        In order to investigate effects of krill on lipid components of liver and heart in cholesterol and cadmium-fed rats, male Sprague-Dawley rats were raised for 4 weeks with 8 experimental diets. Krill used in this experiment contained 65.4%(w/w) of protein and 16.7% of lipid. Krill contained 35% of polyunsaturated fatty acids and more unsaturated fatty acids than saturated fatty acids by 2 times. Amino acid content of krill was high in order of Glu, Asp, Tyr and Lys. Rats fed krill diet showed more food intake and weight gain compared with control group. However, food efficiency ratio and weight of liver and heart were not significantly different. The ingestion of cadmium resulted in a severe restriction in growth rate with normal or mild reduction of liver and heart weight. Cadmium also caused a significant decrease in food efficiency ratio. The contents of total and free cholesterol of liver and heart in rats fed krill diets were similar or slightly higher than those fed control diet. Dietary krill also showed no significant difference in liver and heart cholesterol levels in rats with cadmium ingestion. The contents of phospholipid and triglyceride in liver and heart of krill group were slightly higher than those of control group. Supplement of krill reduced triglyceride content of liver in rats ingested with cadmium without any effect on the level of phospholipid and heart lipids. The concentration of cadmium in plasma significantly increased with dietary krill. However, the krill supplement did not influence the concentration of cadmium in liver or heart. A significant accumulation of lipid in liver tissue was observed in all dietary groups but standard group. However, no difference in degree of lipid accumulation was found among the dietary groups. Necrosis and hemolysis of liver in all dietary groups were not shown.

        구강저에 발생한 단독형 신경섬유종

        Benign neural sheath neoplasms are not common in the maxillofacial region. These lesions can occur as solitary tumors, or they can affect many sites in the form of multiple neurofibromatosis. A solitary neurofibroma is seldom undergo sarcomatous transformation, since solitary neurofibroma is relatively radioresistant and its recurrence rate seems to be low, the treatment of choice is surgical excision. This case showed a solitary neurofibroma in the left side of the floor of mouth which occurred in a 33 - year -old female. The tumor was excised. And there is no evidence of disease. She is satisfied in function and esthetic aspect.

        A 34-year-old man was stabbed with knife in the left fourth intercostal space. He was admitted to Kyung Hee University Hospital Emergency room with Cardiac tamponade state. Through a left anterior thoracotomy, a tense hemopercardium was released. A 2㎝ wound of right ventricle was sutured with 3-0 prolein. Seven month after the injury he was readmitted for cardiac catheterization. Cardiac catheterization confirmed the presence of an interventricular septal defect in the membranous septum with left ventricle to right ventricle shunt. A laceration of the septal leflet of mitral valve was also demonstrated. The pulmonary blood flow as 1.22 times the systemic flow. A longitudinal incision was made on the right atrium on the cardiopulmonary bypass. An 1×0.5㎝ interventricular septal defect was found in the membranous septum. In order to achieve and adequate repair interventricular spetal defect and mitral insufficency. The ventricular septal defect was repaired 3-0 prolein plegeted suture with interrupted. Artifical atrial septal defect was made and the septal leflet defect(1.5㎝) was reattached with 3-0 prolein plegeted suture interrupted. The partient had and uneventful post operative recovery and was discharged the Hospital on the 24day post operative day.

        In this study, to identify the ineffectiveness of inter-connected system of cargo volume between the Pusan Port and inland areas and also to make more rational suggestions, the following conclusions were drawn by analyzing Container Cargo Traffic from BCTOC to Off-Dock CY: 1. There existed about 30% to 50% reduction in the container transport times when the container transport vehicles were operated during the off-peak period to alleviate the traffic congestion due to mixed traffic. 2. There appeared to be more economic when Off-Dock DY's scattered around the City of Pusan were unified in one ODCY Unit at YangSan, and the Exclusive Overpass Freeway System for the container transport vehicles were constructed and operated on the existing Urban Freeway from BCTOC ti this ODCY Unit (Expected to make about 230 billions Won in net present value by NPV method).

