RNA binding protein QKI contributes to WT1 mRNA and suppresses apoptosis in ST cells

        Xin Liu,Jia Guo,Mengjiao Zhou,Yuwei Yang,Mengdi Liang,Chunyan Bai,Zhihui Zhao,Boxing Sun 한국유전학회 2017 Genes & Genomics Vol.39 No.9

The RNA binding protein quaking (QKI), a key member of the STAR family, as an upstream gene could involve in much process including cell proliferation, apoptosis, differentiation and so on. However, the roles of QKI in germ cell, especially in swine testis (ST) cells, was not clear currently. And apoptosis plays important roles in the growth and development. The purpose of the present study was to clarify the relationship between QKI and apoptosis in ST cells. Firstly, our results showed that pEF1α- QKI and shQKI3 have clear effects on expression levels of QKI. Secondly, we established that QKI directly binds to WT1 3′UTR by binding with QRE-1 (2046–2052 bp, ACT AAC ) only. Furthermore, QKI overexpression significantly increased the expression levels of WT1 and Bcl-2. QKI also has the effect on delaying the degradation of WT1 mRNA. In addition, we verified that QKI had a significantly suppressed apoptosis in ST cells. Finally, pBI-WT1 could make up for shQKI3-induced decrease in WT1, Bcl-2 mRNA levels and suppress apoptosis in ST cells. The results demonstrated that QKI was an important regulatory factor that affects apoptosis by targeting WT1 gene.

Simulation of a neutron imaging detector prototype based on SiPM array readout

        Tang Mengjiao,Zhang Lianjun,Tang Bin,He Gaokui,Huang Chang,Zhao Jiangbin,Liu Yang 한국원자력학회 2023 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.55 No.9

Neutron imaging technology as a means of non-destructive detection of materials is complementary to X-ray imaging. Silicon photomultiplier (SiPM), a new type of optical readout device, has overcome some shortcomings of traditional photomultiplier tube (PMT), such as high-power consumption, large volume, high price, uneven gain response, and inability to work in strong magnetic fields. Its application in the field of neutron detection will be an irresistible general trend. In this paper, a thermal neutron imaging detector based on 6 LiF/ZnS scintillation screen and SiPM array readout was developed. The design of the detector geometry was optimized by geant4 Monte Carlo simulation software. The optimized detector was evaluated with a step wedge sample. The results show that the detector prototype with a 48 mm 48 mm sensitive area can achieve about 38% detection efficiency and 0.26 mm position resolution when using a 300 mm thick 6 LiF/ZnS scintillation screen and a 2 mm thick Bk7 optical guide coupled with SiPM array, and has good neutron imaging capability. It provides effective data support for developing high-performance imaging detectors applied to the China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS).

Outcome of COVID-19 Infection in Patients With Multiple Sclerosis Who Received Disease-Modifying Therapies: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

        Ning Liu,WuHan Yu,Mengjiao Sun,Wenjing Zhang,Dan Zhou,Jing Sun,ManXia Wang 대한신경과학회 2023 Journal of Clinical Neurology Vol.19 No.4

Background and Purpose A systematic review and meta-analysis was performed of the outcome of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) who received disease-modifying therapies (DMTs). Methods Relevant studies published before November 2022 in the PubMed, Cochrane Library, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, and Web of Science databases were retrieved using the following search expression: (“multiple sclerosis” OR “MS”) AND (“DMT” OR “disease modifying therapies”) AND (“COVID-19”). Two authors independently screened the articles and extracted the data. Qualitative analyses and a meta-analysis constituted 22 of the 794 retrieved articles. Differences in the hospitalization and mortality rates were used as the main measures of efficacy, and the meta-analysis was performed using RevMan software. Results 22 clinical trials were selected. The hospitalization rate was lower in the 3,216 patients who received DMTs than in the 774 patients who did not receive any treatment, with a moderate effect size of 0.43 (p<0.00001). The mortality rate was also lower among patients with MS treated using DMTs than in controls (odds ratio [OR]=0.19, 95% confidence interval [CI]=0.13–0.27, p<0.00001). The hospitalization rates for COVID-19 infection in patients with MS treated with anti-CD20 therapy also increased markedly (OR=3.32, 95% CI=2.63–4.20, p<0.00001). However, there was no significant difference between patients with MS who did and did not receive DMTs. Conclusions In summary, the application of DMTs was found to be valuable for patients with MS infected with COVID-19. However, more clinical studies are needed to determine the use of anti-CD20 drugs in patients with MS during the COVID-19 pandemic.

