Boehmite nanoparticles as versatile support for organic–inorganic hybrid materials: Synthesis, functionalization, and applications in eco-friendly catalysis

        Masoud Mohammadi,Minoo Khodamorady,Bahman Tahmasbi,Kiumars Bahrami,Arash Ghorbani-Choghamarani 한국공업화학회 2021 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.97 No.-

Alpha and gamma-alumina are materials used as continuous coatings and also in variousfields such asceramics, catalysis and catalytic support, lubricants, and electronics. Boehmite (AlOOH) is used as the rawmaterial for the preparation of alpha and gamma-alumina phases whose properties such as morphology, specific surface area, and porosity, are strongly dependent on the boehmite structure. In this review, various methods for synthesizing boehmite nanoparticles (NPs); including, sol–gel, sedimentation, sewage, and hydrothermal have been reviewed. The most appropriate method for the production ofvarious forms of boehmite is the hydrothermal method. The shape, morphology, and tissue properties ofthe boehmite NPs depend heavily on the conditions of the process, i.e. the pH of the solution, thetemperature, and the reaction time which will be described in this review. Moreover, the application ofboehmite as the catalyst or catalytic support is studied in this review. Therefore, metallic, acidic, basic, ionic, organic, and organometallic catalysts, which are immobilized on boehmite NPs are discussed inthis review.

Performance of innovative composite buckling-restrained fuse for concentrically braced frames under cyclic loading

        Masoud Mohammadi,Mohammad A. Kafi,Ali Kheyroddin,Hamid R. Ronagh 국제구조공학회 2020 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.36 No.2

Concentrically Braced Frames (CBFs) are commonly used in the construction of steel structures because of their ease of implementation, rigidity, low lateral displacement, and cost-effectiveness. However, the principal disadvantage of this kind of braced frame is the inability to provide deformation capacity (ductility) and buckling of bracing elements before yielding. This paper aims to present a novel Composite Buckling Restrained Fuse (CBRF) to be utilized as a bracing segment in concentrically braced frames that allows higher ductility and removes premature buckling. The proposed CBRF with relatively small dimensions is an enhancement on the Reduced Length Buckling Restrained Braces (RL-BRBs), consists of steel core and additional tensile elements embedded in a concrete encasement. Employing tensile elements in this composite fuse with a new configuration enhances the energy dissipation efficiency and removes the tensile strength limitations that exist in bracing elements that contain RL-BRBs. Here, the optimal length of the CBRF is computed by considering the anticipated strain demand and the low-cyclic fatigue life of the core under standard loading protocol. An experimental program is conducted to explore the seismic behavior of the suggested CBRF compare with an RL-BRB specimen under gradually increased cyclic loading. Moreover, Hysteretic responses of the specimens are evaluated to calculate the design parameters such as energy dissipation potential, strength adjustment factors, and equivalent viscous damping. The findings show that the suggested fuse possess a ductile behavior with high energy absorption and sufficient resistance and a reasonably stable hysteresis response under compression and tension.

Scoring of Tenders in Construction Projects Using Group Method of Data Handling

Masoud Nouri Mehrabani,Emadaldin Mohammadi Golafshani,Mehdi Ravanshadnia 대한토목학회 2020 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.24 No.7

In a competitive construction environment, contractors are often faced with a large number of tenders that compel them to make the best decision in a limited time. In this paper, a decision support system (DSS) based on group method of data handling model (GMDH) was developed for the scoring of tenders (STs). Based on a comprehensive study of the existing literature and experts’ opinions, seven criteria were extracted, namely client, contract, company, consulting engineers, project status/situation, risk, and economic criteria as the inputs of the system. To develop the DSS, the data from 135 tenders were collected from the previous tenders of a private construction contractor. The results illustrate that the proposed model, with a negligible error, is reliable in ST. Moreover, the proposed model specifies the score of new tenders, and decision-makers (DMs) can easily make their decisions in prioritizing and evaluating new tenders. Furthermore, a sensitivity analysis was performed to address the importance of the criteria, and it was concluded that the contract related criterion is the most important principle to the contractor. Eventually, a graphical user interface was designed in a user-friendly environment which allows the decision-makers to visualize the ST.