        Antioxidative Lithium Reservoir Based on Interstitial Channels of Carbon Nanotube Bundles

        <P>Lithium (Li) metal has garnered considerable attention in next-generation battery anodes. However, its environmental vulnerability, along with the electrochemical instability and safety failures, poses a formidable challenge to commercial use. Here, we describe a new class of antioxidative Li reservoir based on interstitial channels of single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) bundles. The Li preferentially confined in the interstitial channels exhibits unusual thermodynamic stability and exceptional capacity even after exposure to harsh environmental conditions, thereby enabling us to propose a new lithiation/delithiation mechanism in carbon nanotubes. To explore practical application of this approach, the Li confined in the SWCNT bundles is electrochemically extracted and subsequently plated on a copper foil. The resulting Li-plated copper foil shows reliable charge/discharge behavior comparable to those of pristine Li foils. Benefiting from the confinement effect of the interstitial channels, the SWCNT bundles hold great promise as an environmentally tolerant, high-capacity Li reservoir.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

      • Comparison of Rearing Temperatures and Feed Ingredients for Protaetia brevitarsis (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae)

        The white-spotted chafer, Protaetia brevitarsis (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae), is the one of the mass-rearing insects in Korea. Traditionally, it has been considered as a medicine for preventing liver-related diseases and suppressing cancer. In addition, this beetle was recently enlisted as a temporal food ingredient by Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. As the economic importance of this beetle is growing, the suitable rearing conditions are needed for more detailed investigation. In this study, we compared three different temperature conditions – 25, 27.5, and 30°C – and the four combinations of two ingredients – soybean cake, and rice bran. With these treatments, the weight change of third instar larvae was tracked for ten weeks. Among three temperatures, 27.5°C was identified as the best temperature condition for rearing this beetle. Among four combinations of different ingredients, the addition of soybean cake made significant weight incensement for third instar larvae. Based on these results, we concluded that adding soybean cake at 27.5°C is the best rearing condition among 12 combinations of temperatures and feed ingredients. In addition, we observed the body weight was reduced when the larvae were closed to the pupation period. Therefore, we recommend that ca. seven weeks after third instar is the best time to distribute it to the market.

      • Simultaneous detection and differentiation of Nosema and Vairimorpha by Duplex PCR

        A Duplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was developed for the simultaneous detection and differentiation among Nosema spp. and Vairimorpha spp. from Lepidoptera insects. Two sets of primers were selected from different genomic sequences to specifically amplify an 831 bp amplicon within the SSU rRNA gene, specific for both Nosema spp. and Vairimorpha spp. (MSSR primer); a 542 bp amplicon within the SSU rRNA gene, specific for Vairimorpha spp. (VSSU primer). Using the primers in conjunction (duplex PCR) it was possible to detect Nosema spp. and Vairimorpha spp. to differentiate between them. The sensitivity of this PCR assay was approximately 10 spores per milliliter. It is proposed that the duplex PCR is a sensitive, specific and rapid tool that can serve as a useful differential diagnostic tool for detecting Nosema spp. and Vairimorpha spp. in Lepidoptera insect.

      • Effects of different foods and temperatures on larval weight of Protaetia brevitarsis (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae)

        The white-spotted flower chafer, Protaetia brevitarsis (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae), is traditionally considered to be an important source of medicinal properties of suppression of cancer and prevention of liver-related diseases. Recently, it was listed as a temporal food ingredient by the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. To use this insect species without endangering wild populations and produce better quality insects, a mass rearing technique and the suitable rearing conditions are needed. The present study was carried out to determine whether different diets and temperatures can affect the larval weight of this beetle. The larval weight change of third instar larvae was tracked for 14 weeks with different combination of three rearing temperatures – 25, 27.5, and 30℃ - and two feed ingredients – soybean cake and rice bran. Among three temperatures, 27.5℃ was the best temperature condition for rearing this beetle. Among four combinations of two feed ingredients, the addition of soybean cake made significant weight increasement for third instar larvae. These results showed that adding soybean cake at 27.5℃ was the best rearing condition for larval weight gain. This rearing condition can be considered in terms of producing better insects and maximizing producers’ benefits.

      • Intracellular ADP-ribose inhibits ATP-sensitive K^+ channels in rat ventricular myocytes

        Intracellular ADP-ribose inhibits ATP-sensitive K^+ channels in rat ventricular myocytes. Am. J. Physiol. 271 (Cell Physiol. 40): C464-c468,1996.-Cyclic ADP-ribose(cADPR), an NAD metabolite, has been shown to be a messenger for Ca^2+ mobilization from intracellular Ca^2+ stroes. However, the physiological role of ADP-ribose(ADPR), another metabolite of NAD, is not known. We examined the effects of cADPR and ADPR and the ATP-sensitive K^+ channel (K_ATP) activity in rat ventricular myocytes by use of the inside-out patch-clamp configuration. ADPR, but not cADPR, inhibited the channel activity at micromolar range with an inhibitor constant(K_i) of 38.4uM. The Hill coefficient was 0.9. ATP inhabited the K_2 channel with a K_i of 77.8 ??, and not Hill coefficient was 1.8. Single-channel conductance was not affected by ADPR. These findings strongly suggest that ADPR may act as a regulator of K_ATP channel activity.
