        Nonlinear aerostatic stability analysis of Hutong cable-stayed rail-cum-road bridge

        To investigate the nonlinear aerostatic stability of the Hutong cable-stayed rail-cum-road bridge with ultra-kilometer main span, a FEM bridge model is established. The tri-component wind loads and geometric nonlinearity are taken into consideration and discussed for the influence of nonlinear parameters and factors on bridge resistant capacity of aerostatic instability. The results show that the effect of initial wind attack-angle is significant for the aerostatic stability analysis of the bridge. The geometric nonlinearities of the bridge are of considerable importance in the analysis, especially the effect of cable sag. The instable mechanism of the Hutong Bridge with a steel truss girder is the spatial combination of vertical bending and torsion with large lateral bending displacement. The design wind velocity is much lower than the static instability wind velocity, and the structural aerostatic resistance capacity can meet the requirement.

        OsCML4 improves drought tolerance through scavenging of reactive oxygen species in rice

        Calmodulin-like (CML) genes function in regulating plant responses to different abiotic stresses, such as high salt and drought. Using japonica type rice seedlings (‘Nipponbare’), we induced the expression of OsCML4 (Accession No. NM_001057768), which encodes a rice CML protein. Under drought conditions, transgenic plants over-expressing that gene exhibited obviously improved growth performance and higher survival rates than the wild type (WT). Activity by reactive oxygen species (ROS)- scavenging enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT), as well as proline concentrations, were significantly increased in transgenic plants. Expression by ROS scavenging-related genes APXI and Cat-B and the stress-related gene OsP5CS1 was also enhanced in the transgenics under drought conditions. However, the sensitivity to abscisic acid (ABA) was similar between over-expressing and WT plants. These results suggest that OsCML4 confers drought tolerance partially through ROS-scavenging and also by inducing other stress-related genes in an ABAindependent manner.

        Rotationally symmetric solutions of the prescribed higher mean curvature spacelike equations in Minkowski spacetime

        In this paper we consider the existence of rotationally symmetric entire solutions for the prescribed higher mean curvature spacelike equations in Minkowski spacetime. As a first step, we study the associated 0-Dirichlet problems on a ball, and then we prove that all possible solutions can be extended to $+\infty$. The proof of our main results are based upon the topological degree methods and the standard prolongability theorem of ordinary differential equations.

        Associations of HSP90AA2 gene polymorphisms with disease susceptibility, glucocorticoids efficacy and health-related quality of life in Chinese systemic lupus erythematosus patients

        Although the current glucocorticoids (GCs) treatment for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is effective to a certain extent, the difference in therapeutic effect between patients is still a widespread problem. Some patients can have repeated attacks that greatly diminish their quality of life. This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between HSP90AA2 polymorphisms and disease susceptibility, GCs efficacy and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in Chinese SLE patients. A case–control study was performed in 470 SLE patients and 470 normal controls. Then, 444 patients in the case group were followed up for 12 weeks to observe efficacy of GCs and improvement of HRQoL. Two single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of HSP90AA2 were selected for genotyping: rs1826330 and rs6484340. HRQoL was assessed using the SF-36 questionnaire. The minor T allele of rs1826330 and the TT haplotype formed by rs1826330 and rs6484340 showed associations with decreased SLE risk (T allele: PBH = 0.022; TT haplotype: PBH = 0.033). A significant association between rs6484340 and improvement of HRQoL was revealed in the follow-up study. Five subscales of SF-36 were appeared to be influenced by rs6484340: total score of SF-36 (additive model: PBH = 0.026), physical function (additive model: PBH = 0.026), rolephysical (recessive model: PBH = 0.041), mental health (dominant model: PBH = 0.047), and physical component summary (additive model: PBH = 0.026). No statistical significance was found between HSP90AA2 gene polymorphisms and GCs efficacy. These results revealed a genetic association between HSP90AA2 and SLE. Remarkably, HSP90AA2 has an impact on the improvement of HRQoL in Chinese population with SLE.

        Review : Epidemiology of Hepatocellular Carcinoma in the Asia-Pacific Region

        Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the predominant primary liver cancer in many countries and is the third most common cause of cancer-related death in the Asia-Pacific region. The incidence of HCC is higher in men and in those over 40 years old. In the Asia-Pacific region, chronic hepatitis B virus and hepatitis C virus infections are the main etiological agents; in particular, chronic hepatitis B infection (CHB) is still the major cause in all Asia-Pacific countries except for Japan. Over the past two decades, the incidence of HCC has remained stable in countries in the region except for Singapore and Hong Kong, where the incidence for both sexes is currently decreasing. Chronic hepatitis C infection (CHC) is an important cause of HCC in Japan, representing 70% of HCCs. Over the past several decades, the prevalence of CHC has been increasing in many Asia-Pacific countries, including Australia, New Zealand, and India. Despite advancements in treatment, HCC is still an important health problem because of the associated substantial mortality. An effective surveillance program could offer early diagnosis and hence better treatment options. Antiviral treatment for both CHB and CHC is effective in reducing the incidence of HCC.         전통문화자원을 활용한 브랜드 및 문화상품 개발 제안 - 기세리 선비문화허브 네트워크 활성화사업을 중심으로 -

