<P>We study the effects of an asymmetric radiation field on the properties of a molecular cloud envelope. We employ observations of carbon monoxide ((CO)-C-12 and (CO)-C-13), atomic carbon, ionized carbon, and atomic hydrogen to analyze the chemical and physical properties of the core and envelope of L1599B, a molecular cloud forming a portion of the ring at similar or equal to 27 pc from the star A Ori. The 08 star provides an asymmetric radiation field that produces a moderate enhancement of the external radiation field. Observations of the [C II] fine structure line with the GREAT instrument on SOFIA indicate a significant enhanced emission on the side of the cloud facing the star, while the [C (CO)-C-12 and (CO)-C-13 J = 1-0 and 2-1, and (CO)-C-12 J = 3-2 data from the Purple Mountain Observatory and APEX telescopes suggest a relatively typical cloud interior. The atomic, ionic, and molecular line centroid velocities track each other very closely, and indicate that the cloud may be undergoing differential radial motion. The Hi data from the Arecibo GALFA survey and the SOFIA/GREAT [C II] data do not suggest any systematic motion of the halo gas, relative to the dense central portion of the cloud traced by (CO)-C-12 and (CO)-C-13.</P>

<P><B>Zwei Zinkphthalocyanin‐Photosensibilisatoren</B> mit verschiedenen Phosphinsäure‐Ankergruppen (siehe Schema) wurden synthetisiert. Solarzellen mit diesen Verbindungen verfügen über eine Photostromdichte von (7.6±0.2) mA cm<SUP>−2</SUP> bei geschlossenem Stromkreis, eine Spannung von (559±30) mV bei offenem Stromkreis und einen Füllfaktor von 0.76±0.03; dies entspricht einem Gesamtwirkungsgrad von 3.24 % unter 1 sun.</P>

Objectives: This study developed a smartphone nutritional application (app) for making smart and healthy choices when purchasing food in grocery stores and tested its feasibility, usability, satisfaction and acceptability. Methods: “MyNutriCart” was developed following the ADDIE (analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation) model. The goals of the app were to improve food selection when purchasing foods in the grocery stores based on a pre-defined budget, to improve dietary patterns based on the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, and to improve weight status. It was evaluated within a pilot randomized trial using a convenient sample of 26 overweight or obese adults aged 21–45 years for 8 weeks. Results: The developed app provided a grocery list of healthy foods to meet the individual requirements of all family members within a budget following the recommendations of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. The average use of the app was 75% on each purchase and only 37% of the recommended products were purchased. The main reasons for not purchasing the recommended items were that participants did not like these (28.5%) and that the item was unavailable in the supermarket (24.3%). Over 50% of participants considered the app as feasible, usable, satisfactory, and acceptable (p < 0.05). Conclusions: “MyNutriCart” is the first available app for making smart and healthy choices when purchasing food in grocery stores. This app could be used as a tool to translate recommendations into a practical grocery list that meet the needs of a family within a budget.

Where concrete structures are designed to have a service life of over 100 years, their performance must be monitored, for the prediction models available are fraught with uncertainties that need to be elim- inated. The present study was conducted to meet that need by monitoring a pilot structure for low and intermediate radioactive waste storage. Long-term operation of the sensors was observed to be adequate to determine the value of the parameters that characterise structural durability, such as corrosion current density. The parameters analysed were correlated to calculate their reciprocal impact: where applied in conjunction with artificial intelligence tools, temperature, for instance, was found suitable for finding activation energy and expansion coefficients and detecting outliers. The results showed the pilot structure to perform satisfactorily.

The effect of PHAR-DBH-Me, a cannabinoid receptor agonist, on different cardiovascular responses in adult male rats was analyzed. The blood pressure was measured directly and indirectly. The coronary flow was measured by Langendorff preparation, and vasomotor responses induced by PHAR-DBH-Me in aortic rings precontracted with phenylephrine (PHEN) were analyzed. The intravenous injection of the compound PHAR-DBH-Me (0.018–185 μg/kg) resulted in decreased blood pressure; maximum effect was observed at the dose of 1,850 μg/kg. A concentrationdependent increase in the coronary flow was observed in a Langendorff preparation. In the aortic rings, with and without endothelium, pre-contracted with PHEN (10–6 M), the addition of PHAR-DBH-Me to the superfusion solution (10–12–10–5 M), produced a vasodilator response, which depends on the concentration and presence of the endothelium. L-NAME inhibited these effects. Addition of CB1 receptor antagonist (AM 251) did not modify the response, while CB2 receptor antagonist (AM630) decreased the potency of relaxation elicited by PHAR-DBH-Me. Indomethacin shifted the curve concentration-response to the left and produced an increase in the magnitude of the maximum endothelium dependent response to this compound. The maximum effect of PHAR-DBH-Me was observed with the concentration of 10–5 M. These results show that PHAR-DBH-Me has a concentration-dependent and endothelium-dependent vasodilator effect through CB2 receptor. This vasodilation is probably mediated by the synthesis/release of NO. On the other hand, it is suggested that PHAR-DBH-Me also induces the release of a vasoconstrictor prostanoid.