The Impact of Obesity Surgery on Serum Uric Acid in People With Severe Obesity: A Retrospective Study

        Leila Vafa,Masoud Amini,Hooman Kamran,Ladan Aghakhani,Seyed Vahid Hosseini,Zahra Mohammadi,Neda Haghighat 한국임상영양학회 2023 Clinical Nutrition Research Vol.12 No.1

Studies indicate an association between hyperuricemia (HUA) and metabolic syndrome risk factors. On the other hand, obesity is a major modifiable and independent risk factor for HUA and gout. However, evidence concerning the effects of bariatric surgery on serum uric acid levels is limited and not completely clarified. This retrospective study was carried out with 41 patients who underwent sleeve gastrectomy (n = 26) and Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (n = 15) from September 2019 to October 2021. Anthropometric, clinical, and biochemical data, including uric acid blood urea nitrogen and creatinine fasting blood sugar (FBS), serum triglyceride (TG), and serum cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein (HDL), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), were measured preoperatively and postoperative 3, 6 and 12 months. From baseline to 6 and 12 months, bariatric surgery resulted in a significant decrease in serum uric acid of patients with severe obesity (p < 0.001). The decreases in serum FBS, TG, and cholesterol of patients were significant during 6 and 12 months of follow-up (p < 0.05). However, the HDL increase of patients was not statistically significant in 6 and 12 months (p > 0.05). Besides, although patients’ serum level of LDL decreased significantly during the 6 months of follow-up (p = 0.007), it was not significant after 12 months (p = 0.092). Bariatric surgery significantly reduces serum uric acid levels. Therefore, it may be an effective supplementary therapy for lowering serum uric acid concentrations in morbidly obese patients.

Two-dimensional thermo-elastic analysis of FG-CNTRC cylindrical pressure vessels

        Mohammad Arefi,Masoud Mohammadi,Ali Tabatabaeian,Rossana Dimitri,Francesco Tornabene 국제구조공학회 2018 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.27 No.4

This paper focuses on the application of the first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT) to thermo-elastic static problems of functionally graded carbon nanotubes reinforced composite (FG-CNTRC) cylindrical pressure vessels. A symmetric displacement field is considered as unknown function along the longitudinal direction, whereas a linear distribution is assumed along the thickness direction. The cylindrical pressure vessels are subjected to an inner and outer pressure under a temperature increase. Different patterns of reinforcement are applied as distribution of CNTs. The effective material properties of FG-CNTRC cylindrical pressure vessels are measured based on the rule of mixture, whereas the governing equations of the problem are here derived through the principle of virtual works. A large parametric investigation studies the effect of some significant parameters, such as the pattern and volume fraction of CNTs, on the longitudinal distribution of deformation, strain and stress components, as useful tool for practical engineering applications.

Seismic mitigation of substation cable connected equipment using friction pendulum systems

        Reza Karami Mohammadi,Masoud Mirtaheri,Mojtaba Salkhordeh,Erfan Mosaffa,Golsa Mahdavi,Mohammad Amin Hariri-Ardebili 국제구조공학회 2019 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.72 No.6

Power transmission substations are susceptible to potential damage under seismic excitations. Two of the major seismic failure modes in substation supplies are: the breakage of brittle insulator, and conductor end fittings. This paper presents efficient isolation strategies for seismically strengthening of a two-item set of equipment including capacitive voltage transformer (CVT) adjacent to a Lightning Arrester (LA). Two different strategies are proposed, Case A: implementation of base isolation at the base of the CVT, while the LA is kept fixed-base, and Case B: implementation of base isolation at the base of the LA, while the CVT is kept fixed-base. Both CVT and LA are connected to each other using a cable during the dynamic excitation. The probabilistic seismic behavior is measured by Incremental Dynamic Analysis (IDA), and a series of appropriate damage states are proposed. Finally, the fragility curves are derived for both the systems. It is found that Friction Pendulum System (FPS) isolator has the potential of decreasing flexural stresses caused by intense ground motions. The research has shown that when the FPS is placed under LA, i.e. Case B (as oppose to Case A), the efficiency of the system is improved in terms of reducing the forces and stresses at the bottom of the porcelain. Several parametric studies are also performed to determine the optimum physical properties of the FPS.

      • Free vibration analysis of FG porous joined truncated conical-cylindrical shell reinforced by graphene platelets

        Kiarasi, Faraz,Babaei, Masoud,Mollaei, Somayeh,Mohammadi, Mokhtar,Asemi, Kamran Techno-Press 2021 Advances in nano research Vol.11 No.4

Natural frequency analysis of functionally graded porous joined truncated conical-cylindrical shell reinforced by graphene platelet is investigated in this paper. The structure is consisting of a layered model with five kinds of distribution of graphene platelets in a metallic matrix containing open-cell interior pores. To calculate the effective properties of the porous nanocomposite joined shell, the generalized rule of mixture and the modified Halpin-Tsai equations are employed. Four different porosity distributions are assumed along the shell thickness: two kinds of symmetric functionally graded distributions, non-symmetric functionally graded distributions and uniform distribution of porosity. Graded finite element method (GFEM) based on Rayleigh-Ritz energy formulation has been used to solve 2D- axisymmetric elasticity equations. A parametric study is also conducted to show the effects of different geometric parameters, boundary conditions, weight fraction of graphene platelets, porosity coefficient, distribution of porosity and dispersion pattern of graphene platelets on the natural frequencies and mode shapes of the structure.
