최근 들어 멀티미디어 처리 기술의 급속한 발전과 더불어 멀티미디어 데이타의 저장, 관리에 핵심적인 역할을 하는 멀티미디어 DBMS의 개발에 관심이 집중되고 있다. 본 논문은 프로토타입 멀티미디어 DBMS인 ALPHA 시스템의 설계 및 구현에 대해 기술한다. 이 ALPHA 시스템은 멀티미디어 데이타의 특성을 고려하여 설계되었고, 시각적인 사용자 인터페이스, 객체 지향 기법을 확장한 객체 관리 기능, 멀티미디어 저장객체의 관리 기능 등을 제공한다. Recently, the rapid development of multimedia processing technology has caused the increasing demand for multimedia database management systems that can store and manage multimedia data. This paper describes the design and implementation of the ALPHA system, a prototype multimedia DBMS which is designed in consideration of the characteristics of multimedia data The system supports visual user interface, object manager based on the extended ob ject-oriented paradigm, and multimedia storage object manager.
A 512 Cycles/MB, Enhanced Fast Motion Estimation Strategy for 1080p High Profile H.264/AVC

We present an enhanced fast motion estimation algorithm for Full HD (1080p) High Profile H.264/AVC. Most of processing cycles are occupied with motion estimation and use external memory access to fetch samples, which degrades the performance of the encoder. A novel approach to fast motion estimation with that uses shared multi-bank memory can solve these problems. The proposed enhanced hierarchical search algorithm is suitable for fast motion vector (MV) searches for high-quality resolution images. The proposed algorithm not only achieves an 87.5% reduction of computational complexity compared with the full search algorithm in the JM reference software, but also sustains the video quality without any conspicuous PSNR loss.
A study on Efficient Technique for Storytelling of Children’s Edutainment TV Animation

The main targets of the edutainment market in Korea area preschool and lower elementary school children. Edutainment content for preschoolers has had a balanced growth, but Edutainment content for lower elementary school students is focused on comic books and online. The majority of TV content has violent expressions and stories, and if we think about a ripple effect on TV, excellent edutainment content for lower elementary children is urgently needed. And storytelling of edutainment TV animation should fill up the constituent of edutainment, animation, and TV series. To make a long run story (at least 6 months), a system that could efficiently combine educational constituent with entertainment is needed. On this study, we would like to present an more efficient storytelling system by inquiring into the requirements of edutainment content and introducing RPG elements in animation storytelling.
Adaptability of Skeletal Muscle to Resistance Training

Skeletal muscle comprises 40-45% of the mass of the body of a health individual (Rooyacker et al., 1997). The functional demands placed upon skeletal musele vary greatly throughout the day, from repetitive tasks against very low resistance, to explosive powerful contraction against very high resistance. Training for athletic competition takes advantage of the muscle's ability to adapt to the functional demands placed upon it over weeks and years of training. Critical to the adaptation produced is the manner in which the muscle is trained, whether it be repeated contractions against relative light loads muscle mass. Due to the fact that many of the most popular sports in the world, such as soccer, basketball, baseball, and football require intermittent bursts of very powerful movements, there is a great interest in increasing muscle mass. Maximal force is directly cross sectional area of muscle and maximal power is derived from the maximal force that can be developed per unit of time, usually in terms of milliseconds. Over the years many researchers have attempted to develop models to better understand how the alterations of mechanical load and hormonal milieu might optimize increases in muscle mass and concomitant increases in power. This article will primarily focus on animal models that have been utilized to increase muscle mass. Included in this review will be models that elevated mechanical load upon skeletal muscle, either chronically or intermittently, as well as the influence of IGF-1, a hormone that has both a myogenic and mitogenic efect upon skeletal muscle.