The acetone contained in human breath is of great interest for the health sector as it is a marker that allows to diagnoseand control diabetes in a non-invasive way. However, its concentration is extremely low. Therefore, high-performanceacetone sensors are still a challenge. With this in mind, MgCo 2 O 4 nanoparticles were synthesized using a microwaveassistedcolloidal route with subsequent calcination. Structural and morphological characterizations were done through varioustechniques. The MgCo 2 O 4 sensor was fabricated with the sample calcined at 500 °C. The sensing results showed that thesensor could detect acetone vapors ranging from 0.5 to 50 ppm at an optimum operating temperature of 250 °C with a highresponse, repeatability, stability, and selectivity. These sensing characteristics revealed that MgCo 2 O 4 could be used as a newsensor material to detect acetone in exhaled human breath.

Purpose: Andrology research has evolved notoriously in the latest years, particularly since male factor contribution to couple infertility has been undoubtedly demonstrated. However, sperm function investigations results are sometimes contradictory, probably as a result of the use of different sperm processing techniques. In this work, we underwent a systematic functional comparison of human sperm samples simultaneously processed by swim-up and density gradient centrifugation, which are the preferred sperm processing methods used in basic and clinical laboratories. Materials and Methods: To compare functional characteristics of sperm isolated by swim-up and density gradient centrifugation followed by incubation at different times under capacitating conditions. Results: Semen samples processed in parallel by these two procedures resulted in sperm preparations with significant differences in redox state, spontaneous intracellular calcium oscillations, hyperactivation, protein tyrosine phosphorylation, and acrosome reaction responsivity to calcium ionophore. Such differences showed time-dependent specific patterns for spontaneous intracellular calcium oscillations, hyperactivation and protein tyrosine phosphorylation. Sperm retrieved by density gradient centrifugation showed more hyperactivation and tyrosine phosphorylation than swim-up sperm, suggesting a higher degree of capacitation. Conclusions: Our results account for functional differences observed in spermatozoa processed with these two methods and therefore may contribute to a better interpretation of outcomes obtained in different laboratories as well as to improve experimental designs aimed to study sperm physiology and fertility potential.

Edible insects have been important sources of food proteins for human consumption and animal feed. In this study, a protein isolate from Pterophylla beltrani Bolivar & Bolivar, 1942 (Orthoptera: Tettigoniidae) was enzymatically processed and its nutraceutical properties were evaluated. Protein isolates were obtained from an insect flour and then was hydrolyzed for 5 h with a sequential process using pepsin and trypsin-chymotrypsin to simulate the gastric intestinal fluids. To evaluate the effect of peptide molecular size on nutraceutical properties, the peptides obtained from Total hydrolyzed (TH) were fractionated by ultrafiltration (UF) with 10 kDa and 3 kDa UF membranes giving fractions (F) with different molecular size (F < 3KDa, F < 10KDa and F > 10KDa). The inhibition assay of Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme (ACE) showed that the best treatment (P < 0.05) was the (TH) with an IC50 value of 0.5 mg/mL while the F < 3KDa was the lowest (P < 0.05) with an IC50 of 1.44 mg/mL, and the peptide size had no effect. However, an α-amylase inhibition was observed with an increase of the IC50 value between TH, F > 10KDa and F < 10KDa although no significative difference (P > 0.05) was found between the TH and F < 3KDa with IC50 of 0.48 and 0.68 mg/mL, respectively. In antioxidant activity, significant differences (P < 0.05) were observed between TH and UF fractions where the best response was in the F < 3KDa. In conclusion, P. beltrani proteins isolate are a source of bioactive peptide, and these could be considered as potential edible insect and sustainable food with nutraceutical effects.
Zn-22Al-2Cu Alloy Phase Transformations at Different Homogenizing Temperatures

The effect of the homogenizing temperature on phase transformations and hardening behavior was studied in a Zn-22Al-2Cu (wt%) alloy homogenized for 7 days at 315, 350, and 390°C. The homogenized alloy was subsequently quenched and aged naturally at room temperature or artificially at 200°C for different time periods. The β phase was unstable at room temperature and it decomposed through the β→α+ηreaction during natural aging. An increase in the homogenizing temperature caused a decrease in the kinet-ics of the decomposition of the β phase in the alloy. Natural aging also caused an increase in the hardness due to the formation of nanometric grains with α and η phases and the presence of an intermetallic εphase. This result agrees with the time exponents (n) between 1.5 and 2.6, which were obtained using the Johnson-Mehl-Avrami-Kolmogorov equation for the decomposition of the β phase. The transformed frac-tion curves exhibited the fastest and slowest growth kinetics of the â phase decomposition at homogeniz-ing temperatures of 350 and 390°C, respectively. The artificial aging induced the formation of equilibrium phases and began a decrease in hardness due to the coarsening process of the equilibrium α, η, and τ'phases.
