC), a next-generation energy conversion device. Electrochemical deposition can easily control the structure and morphology of the deposition layer according to the applied bias/time/temperature, etc., and the process is very simple and possible even at low temperatures. In addition, deposition of cerium-based oxides, which are the representative ion-conductors or mixed-conductors widely used for SOFCs, is also possible via electrochemical deposition. To elucidate the effectiveness/novelty of electrochemical deposition, we present examples of the application of electrochemical deposition in SOFCs. Moreover, examples of using this method to study the properties of a material and/or to fabricate perovskite oxide-based electrodes are included.
