<P>We have demonstrated the first example of carbon- and oxygen-free Cu(In,Ga)(SSe)<SUB>2</SUB> (CIGSSe) absorber layers prepared by electrospraying a CuInGa (CIG) precursor followed by annealing, sulfurization, and selenization at elevated temperature. X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy showed that the amorphous as-deposited (CIG) precursor film was converted into polycrystalline CIGSSe with a flat-grained morphology after post-treatment. The optimal post-treatment temperature was 300 °C for annealing and 500 °C for both sulfurization and selenization, with a ramp rate of 5 °C/min. The carbon impurities in the precursor film were removed by air annealing, and oxide that was formed during annealing was removed by sulfurization. The fabricated CIGSSe solar cell showed a conversion efficiency of 4.63% for a 0.44 cm<SUP>2</SUP> area, with <I>V</I><SUB>oc</SUB> = 0.4 V, <I>J</I><SUB>sc</SUB> = 21 mA/cm<SUP>2</SUP>, and FF = 0.53.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/aamick/2014/aamick.2014.6.issue-11/am501286d/production/images/medium/am-2014-01286d_0016.gif'></P>

Objective: Despite the accumulating evidence for the association of Tummer budding (TB) histology with poor prognosis in several solid cancers, the biological characteristics of TB are little known about in the context related to the tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) in uterine cervical cancer (CC). Therefore, this study aimed to identify the transcriptomic immune profiles related to TB status and further provide robust medical evidence for clinical application. Methods: Total RNA was extracted and sequenced from 21 CC tissue specimens. After intersecting the list of DEGs and public immune genes, we selected immune-related DEGs (IR-DEGs). Then, hub genes were obtained using Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator regression. Finally, the correlation between the hub genes and immune cell types was analyzed and four candidate genes were identified. Results: Fifteen and six patients belonged to the high- ( ≥ 5 buds/high-power fieldand) and low-TB groups, respectively. The volcano plot indicates 1464 DEGs (929 upregulated and 535 downregulated genes) between the high- and low-TB groups. Subsequently, 106 IR-DEGs that overlapped between the DEGs and immune-related gene database. Spearmans method was used to identify the correlation between hub genes and immune cell types generated by CIBERSORT and TIMER. The Venn diagram identified four candidates genes (overlapping genes), including one upregulated (FCGR3B) and three (ROBO2, OPRL1, and NR4A2) genes. These gene expression levels were highly accurate in predicting TB status (area under the curve >80%). Moreover, FCGR3B is a hub gene of several innate immune pathways; its expression significantly differed in the overall survival analysis (p = 0.0016). Conclusion: Four immune-related genes (one upregulated (FCGR3B) and three downregulated (ROBO2, OPRL1, and NR4A2) genes) that can impact TB formation and development were detected through a multiple-step analysis. These genes may be potential biomarkers for replacing TB status to stratify CC patients.

Background: Total cholesterol concentration measurement is important in the diagnosis of dyslipidemia and evaluation of cardiovascular disease risk factors. Measurement reliability for obtaining an accurate total cholesterol concentration requires procedure standardization. We evaluated the standardization status for total cholesterol concentration measurement through Korean external quality assessment (EQA) data analysis. Methods: This study involved 1,670 laboratories that participated in the EQA of total cholesterol concentration measurements in 2019 for 32 products from different manufacturers. The target concentrations of three quality control (QC) materials (samples A, B, and C) were measured using the reference method and compared with EQA data. The performance criteria for total cholesterol concentration measurement were based on the National Cholesterol Education Program guidelines, with ±3% inaccuracy. Results: The target values and inaccuracies of the QC material based on the reference method measurements were 254.65±7.64, 108.30±3.25, and 256.29±7.69 mg/dL (6.59±0.20, 2.80±0.08, and 6.63±0.20 mmol/L) for samples A, B, and C, respectively. The performance criteria were not met in 42.7% laboratories for sample A, 68.4% of laboratories for sample B, and 38.0% laboratories for sample C. Conclusions: Despite significant efforts to accurately measure total cholesterol concentrations, further actions are needed for measurement standardization. Manufacturers reporting values that differ from target values should check calibrator traceability; additional efforts to accurately measure total cholesterol concentrations are required for laboratories that use products from these manufacturers.

Nemopilema nomurai have appeared massively since 2003 in Korean waters, and regular offshore monitoring has been performed since 2005 in the eastern Yellow Sea (YS), northwestern East China Sea (ECS), Korean southern waters (Ksw), and western East Sea (ES). Korea Jellyfish Monitoring Network (KoJEM) was established in 2006 for coastal jellyfish monitoring. From these, sight survey monitoring data were gathered and analyzed to extract the yearly and seasonal fluctuation of N. nomurai's abundance and distribution. The first massive annual appearance of N. nomurai occurred in the northwestern ECS, off Shanghai, China, in mid May of 2005-2008 and of 2012-2013. In other years or concurrently with the appearance in the northwestern ECS in the same year, several individuals were found in the mid-eastern YS and Ksw, and southwestern ES. The population of N. nomurai at the northwestern ECS moved to the southeastern YS and Jeju Strait in June, and from the July to August it extended its distribution all around the Korean peninsula and persisted till October. Since October, the distribution was retracted into the southern YS and Ksw, and disappeared slowly. N. nomurai's yearly abundance varied a lot, from nearly 0 inds $10^{-4}m^{-2}$ in 2010 to 62.4 inds $10^{-4}m^{-2}$ in 2005. The highest abundance was recorded in 2005, followed by 2007 and 2009, and the least abundance was in 2008 and 2010-2013. The results were compared with those of the Liaoning Bay, Bohai Sea, which led to speculation about a new seeding place of N. nomurai, and mortality during the early planktonic phase of N. nomurai was proposed as the determinant of the yearly variation in abundance.

Overall assessment of the hemostatic system including procoagulant and anticoagulant changes may help assess the clinical status and prognosis of disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC). The thrombin generation assay provides useful information about the global hemostatic status. Therefore, we measured several parameters of global hemostatic potential by the thrombin generation assay in patients suspected of having DIC. A total of 114 patients with suspected DIC were included. The thrombin generation assay was performed on the calibrated automated thrombogram using tissue factor with or without the addition of thrombomodulin, showing three parameters: lag time, endogenous thrombin potential (ETP), and peak thrombin. Both 1 and 5 pmol/l tissue factor-stimulated ETP and peak thrombin were well correlated with DIC severity. Interestingly, antithrombin level greatly affected ETP, whereas protein C influenced lag time. Prognostic analysis revealed that the area under the curve of peak thrombin stimulated by 1 pmol/l tissue factor was superior to that of D-dimer. Moreover, multivariate Cox analysis showed that the lag time and time to peak with both 1 and 5 pmol/l tissue factor were independent prognostic markers. ETP and peak thrombin well reflect DIC severity. Hypocoagulability manifesting as prolonged lag time and time to peak is expected to be an independent prognostic marker in DIC.
