Hybrid Additive Microfabrication Scaffold Incorporated with Highly Aligned Nanofibers for Musculoskeletal Tissues

        Dilshan Sooriyaarachchi,Hugo J. Minière,Shahrima Maharubin,George Z. Tan 한국조직공학과 재생의학회 2019 조직공학과 재생의학 Vol.16 No.1

BACKGROUND: Latest tissue engineering strategies for musculoskeletal tissues regeneration focus on creating a biomimetic microenvironment closely resembling the natural topology of extracellular matrix. This paper presents a novel musculoskeletal tissue scaffold fabricated by hybrid additive manufacturing method. METHODS: The skeleton of the scaffold was 3D printed by fused deposition modeling, and a layer of random or aligned polycaprolactone nanofibers were embedded between two frames. A parametric study was performed to investigate the effects of process parameters on nanofiber morphology. A compression test was performed to study the mechanical properties of the scaffold. Human fibroblast cells were cultured in the scaffold for 7 days to evaluate the effect of scaffold microstructure on cell growth. RESULTS: The tip-to-collector distance showed a positive correlation with the fiber alignment, and the electrospinning time showed a negative correlation with the fiber density. With reinforced nanofibers, the hybrid scaffold demonstrated superior compression strength compared to conventional 3D-printed scaffold. The hybrid scaffold with aligned nanofibers led to higher cell attachment and proliferation rates, and a directional cell organization. In addition, there was a nonlinear relationship between the fiber diameter/density and the cell actinfilament density. CONCLUSION: This hybrid biofabrication process can be established as a highly efficient and scalable platform to fabricate biomimetic scaffolds with patterned fibrous microstructure, and will facilitate future development of clinical solutions for musculoskeletal tissue regeneration.

Experimental study on strengthening of R.C beam using glass fibre reinforced composite

        Mini, K.M.,Alapatt, Rini John,David, Anjana Elizabeth,Radhakrishnan, Aswathy,Cyriac, Minu Maria,Ramakrishnan, R. Techno-Press 2014 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.50 No.3

This paper reports the influence of number of layers and length of GFRP sheets wrapped onto RCC beams for strengthening. Twelve beams of size $700mm{\times}150mm{\times}150mm$ were cast and tested. Two beams without GFRP and ten beams wrapped in different lay-up patterns with one and two layers of GFRP sheets was subjected to three point loading test and ultrasonic pulse velocity test. Initial crack load, ultimate failure load and types of failure have been observed and noted. Experimental results indicate a significant increase in initial and ultimate load carrying capacity of GFRP wrapped beams compared to unwrapped beams. The failed control specimen was retrofitted using U wrap scheme and tested under three point loading.

      • Enhanced Cloud Web Services Using Community Structure Based Complex Networks

Mini Singh Ahuja,Sonia Jasrotia 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Hybrid Information Techno Vol.8 No.7

A Web service is a well defined concept of a set of computational or physical activities involving a number of resources, designed to fulfill the needs of customers or for business requirement. Community structure is the most common topological structure in complex networks. A significant characteristic of complex networks is that they are generally composed of highly inner connected sub networks called community. It is very helpful and important to understand the features of these communities. This paper has focused on the community structure of structural service networks formed by public web services available on the Internet. The overall objective is to enhance the cloud web services using complex networks.

      • A Study on the Fashion Design Work of "Going to"

        ( Mini Nam ) 복식문화학회 2003 워크샵 Vol.2003 No.-

The piece of work tries to express going out for a traditional place. It expresses the image of modem asphalt road with the dark blue of the skirt, the straight line of the skirt width, and the oblique line of colored stitch. The traditional special image is expresses with the skirt width, the collar of Jeogori (upper garment), and the edge line of Jeogori, which are not wide, and the flower embroidery on Hyangdae (the women``s portable perfume pouch) and on the rectangle frame. To express the images on cleanness, White was selected as the color of Jeogori. Even though the work is expressed as the traditional Hanbok (Korean Traditional clothes) mode, the removal of the collar and the edge of Jeogori and the can-shape of Chima (Korean women``s traditional upper garment), removed with the upper waistband and tie are to express modem routine. Also, for the use in summer and the use for parties, the upper part of Chima was made as the form of a one-piece dress, as if it is the upper garment. The work tries to harmonize traditional meaning with modern meaning, pursuing the satisfactory wearing without inconvenience of traditional clothes in a modem living.

