We present the analysis of the binary gravitational microlensing event MOA-2015-BLG-020. The event has a fairly long timescale (similar to 63 days) and thus the light curve deviates significantly from the lensing model that is based on the rectilinear lens-source relative motion. This enables us to measure the microlensing parallax through the annual parallax effect. The microlensing parallax parameters constrained by the ground-based data are confirmed by the Spitzer observations through the satellite parallax method. By additionally measuring the angular Einstein radius from the analysis of the resolved caustic crossing, the physical parameters of the lens are determined. It is found that the binary lens is composed of two dwarf stars with masses M-1= 0.606 +/- 0.028M(circle dot) and M-2= 0.125 +/- 0.006 M-circle dot in the Galactic disk. Assuming that the source star is at the same distance as the bulge red clump stars, we find the lens is at a distance D-L = 2.44 +/- 0.10 kpc. We also provide a summary and short discussion of all of the published microlensing events in which the annual parallax effect is confirmed by other independent observations.

OGLE-2016-BLG-0613LABb: A Microlensing Planet in a Binary System
Han, C.,Udalski, A.,A., Gould,Lee, C.-U.,Shvartzvald, Y.,Zang, W. C.,Mao, S.,Kozłowski, S.,Albrow, M. D.,Chung, S.-J.,Hwang, K.-H.,Jung, Y. K.,Kim, D.,Kim, H.-W.,Ryu, Y.-H.,Shin, I.-G.,Yee, J. C.,Zhu, American Astronomical Society 2017 The Astronomical journal Vol.154 No.6

We present the analysis of OGLE-2016-BLG-0613, for which the lensing light curve appears to be that of a typical binary-lens event with two caustic spikes but with a discontinuous feature on the trough between the spikes. We find that the discontinuous feature was produced by a planetary companion to the binary lens. We find four degenerate triplelens solution classes, each composed of a pair of solutions according to the well-known wide/close planetary degeneracy. One of these solution classes is excluded due to its relatively poor fit. For the remaining three pairs of solutions, the most-likely primary mass is about M-1 similar to 0.7M(circle dot) , while the planet is a super Jupiter. In all cases, the system lies in the Galactic disk, about halfway toward the Galactic bulge. However, in one of these three solution classes, the secondary of the binary system is a low- mass brown dwarf, with relative mass ratios (1: 0.03: 0.003), while in the two others the masses of the binary components are comparable. These two possibilities can be distinguished in about 2024 when the measured lens-source relative proper motion will permit separate resolution of the lens and source.

In this article, we model and discuss determination of optimal minimum guaranteed rate of return, as well as optimal investment and reinsurance strategies of universal life insurance by minimizing both the investment risk and the risk of obtaining guaranteed return, with the constraint of surplus larger than a prescribed constant. We also discuss the application of dynamic programming in finding dynamic solutions to these optimization problems. We analyse the affect of the change of the risk-free interest rate, the age of insured, the cost of reinsurance, and mortality on optimal solutions. Our results indicate that changes in the insured age, in therisk-free interest rate (when risk-free interest rate takes high value), and of mortality will not materially affect the optimal value of minimum guaranteed return rate, investment and reinsurance strategies except for the situation when mortality decreases. However, changing these parameters will affect the sum of the volatilities of investment and minimum guaranteed return rate and the surplus of the insurer. The results also indicate that the optimal and sub-optimal minimum guarantee return rates are very low when risk-free interest rate is very low ((rf)=0.1%).

