      • G. E. 레싱의 『현자 나탄』에 나타난 관용과 인류애

        “Ich bin Liebhaber der Theologie, und nicht Theolog”. Dies sagt Lessing uber sich selbst, der aus einem Pfarrhaus stammte und in seinen fruhesten Schriften bereits uber theologische Fragen rasonierte, dann aber dem Studium der Theologie auswich. Trotzdem widmete er einen grossen Teil seines Werkes und die letzten zehn Jahre seines Lebens der Theologie. Ich interpretierte Lessings Nathan der Weise als dramatisch- symbolische Gestaltung der Idee eines universalen freien Menschseins. Nathan der Weise reprasentiert also eine Idee der Menschheitsliebe und die Weltordnung. Wenn man sich beliebt machen will, muss man zuerst andere lieben. Nathan der Weise erschien uber die Schranken von Religion, Nation und Stand hinweg als Andeutung des Zeitalters des Dritten Evangeliums. Lessing betont in Nathan der Weise die Toleranz und die Humanitat als dauernde Aufgabe fur die Vermeidung konfessioneller Streitigkeiten. Auch fur den Weltfrieden ist die friedliche Uberwindung des blutigen Konfliks zwischen den Religionen notwendig.

        1. 「Von Verschreiung der Vernunft von den Kanzeln」 2. 「Unmoglichkeit einer Offenbarung, die alle Menschen auf eine gegrundete Art glauben konnten」 3. 「Durchgang der Israeliten durchs Rote Meer」 4. 「Daβ die bucher des AT nicht geschrieben worden, eine Religion zu offenbaren」 5. 「Uber die Auferstechungsgeschichte」 Hayptpastor Goeze schaltet sich erstmalig am 17. Dezember 1777 in den Streit ein. Lessing antwortet hinfort auf die Angriffe des Hauptpastors Goeze gegen den Ungenannten mit dem Titel: 「Anti-Goeze」. Der Lessing Goeze-Streit wird aber durch herzoglichen Erlass gewaltsam beendet. Am 6. Juli wird Lessing der weitere Druck und Vertrib der Beitrage verboten. Die grundlegenden Differenzen des Goeze-Lessing-Streits gab es wegen des Verstandnises der Religion bzw. der Bibel. Lessing schrieb einmal Folgendes: "Die Wunder, die Christus und seine Junger taten, waren das Geruste, und nicht der Bau. Das Geruste wird abgerissen, sobald der Bau vollendet ist." Goeze dagegen insistierte auf einem am Buchstablichen ausgerichteten Verstandnis: "Auf den Lehren und Taten Christi und der Apostel beruhet also die gesamte christliche Religion. Woher konnen wir nun diese Lehren und Taten wissen ? allein aus den Schriften der Evangelisten und Apostel."

      • Association of Family History with Cancer Recurrence and Survival in Patients with Hepatitis B-Related Hepatocellular Carcinoma (A Propensity Score Matching Analysis)

        Aims: A family history of liver cancer is regarded as a risk factor for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) development. We investigated the association between family history and cancer recurrence and survival in patients with hepatitis B virus (HBV)- related HCC. Methods: Patients who underwent curative resection of HBV-related HCC between 2003 and 2013 from a tertiary hepatobiliary center in China were enrolled in this study. A family history was defined as a self-reported history of primary liver cancer in the first-degree relatives. Propensity score matching (PSM) and multivariable Cox-regression analyses were performed to compare the overall survival (OS) and recurrence-free survival (RFS) between patients with and without a family history of liver cancer. Results: Of 1,112 patients, 183 patients (16.5%) had a family history of liver cancer. A family history was not associated with OS and RFS (P=0.994 and 0.428) in the entire cohort. Using PSM, 179 pairs of patients with and without a family history but with comparable baseline characteristics and operative variables were created. A family history was associated with decreased OS and RFS (P=0.042 and 0.006) in the PSM cohort. On multivariable Cox-regression analyses, a family history was significantly associated with decreased OS (HR: 1.574, 95% CI: 1.171-2.116, P=0.003) and RFS (HR: 1.534, 95% CI: 1.176-2.002, P=0.002) after adjusting for other prognostic factors. Conclusions: A family history of liver cancer was associated with decreased OS and RFS rates after curative resection in patients with HBV-related HCC.

        Prevention of Natural Flowering in Pineapple (Ananas comosus) by Shading and Urea Application

        The year-round production of pineapple (Ananas comosus var. comosus) is often interrupted by natural flowering during winter in Taiwan. A stable and promising technique for preventing natural flowering is required. In this study, we have tested the effect of shading and urea application on the flowering of pineapple. Shading 90% of sun light(s) before mid-November delayed the natural flowering of pineapple and the delay was affected by the plant age. For pineapples planted less than 11 month before mid-November, applying 1% urea plus shading treatment (SN) completely inhibited natural flowering. All the flowering-inhibited plants could be forced to flower by applying calcium carbide. Long-term shading might result in a decreased number of fruitlets within a fruit. However, 6 weeks of recovery before forcing flowering was sufficient for plants to produce fruits with quality equal to that of the control plants. In winter, pineapple plants that were prone to flowering tended to accumulate more leaf starch and increase their C/N ratio. The SN treatment increased the leaf nitrogen concentration and thus effectively maintained a low leaf C/N ratio. Furthermore, flowering-inhibited plants exhibited a constantly low level of leaf starch during the winter and their flowering forced by calcium carbide did not accompany with leaf starch accumulation.