      • 资产价格波动对中国宏观经济风险的影响

        Jishi, Piao,Mengjiao, Liu Korea Consensus Institute(KCI) 2019 Analyses & alternatives Vol.3 No.1

The linkages between asset prices and macroeconomic outcomes are long-standing issue to both economists and monetary authorities. This paper explores the impact of asset prices on output and price in China. It focuses on the impacts of asset prices on the low quantiles of GDP gap and high quantiles of price gaprespectively. The main findings are the following: the influence of stock price gap, stock returns, and money growth on the different quantile of GDP gap and price gap are noticeable different, and there are significant impacts on the left tail of GDP gap distribution and on the right tail of price gap distribution. This implies that the results coming from simple regression will underestimate the economic risk imposed by asset price volatility. Moreover, these results also provide the caveat that one should cautiously distinguish the meaning of asset price gap and asset price growth rate and use them, through their contents are similar in some sense. One implication for monetarypolicy is that authority should interpret the relationship between asset prices and macro-economy in wider perspectives, and make the policy decision taking the impacts of asset prices on the tails of economy.

Differential die-away technology applied to detect special nuclear materials

        Lianjun Zhang,Mengjiao Tang,Chen Zhang,Yulai Zheng,Yong Li,Chao Liu,Qiang Wang,Guobao Wang Korean Nuclear Society 2023 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.55 No.7

Differential die-away analysis (DDAA) technology is a special nuclear material (SNM) active detection analysis technology. Be a nuclear material shielded or not, the technology can reveal the existence of nuclear materials by inducing fission from an external pulsed neutron source. In this paper, a detection model based on DDAA analysis technology was established by geant4 Monte Carlo simulation software, and the optimal sensitivity of the detection system is achieved by optimizing different configurations. After the geant4 simulation and optimization, a prototype was established, and experimental research was carried out. The result shows that the prototype can detect 200 g of 235U in a steel cylinder shield that's of 1.5 cm in inner diameter, 10 cm in thickness and 280 kg in weight.

Study on the Influence of Anchorage Angle on the Anchorage Effect of Soft-Hard Interbedded Toppling Deformed Rock Mass

        Menglong Dong,Faming Zhang,Mengjiao Hu,Chang Liu 대한토목학회 2020 KSCE Journal of Civil Engineering Vol.24 No.8

The toppling deformation of a rock mass is an important form of rock slope failure that often occurs during the excavation process of anti-dip rock slopes. The toppling deformation is very important for controlling slope deformation, determining reasonable anchorage support modes and ensuring the effectiveness of support measures during construction and operation. In this paper, an indoor test was designed and an indoor test model was developed according to engineering practice and the analogy method to study the influence of the anchorage angle and find the most suitable anchoring method for a soft-hard interbedded toppling deformed rock mass. The effect of different anchorage angles on the anchorage effect of toppled deformation slopes was studied by indoor tests. The number of cracks, the number of broken fractures, the average depth of broken fractures, the number of toppling-bending slabs, and the average bending angle of the model were determined through the tests. According to the comprehensive results of the test analysis and analytic hierarchy process, an anchorage angle of 45° is optimal. The results obtained by the test analysis and the analytic hierarchy process were consistent. The test and analysis results have a guiding significance for engineering applications and help to select the best anchorage angle and anchorage mode for actual soft-hard interbedded toppling deformation slopes.

Simultaneous adsorption of Cd2+ and methylene blue from aqueous solution using xanthate-modified baker’s yeast

        Mingyao Song,Zhengyang Duan,Ronggao Qin,Xiaojun Xu,Shuli Liu,Shumin Song,Mengjiao Zhang,Yue Li,Jiemei Shi 한국화학공학회 2019 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.36 No.6

Xanthate-modified baker’s yeast (XMBY) was successfully synthesized by grafting xanthate groups onto the surface of baker’s yeast and was used for the simultaneous adsorption of cadmium (Cd2+) and methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solution. Scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) were used to characterize the synthesized adsorbent. The results indicated that the sulfur groups were successfully introduced onto the surface of the baker’s yeast and participated in the adsorption processes. The kinetic and isotherm data showed good correlations with the pseudo-second-order model and the Langmuir model, respectively. The equilibrium time and the maximum values obtained from the two models were 40 min, 239.8mg/g for Cd2+ and 300 min, 64.45mg/g for MB, respectively. The thermodynamic analysis (G<0, H>0, S>0) demonstrated that the adsorption processes of Cd2+ and MB onto the XMBY were endothermic and spontaneous. In the binary-component solution (Cd2+ and MB), the adsorption capacity for MB was almost unaffected by the presence of Cd2+ and interestingly, the adsorption capacity for Cd2+ increased in the presence of MB. Overall, these results indicated that XMBY could be a promising adsorbent for the treatment of wastewater containing both Cd2+ and MB.