        최근 정부는 산재한 지역자원과 관련 사업의 통합적 연계 계획을 구성하고, 자연 전통경관의 보존 및 마을의 정체성을 강화하는 등 지역의 문화적 자원을 활용하고자 한다. 이에 본 연구는 우리나라의 유교적 문화자원을 활용하는 방안을 검토하였으며, 그중 ‘선비’의 생활양식과 정신 등을 현대적 재해석을 통해 자원으로써 활용하고자 하였다. ‘대구광역시 달성군 선비문화허브 네트워크 활성화사업’을 사례로 공간적 범위는 달성군 옥포면 기세리 일대다. 연구 범위는 브랜드 및 문화상품 개발로 한정하였으며, 세부적으로는 네이밍 개발 과정, 슬로건 디자인, 심벌마크, 로고타입, 시그니처, 색상활용 등의 사례를 분석하였다. 지역의 전통문화자원의 브랜딩과 문화상품 사례를 조사·분석하고 기세리 선비문화허브의 환경조사 및 브랜드 도출과정, SWOT 분석 등을 통해 전통문화자원을 활용한 문화상품 디자인의 방향성을 제시한다. 본 연구는 유교적 문화자원 즉, 전통문화자원을 활용하여 다양한 디자인적 활용가능성을 제시하였다는 점에서 의의를 갖는다. 이를 통해 거주민의 지역에 대한 자긍심을 고취하여 지역 경쟁력을 강화하며, 지역 자산에 대한 자긍심도 고취될 수 있다. 또한, 문화상품의 판매를 통해 수익을 창출하여 주민이 능동적 경제활동을 통해 관광을 활성화하는 효과를 볼 수 있다. Recently, the government wants to utilize the cultural resources of the region, including forming an integrated linkage plan between scattered local resources and related projects, and strengthening the preservation of natural traditional scenery and the identity of the village. Thus, this study examined the use of Confucian cultural resources in Korea, and wanted to utilize the lifestyle and spirit of "Senbi" as resources through modern reinterpretation. As an example of 'Project to Revitalize Seonbi Culture Hub Network in Dalseong-gun, Daegu City', the spatial scope is located in Gise-ri, Okpo-myeon, Dalseong-gun. The scope of research was limited to the development of brand and culture and tourism products, and the cases of naming development process, slogan design, symbol mark, logo type, signature, color utilization were analyzed in detail. It will investigate and analyze the branding of traditional cultural resources and the examples of cultural products in the region, and present the direction of cultural product design utilizing traditional cultural resources through the environmental investigation and brand-drawing process of Giusei Sunbi Culture Hub, and SWOT analysis. This study is meaningful in that it presented various design feasibility using Confucian cultural resources, i.e. traditional cultural This can enhance local competitiveness by encouraging residents' sense of self-esteem in their regions, and also boost their sense of self-esteem in their local assets. In addition, by generating profits through the sale of cultural and tourism products, residents can see the effect of boosting tourism through active economic activities.

      • Tumor-Suppression Mechanisms of Protein Tyrosine Phosphatase O and Clinical Applications

        Tyrosine phosphorylation plays an important role in regulating human physiological and pathological processes. Functional stabilization of tyrosine phosphorylation largely contributes to the balanced, coordinated regulation of protein tyrosine kinases (PTKs) and protein tyrosine phosphatases (PTPs). Research has revealed PTPs play an important suppressive role in carcinogenesis and progression by reversing oncoprotein functions. Receptor-type protein tyrosine phosphatase O (PTPRO) as one member of the PTPs family has also been identified to have some roles in tumor development. Some reports have shown PTPRO over-expression in tumors can not only inhibit the frequency of tumor cell division and induce tumor cell death, but also suppress migration. However, the tumor-suppression mechanisms are very complex and understanding is incomplete, which in some degree blocks the further development of PTPRO. Hence, in order to resolve this problem, we here have summarized research findings to draw meaningful conclusions. We found tumor-suppression mechanisms of PTPRO to be diverse, such as controlling G0/G1 of the tumor cell proliferation cycle, inhibiting substrate phosphorylation, down-regulating transcription activators and other activities. In clinical anticancer efforts, expression level of PTPRO in tumors can not only serve as a biomarker to monitor the prognosis of patients, but act as an epigenetic biomarker for noninvasive diagnosis. In addition, the re-activation of PTPRO in tumor tissues, not only can induce tumor volume reduction, but also enhance the susceptibility to chemotherapy drugs. So, we can propose that these research findings of PTPRO will not only support new study ideas and directions for other tumor-suppressors, importantly, but also supply a theoretical basis for researching new molecular targeting agents in the future.

        Rice Gene OsDSR-1 Promotes Lateral Root Development in Arabidopsis Under High-Potassium Conditions

        Rice gene Oryza sativa Drought Stress Response-1 (OsDSR-1) was one of the genes identified to be responsive to drought stress in the panicle of rice at booting and heading stages by both microarray and quantitative real-time PCR analyses. OsDSR-1 encodes a putative calcium-binding protein, and its overexpression in Arabidopsis rendered transgenic plants to produce much shorter lateral roots (LRs) than wild-type (WT) plants in the medium supplemented with abscisic acid (ABA), suggesting that OsDSR-1 may act as a positive regulator during the process of ABA inhibition of LR development. No significant difference was observed in the total LR length between WT and transgenic plants in the media with the increase of only osmotic stress caused by NaCl, LiCl, and mannitol, while transgenic Arabidopsis seedlings appeared to produce larger root systems with longer total LR lengths under highpotassium conditions than WT seedlings. Further analysis showed that external Ca^2+ was required for the production of larger root systems, indicating that the promotion by OsDSR-1 of the LR development of transgenic Arabidopsis seemed to occur in a Ca^2+ -dependent manner under high-potassium conditions. We propose that OsDSR-1 may function as a calcium sensor of the signal transduction pathway controlling the LR development under high-potassium conditions.
