α-Fetoprotein 측정을 위한 chemiluminoimmunometric assay는 AFP내의 서로다른 위치에 존재하는 항원 결정기를 인지하는 두개의 단일클론 항체를 이용한 분석방법으로서 polystyrene tube에 두가지의 항체중 한가지를 coating 시키고 그위에 unknown 또는 known AFP을 반응시킨후 추적물질로서 화학발광체를 합성한 또 다른 항체를 반응시켜 최종 detection은 Luminometer(LKB, 1250)를 이용 측정하였다. 그 결과 감도가 상당히 좋은 표준곡선을 얻을 수 있었으며 기존의 방법(Radioimmunometric assay)과 비교해 볼때 더 나은 detection limit를 얻을 수 있었다. 이러한 신속하고도 정확한 방법을 임상진단에 응용하면 상당한 잇점이 있으리라 사료된다.

Pneumatosis intestinalis (PI) is an uncommon disorder characterized by an accumulation of gas in the bowel wall, and has been associated with a variety of disorders and procedures. We describe a 35-year-old man who undertook hematopoietic stem cell transplantation due to myelodysplastic syndrome. An abdominal X-ray demonstrated extensive PI with pneumoperitoneum mimicking hollow organ perforation. However, the patient had no abdominal symptoms and there was no evidence of peritoneal inflammation. After two weeks of conservative management, including bowel rest and antibiotics, his pneumoperitoneum resolved spontaneously without any complications. Of the many factors that affect the gastrointestinal tract mucosal integrity, intramural pressure, and bacterial flora-produced intraluminal gas interact to produce PI. If the condition is accompanied by bowel ischemia, portomesenteric venous gas, metabolic acidosis, and abdominal sepsis, or if PI is severe in extent immediate surgical intervention is indicated. The described case supports that a mechanical rather than a bacterial etiology underlies the pathogenesis of PI.
Study of various coplanar gaps discharges in ac plasma display panel

To achieve a high luminous efficacy in a plasma display panel, the display characteristics, including the luminance, discharge current, and luminous efficacy, were investigated with various coplanar gaps. The temporal behavior of the infrared emission from 80-, 150-, 200-, and 300-μm coplanar gap discharges was also studied. The luminance and luminous efficacy increased as the coplanar gap increased until 200 μm. However, when the coplanar gap was 300 μm with a fixed barrier rib height of 150 μm, the luminous and luminous efficacy suddenly decreased. This phenomenon can be explained by the results of the infrared emission observation, as the discharge shape of the 300-μm coplanar gap became narrow when the height of barrier rib was fixed at 150 μm. The luminous efficacy of the 200-μm coplanar gap discharge was about 3.2 lm/W (green cells) when an Ne+4%Xe gas mixture was used as the discharge gas in the alternating current plasma display panel.
Saccharomyces cerevisiae에서 발현된 유전자 재조합 인 성장 호르몬 생리활성도 측정

The gene for recombinant human growth hormone (rHGH) was constructed and then overexpressed in yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The protein was purified by successive chromatography processes and purity was more than 98.5% as assessed by SDS-PAGE. The reverse-phase HPLC pattern of the purified rHGH showed that the protein eluted as a single entity from the column, regradless of the mobile phases used. The secondary structure of rHGH determined by circular dichroism spectrophotometer indicated that the -helical content represented about 55% of total protein. The weight gain in hypophysectomized rats, observed during 15 days, as a result of daily injections (125 mIU) of natural human growth hormone standard. The injection of a larger amount of rHGH (200 g) increased weight-gain even more substantially. The efficacy of rHGH determined by radioreceptor assay was slightly better than that of natural human growth hormone standard. (J Kor Soc Endocrinol 5:198~205, 1990)