Approximately 7% of non-small cell lung carcinomas (NSCLCs) harbor oncogenic fusions involving ALK, ROS1, and RET. Although tumors harboring ALK fusions are highly sensitive to crizotinib, emerging preclinical and clinical data demonstrate that patients with ROS1 or RET fusions may also benefit from inhibitors targeting these kinases. Using a transcript-based method, we designed a combination of 3' overexpression and fusion-specific detection strategies to detect ALK, ROS1 and RET fusion transcripts in NSCLC tumors. We validated the assay in 295 NSCLC specimens and showed that the assay is highly sensitive and specific. ALK results were 100% concordant with fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) (n = 52) and 97.8% concordant with IHC (n = 179) [sensitivity, 96.8% (95% CI 91.0%-98.9%); specificity, 98.8% (95% CI 93.6%-99.8%)]. For ROS1 and RET, we also observed 100% concordance with FISH (n = 46 and n = 15, respectively). We identified seven ROS1 and 14 RET fusion-positive tumors and confirmed the fusion status by RT-PCR and FISH. One RET fusion involved a novel partner, cutlike homeobox 1 gene (CUX1), yielding an in-frame CUX1-RET fusion. ROS1 and RET fusions were significantly enriched in tumors without KRAS/EGFR/ALK alterations. ALK/ROS1/RET/EGFR/KRAS alterations were mutually exclusive. As a single-tube assay, this test shows promise as a more practical and cost-effective screening modality for detecting rare but targetable fusions in NSCLC.

A 2 MW-3.7 GHz lower hybrid current drive (LHCD) system is under development for physicsexperiments on the HL-2A device. The RF Power is generated by four TH2103A klystron amplifiersand propagates in the TE10 mode through WR284 waveguides. The transmission lines with a lengthof 20 m to 30 m are pressurized with 2 bars of nitrogen to decrease the possibility of arcing. Thelauncher, based on the passive-active multi-junction (PAM) concept, has been developed and iscurrently being realized. It was designed for a power spectrum peaked at Nk = 2.75 with goodcoupling properties over a wide range of plasma parameters. The four klystrons are fed by ahigh-voltage power supply (HVPS) based on the pulse step modulation (PSM) concept with a fastswitch-off time of less than ten μs. This system is expected to be in operation within 1 years and willexplore many international thermonuclear experimental reactor (ITER) related LH experiments inthe following years.

Radix ranunculus temate saponins (RRTS), one of the main constituents extracted from the popular traditional Chinese medicine Radix Ranunculi ternati, has been reported to have various biological activities including anti-cancer effect. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of RRTS on the cell proliferation and apoptosis in human gastric adenocarcinoma SGC-7901 cells. The data showed that exposure to RRTS for 24 h produced cytotoxic effects on SGC- 7901 cells in a dose-dependent manner (with an IC50 value of 21.22±2.76 μg/mL), which was accompanied by apoptosis induction (from 2.18±0.89% (control) to 63.72±13.16% (100 μg/mL)). Both the extrinsic or death receptor pathway and the intrinsic or mitochondrial pathway were involved in RRTS-induced apoptosis in SGC-7901 cells. Furthermore, apoptotic signaling induced by RRTS was amplified by cross-link between the two pathways via the signal-integrating protein Bid. In conclusion, our findings contribute to better understanding the molecular mechanism of RRTS’ effect on gastric cancer cells and form the basis of the therapeutic development of RRTS in treating gastric cancer in the future.

Spirulina represents a blue-green alga that is widely produced and commercialized as a dietary supplement formodulating immune functions, as well as ameliorating a variety of diseases. We have previously shown that the in vitrocul-ture of Spirulinawith human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) modulated the production of cytokines. In the pre-sent study, we evaluated the impact of a Spirulina-based dietary supplement (Earthrise Nutritionals, Inc., Irvine, CA) on pa-tients with allergic rhinitis by assessing the production of cytokines [interleukin (IL)-4, interferon (IFN)-., and IL-2] criticalin regulating immunoglobulin E-mediated allergy. In a randomized double-blinded crossover study versus placebo, allergicindividuals were fed daily with either placebo or Spirulina,at 1,000 mg or 2,000 mg, for 12 weeks. PBMCs isolated beforeand after the Spirulinafeeding were stimulated with phytohemagglutinin (PHA) prior to determining the levels of cytokinefrom cell culture supernatants. Although Spirulinaseemed to be ineffective at modulating the secretion of Th1 cytokines (IFN-. and IL-2), we discovered that Spirulina, administered at 2,000 mg/day, significantly reduced IL-4 levels by 32% fromPHA-stimulated cells. These results indicate that Spirulinacan modulate the Th profile in patients with allergic rhinitis bysuppressing the differentiation of Th2 cells mediated, in part, by inhibiting the production of IL-4. To our knowledge, this isthe first human feeding study that demonstrates the protective effects of Spirulinatowards allergic rhinitis.