        2D-to-3D Conversion System using Depth Map Enhancement

        This study introduces an image-based 2D-to-3D conversion system that provides significant stereoscopic visual effects for humans. The linear and atmospheric perspective cues that compensate each other are employed to estimate depth information. Rather than retrieving a precise depth value for pixels from the depth cues, a direction angle of the image is estimated and then the depth gradient, in accordance with the direction angle, is integrated with superpixels to obtain the depth map. However, stereoscopic effects of synthesized views obtained from this depth map are limited and dissatisfy viewers. To obtain impressive visual effects, the viewer`s main focus is considered, and thus salient object detection is performed to explore the significance region for visual attention. Then, the depth map is refined by locally modifying the depth values within the significance region. The refinement process not only maintains global depth consistency by correcting non-uniform depth values but also enhances the visual stereoscopic effect. Experimental results show that in subjective evaluation, the subjectively evaluated degree of satisfaction with the proposed method is approximately 7% greater than both existing commercial conversion software and state-of-the-art approach.

        Achieving high proton conductivity for fuel cells based on chemically grafted poly(arylene ether ketone sulfone) and metal–organic frameworks

        The sulfonated poly(arylene ether ketone sulfone) containing –NH2 groups (Am-SPAEKS) and UiO-66-NH2 were respectively used as organic matrix and fillers. Am-S-U hybrid membranes were preparedby chemically anchoring UiO-66-NH2 onto the polymer main chain of Am-SPAEKS by Hinsberg reaction. The UiO-66-NH2 and Am-S-U hybrid membranes were characterized by 1H NMR, FT-IR, PXRD and SEM. The proton conductivities of Am-S-U hybrid membranes (0.072 0.088 S cm1 at 30 C and 0.125 0.168S cm1 at 80 C) were much higher than Am-SPAEKS (0.058 S cm1 at 30 C and 0.090 S cm1 at 80 C). The membranes showed good dimensional stability (swelling ratios < 9.49% at 100 C). Moreover, Am-SU-6% hybrid membrane showed relatively high peak power density (290.97 mW cm2). The results displaythat Am-S-U hybrid membranes have potential as proton exchange membranes.

        Development and Characterization of a Specific Anti-Caveolin-1 Antibody for Caveolin-1 Functional Study in Human, Goat and Mouse

        Caveolin-1 of the caveolin family of proteins regulates mammary gland development and has been shown to play a contradictory role in breast tumor progression. A specific anti-Caveolin-1 antibody will be useful for functional study of Caveolin-1 in different tissues. In this study, we generated a rabbit polyclonal antibody that specifically recognizes the N-terminal amino acids 50-65 of Caveolin-1. This polyclonal antibody specifically reacted with Caveolin-1 extracted from cells of different species, including human epithelial A431 cells, goat primary mammary epithelial cells and mice fibroblast NIH 3T3 cells, by Western blotting. Endogenous Caveolin-1 protein expressing in cells and normal human tissues was detected by this polyclonal antibody using immunocytofluorescent and immunohistochemical staining, respectively. Furthermore, an apparent decrease in Caveolin-1 expression in tumorous breast and colon tissues was detected by this polyclonal antibody. In conclusion, we have identified amino acids 50-65 of Caveolin-1, which contains an epitope that is specific to Caveolin-1 and is conserved in the human, goat and mouse. In future, this anti-Caveolin-1 antibody can be used to examine the progression of breast and colon cancers and to study functions of Caveolin-1 in human, goat and mouse cells.

        ACOX1 destabilizes p73 to suppress intrinsic apoptosis pathway and regulates sensitivity to doxorubicin in lymphoma cells

        Lymphoma is one of the most curable types of cancer. However, drug resistance is the main challenge faced in lymphoma treatment. Peroxisomal acyl-CoA oxidase 1 (ACOX1) is the rate-limiting enzyme in fatty acid β-oxidation. Deregulation of ACOX1 has been linked to peroxisomal disorders and carcinogenesis in the liver. Currently, there is no information about the function of ACOX1 in lymphoma. In this study, we found that upregulation of ACOX1 promoted proliferation in lymphoma cells, while downregulation of ACOX1 inhibited proliferation and induced apoptosis. Additionally, overexpression of ACOX1 increased resistance to doxorubicin, while suppression of ACOX1 expression markedly potentiated doxorubicin-induced apoptosis. Interestingly, downregulation of ACOX1 promoted mitochondrial location of Bad, reduced mitochondrial membrane potential and provoked apoptosis by activating caspase-9 and caspase-3 related apoptotic pathway. Overexpression of ACOX1 alleviated doxorubicin-induced activation of caspase-9 and caspase-3 and decrease of mitochondrial membrane potential. Importantly, downregulation of ACOX1 increased p73, but not p53, expression. p73 expression was critical for apoptosis induction induced by ACOX1 downregulation. Also, overexpression of ACOX1 significantly reduced stability of p73 protein thereby reducing p73 expression. Thus, our study indicated that suppression of ACOX1 could be a novel and effective approach for treatment of lymphoma. [BMB Reports 2019; 52(9): 566-571]
