The spot weldability of metal joints between SD35 and SD30A steel was investigated. This study was aimed to determine the spot welding parameters (i.e. welding current and time) for reinforcement bar joint and to evaluate the weldability, mechanical strength, hardness and microstructure. The results indicated that shear strength and elongation of the welding joints at 12.5kA and 1000ms were 26.7kgf/mm2 and 22%, respectively. And fracture distribution of them by using shear and tensile test showed 100% necking mode and 100% ductile mode, respectively.
THD Analysis of Modular Multi-level Converter with BESS

This paper proposes the selection of modulation strategies Phase shift pulse width modulation (PS-PWM) Level shift pulse width modulation (LS-PWM) through Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) analysis of Modular Multi-level Converter (MMC) with Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) system. The MMC-BESS system is delta-connected to the grid through a transformer in parallel, and the MMCBESS Submodule (SM) is an existing MMC full-bridge SM with a DC/DC converter and a battery. It is a STATCOM structure with a battery that can act as an ESS. The THD of the modulation strategies PS-PWM and LS-PWM were compared by selecting different MMC SM levels and switching frequencies. The THD analysis was performed using MATLAB, and the MMC-BESS simulation was verified using PSCAD.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Ni-based quaternary disk catalysts were manufactured for low-temperature CO<SUB>2</SUB> methanation reactions, and the reaction activity was examined with respect to the thermal treatment conditions. By applying varying reduction and combustion treatments, the same catalysts were compared, and the Ni oxidation conditions and physical features were confirmed through X-Ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and energy dispersive X-ray analyses. In addition, oxygen adsorption/desorption changes were measured by temperature-programmed reduction after pre-treating with oxygen and hydrogen. The reduction treatment catalyst showed a conversion of 20% at 280 °C, and the 70% calcined catalyst did not form a NiO crystalloid. The activation of the catalyst increased because of NiO movement on the catalyst surface, which enabled easy transformation to metallic Ni. The prepared catalyst is a highly reactive, yet stable, candidate for practical catalytic CO<SUB>2</SUB> methanation.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> New nickel alloy catalytic disks were successfully fabricated and tested. </LI> <LI> The catalytic performance was affected by the temperature and oxygen concentration. </LI> <LI> The prepared catalyst exhibited remarkable reactivity, yet prevented sintering. </LI> <LI> The highest conversion was observed under thermal treatment with 50% oxygen. </LI> <LI> The optimum CO<SUB>2</SUB> methanation (77%) was achieved at 280 °C. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

기억력과 학습력의 개선은 두뇌의 기능적 향상 뿐 아니라, 신경의 보호차원에서도 그 의학적 가치가 크다. 스트레스에 의한 뇌기능 저하등과 같은 다양한 원인으로 인하여 기억력 감퇴가 일어날 수 있다. 또한 최근 기억력 감퇴 손상 억제 기전의 연구는 현저한 기능감소를 보이고 있는 콜린성 신경계의 기능을 보충해 주는데 초점이 맞추어져 있다. 이에 근거하여 본 연구에서는 가잠(Bombyx mori)으로부터 추출한 BF-7이 실제로 생체 내에서 감퇴된 기억력을 개선시켜줄 수 있는지를 검색하기 위하여 무스카리닉(muscarinic) 수용체의 길항제인 스코폴라민(scopolamine)을 투여하여 만든 기억력감퇴 세포와 동물모델을 사용하여 실험을 수행하였다. BF-7을 전처치하고 스코폴라민을 투여하였을 때, 세포생존율, passive avoidance test와 water maze test를 실시한 결과, BF-7이 매우 효과적으로 기억력을 개선시켜주고 있음이 나타났다. 이와 같은 결과는 이물질이 실제로 BBB (blood brain barrier)를 통과하여 뇌에서 시냅스의 콜린성 신경계의 기능을 높여주었으며, 두뇌기능 개선효과에 중요한 역할을 한다는 것을 시사한다. 또한 인지기능장애 정도를 평가할 수 있는 MMSE-K 임상검사법을 시행한 결과, BF-7을 섭취한 후, 획기적인 인지기능의 개선과 향상효과가 나타났다. 이는 BF-7이 인지기능을 개선해 줄 수 있는 안전하고 효과적인 후보물질로 개발할 만한 충분한 가치를 제공하여 주는 것이라고 사료된다. Various factors such as senescence, stress, neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer’s disease (AD) contribute to the impairments of organs, especially brain. Also, they should be negative factors on normal brain function, like as memory and cognition. In this study, the neuroprotective role of BF-7, extracted from Bombyx mori, was examined agaist scopolamine-induced neurotoxicity in SK-N-SH cells. In order to know if the BF-7 has positive role on the cognition and memory, we examined using SD rat model and human. Scopolamine-induced memory impairments were observed, as measured by the passive avoidance and water maze tests, but treatment with BF-7 significantly improved memory and cognitive function. Moreover, the memory index and memory preservation of clinical experiments using MMSE-K tests were significantly improved memory and cognitive function. This results strongly represent that the BF-7 play effectively positive role in the improvement of brain function including learning and memory. Taken together, our results suggested that the BF-7 should be useful for developing strategies protecting nervous system and improving brain function.

In this study, the effect of electron beam irradiation on surface properties, such as hardness, adhesion, and surface roughness, of TiN films was investigated. The films were deposited on an SKD-61 substrate through cathodic arc ion plating. After deposition, the films were bombarded with an intense electron beam under incident energies of 500, 1000, and 1500 eV for 10 min. From the results, the surface hardness increased up to 3357 HVIT at 1500 eV, and the critical load increased proportionally with irradiation energy from 15.8 to 23.4 N. In addition, the surface root-mean-square roughness of the films was significantly influenced by electron irradiation. Films subjected to electron irradiation at 1500 eV exhibited the lowest roughness of 397 nm.

The burying generated in the facilitated ground can be influenced by various parameters, such as the shape, scale, and location of reefs, sea-water flow, and ground properties. The impact factors that most affect the scour of artificial reefs are the characteristics of flow and ground.