      • Pattern of Tobacco Use and its Correlates among Older Adults in India

Mini, G.K.,Sarma, P.S.,Thankappan, K.R. Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.15

Purpose: We examined tobacco use pattern and its correlates among older adults. Materials and Methods: We used data of 9,852 older adults (${\geq}60$ years) (men 47% mean age 68 years) collected by the United Nations Population Fund on Ageing from seven Indian states. Logistic regression analysis was used to assess the correlates of tobacco use. Results: Current use of any form of tobacco was reported by 27.8% (men 37.9%, women 18.8%); 9.2% reported only smoking tobacco, 16.9% smokeless tobacco only and 1.7% used both forms. Alcohol users (OR:5.20, 95% CI:4.06-6.66), men (OR:2.92, CI :2.71-3.47), those reporting lower income (OR:2.74, CI:2.16-3.46), rural residents (OR 1.34, CI 1.17-1.54) and lower castes (OR:1.29, CI:1.13-1.47) were more likely to use any form of tobacco compared to their counterparts. Conclusions: Tobacco cessation interventions are warranted in this population focusing on alcohol users, men, those from lower income, rural residents and those belonging to a lower caste.

      • Large work function difference driven electron transfer from electrides to single-walled carbon nanotubes.

        Menamparambath, Mini Mol,Park, Jong-Ho,Yoo, Ho-Sung,Patole, Shashikant P,Yoo, Ji-Beom,Kim, Sung Wng,Baik, Seunghyun RSC Pub 2014 Nanoscale Vol.6 No.15

<P>A difference in work function plays a key role in charge transfer between two materials. Inorganic electrides provide a unique opportunity for electron transfer since interstitial anionic electrons result in a very low work function of 2.4-2.6 eV. Here we investigated charge transfer between two different types of electrides, [Ca(2)N](+)e(-) and [Ca(24)Al(28)O(64)](4+)4e(-), and single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) with a work function of 4.73-5.05 eV. [Ca(2)N](+) e(-) with open 2-dimensional electron layers was more effective in donating electrons to SWNTs than closed cage structured [Ca(24)Al(28)O(64)](4+) 4e(-) due to the higher electron concentration (1.3 10(22) cm(-3)) and mobility ( 200 cm(2) V(-1) s(-1) at RT). A non-covalent conjugation enhanced near-infrared fluorescence of SWNTs as high as 52%. The field emission current density of electride-SWNT-silver paste dramatically increased by a factor of 46,000 (14.8 mA cm(-2)) at 2 V μm(-1) (3.5 wt% [Ca(2)N](+) e(-)) with a turn-on voltage of 0.85 V μm(-1).</P>

Reduced haze of transparent conductive films by smaller diameter silver nanowires

        Menamparambath, Mini Mol,Yang, Kihyuk,Kim, Hyeong Hoon,Bae, Oh Seung,Jeong, Mun Seok,Choi, Jae-Young,Baik, Seunghyun IOP 2016 Nanotechnology Vol.27 No.46

<P>Silver nanowires (Ag NWs) have received considerable attention for flexible transparent conductive films (TCFs) since they provide a relatively low sheet resistance at a high transmittance. However, the diffuse light scattering, haze, has been regarded as a hurdle to achieve clarity of films. Here we revisit the Mie scattering theory to calculate the extinction and scattering coefficients of Ag NWs which were employed to estimate haze of TCFs. The theory predicted a decrease in haze with a decrease in Ag NW diameter which was supported by experimental investigations carried out using Ag NWs with 5 different diameters (17.6, 19.9, 22.5, 24.3, and 29.6 nm). Overall, excellent properties of TCFs (haze?=?0.21%–1.8%, transmittance?=?95.33%–98.45%, sheet resistance?=?20.87–81.76 Ω sq−1) were obtained. Ag NWs with a diameter of 17.6 nm provided minimum haze values at equivalent sheet resistances (e.g., haze?=?0.21%, transmittance?=?98.45%, sheet resistance?=?77.36 Ω sq−1) compared with ones with lager diameters and the controls in literatures. This work investigated the interdependence between haze and NW diameter and might provide a design guide for flexible Ag NW TCFs.</P>

Effect of volume fraction on stability analysis of glass fibre reinforced composite plate

        K.M.Mini,Mahadevan Lakshmanan,Lubin Mathew,Girish Kaimal 국제구조공학회 2012 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.12 No.2

This paper deals with an experimental investigation to study the effect of fibre content on the stability of composite plates with various aspect ratios. Epoxy based glass fibre reinforced composite plates with aspect ratio varying from 0.4 to 1 and with volume fractions of 0.36, 0.4, 0.46, 0.49 and 0.55 are used for the investigation. From the study it is observed that for plate with aspect ratio of 0.5 and 0.4 there is no buckling and the plate got crushed at the middle. As the volume fraction increases the buckling load also increases to a limit and then began to reduce with further increase in fibre content. The optimum range of fibre content for maximum stability is found between 0.49 and 0.55. Polynomial expressions are developed for the study of buckling behaviour of composite plates with different volume fractions in terms of load and aspect ratio.
