The influenza virus is an important respiratory risk affecting humans, and effective treatments are needed. Some oriental medicines are currently applied for treatment of common colds as well as influenza infection. Previous studies have reported that the therapeutic properties of MA-128 are effective for treatment of psoriasis antiasthmatic and atopic dermatitis. In this study, we investigated the therapeutic properties of the novel herbal medicine, MA-128, for treatment of influenza virus infection by oral administration. MA-128 is an active natural biological compound from herbal-marine origin. The results showed that oral administration of MA-128 in mice could confer a survival benefit against Type A influenza virus infection. Daily oral administration of MA- 128 resulted in delayed death in infected mice for three days against mouse adapted H3N2 (A/Philippines/2/82). However, it protected more than 60% of mice from lethal infection of 2009 pandemic H1N1 (A/Korea/CJ01/2009) influenza virus. In addition, lung viral titers were significantly reduced at seven days post infection (~100 times) compared with mock-treated mice and viruses were cleared at 9 dpi only in the MA-128 treated groups. This study demonstrated the potential of the novel herbal medicine, MA-128, as an herbal remedy against influenza A viruses.
Proliferation Effect of Conditioned Medium Produced by Lymph Node Stromal Cells
Lee, Sang-Han,Moon, Sung-Hoon,Ha, Sang-Chul,Ma, Jin-Yeul,Kim, Min-Sook,Lee, Jin-Man,Kwon, O-Yu Korean Society of Life Science 2002 Journal of Life Science Vol.12 No.1
CS21 lymphoma cells that preferentially metastasize to lymph nodes after s.c. inoculation into BALB/c mice were grown in vitro in the presence of CA12 stromal cells isolated from lymph nodes. To obtain fundamental data on identification and characterization of the soluble factor(s) produced by CA12 stromal cells, we investigated the biological profile of the conditioned medium produced by CAl2 stromal cells. CAl2 conditioned medium has no affinity with Con A. CAl2 conditioned medium is associated with the proliferation of splenic T- and thymic T-cells with-out adding mitogen, although the conditioned medium cannot induce the differentiation of thymocytes. Additionally, we showed that H-7, not HA-1004 inhibits CS21 cell proliferation. These results suggest that CAl2 conditioned medium has a specific soluble factor(s) produced by lymph node stromal cells.

The Military Air base Law has designated imaginary surface, restricting the height of structure above the imaginary surface. The purpose of establishment of imaginary surface is to promote safety of aircraft operation. However, given the fact that the land is limited, the Military Airbase Law does not set up outer horizontal surface such that the reduced imaginary surface would undermin the safety of aircraft operations with respect to IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) procedures. The fact that some areas which IFR procedures require are not designated as imaginary surface results in no imposition of height restriction on such area. With regard to aviation safety, this article deals with issue of height restriction on area which is beyond the imaginary surface area. This article also examines the establishment of the imaginary surface in the Military Airbase Law, and conducts case study of imaginary surface systems in other country. Based upon this discussion, the current problems posed in the Military Airbase Law will be discussed. To resolve these problems, it is necessary to establish height restriction zone beyond the current imaginary surface area. The provisions of ICAO, FAA and other counties in relation with this issue are referred as well. As a result, many different proposals are suggested, and it is concluded as the most effective proposal that, in certain zone beyond the imaginary surface area, an aeronautic study should be required for the purpose of ensuring aviation safety before a permit of construction higher than prescribed height is issued.
