The author reviewed pharmacotherapy for obsessive compulsive disorder. Serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SRIs) and The tricyclic antidepressant clomipramine are the first line therapies for patients with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), with the side-effect profile of selective SRIs (SSRIs) being more favorable than clomipramine. As many as 40% to 60% of patients with OCD may not response to adequate trials of SRIs. Not all patients tolerate SSRIs, and delay in full therapeutic responses often occur. Thus, other pharmacological approaches to treating patients with OCD have been investigated. Augmentation and monotherapy have been explored with serotonergic enhancers, dopamine and 5-HT antagonists , enhancers of second -messenger systems, and GABAergic agents with varying efficacy.
만성 정신분열증 환자에 있어 Clozapine 투여에 의한 비정형적 Prolactin반응

Objects : Typical antipsychotic drugs robustily increase prolactin both in rodents and in man. Unlike in rodents, Meltzer(1989) found that acutely administered clozapine did not increases serum prolactin levels in schizophrenia and his preliminary data suggested that prolactin levels might even be reduced during clozapine treatment. Methods : We investigated the serum prolactin levels in chronic schizophrenics, who were assigned to clozapine(N=28) or haloperidol(N=20) for eight weeks. Blood samples were obtained biweekly during the study period, and serum prolactin concentrations were measured by standard double-antibody radioimmunoassay. Results : The serum prolactin levels were not changed in the schizophrenic patients to whom clozapine had been administrated, otherwise marked increases in serum prolactin level were observed in the haloperidol treatment group. Conclusion : Our results suggest that clozapine differs from typical antipsychotics(e.g., haloperidol) in its failure to produce serum prolactin elevation in schizophrenic patients.

The ferrnetnation characteristics and microbial changes during the storage of salted Chinese cabbage cultivars were investigated. When 10 Chinese cabbage cultivars produced in fall were salted up to 3 and stored at 0%, their pHs were lowered with different modes. and total acid contents were increased with the same way as pH. Results on microbial counts was the best in "noranmat'.

The serine/threonine kinase Akt has been shown to play a role of multiple cellular signaling pathways and act as a transducer of many functions initiated by growth factor receptors that activate phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K). It has been reported that phosphorylated Akt activates eNDS resulting in the production of NO and that NO stimulates soluble guanylate cyclase (sGC), which results in accumulation of cGMP and subsequent activation of the protein kinase G (PKG). It has been also reported that PKG activates PI3K/Akt signaling. Therefore, it is possible that PI3K, Akt, eNOS, sGC, and PKG form a loop to exert enhanced and sustained activation of Akt. However, the existence of this loop in eNOS-expressing cells, such as endothelial cells or astrocytes, has not been reported. Thus, we examined a possibility that Akt phosphorylation might be enhanced via eNOS/sGC/PKG/PI3K pathway in astrocytes in vivo and in vitro. Phosphorylation of Akt was detected in astrocytes after KA treatment and was maintained up to 72 h in mouse hippocampus. 2 weeks after KA treatment, astrocytic Akt phosphorylation was normalized to control. The inhibition of eNOS, sGC, and PKG significantly decreased Akt and eNDS phosphorylation induced by KA in astrocytes. In contrast, the decreased phosphorylation of Akt and eNDS by eNDS inhibition was significantly reversed with PKG activation. The above findings in mouse hippocampus were also observed in primary astrocytes. These data suggest that Akt/eNOS/sGC/PKG/PI3K pathway may constitute a loop, resulting in enhanced and sustained Akt activation in astrocytes.
Bioinformatics Resources of the Korean Bioinformation Center (KOBIC)
Lee, Byung-Wook,Chu, In-Sun,Kim, Nam-Shin,Lee, Jin-Hyuk,Kim, Seon-Yong,Kim, Wan-Kyu,Lee, Sang-Hyuk Korea Genome Organization 2010 Genomics & informatics Vol.8 No.4
The Korean Bioinformation Center (KOBIC) is a national bioinformatics research center in Korea. We developed many bioinformatics algorithms and applications to facilitate the biological interpretation of OMICS data. Here we present an introduction to major bioinformatics resources of databases and tools developed at KOBIC. These resources are classified into three main fields: genome, proteome, and literature. In the genomic resources, we constructed several pipelines for next generation sequencing (NGS) data processing and developed analysis algorithms and web-based database servers including miRGator, ESTpass, and CleanEST. We also built integrated databases and servers for microarray expression data such as MDCDP. As for the proteome data, VnD database, WDAC, Localizome, and CHARMM_HM web servers are available for various purposes. We constructed IntoPub server and Patome database in the literature field. We continue constructing and maintaining the bioinformatics infrastructure and developing algorithms.
