A KY Converter Integrated with a SR Boost Converter and a Coupled Inductor
Kuo-Ing Hwu,Wen-Zhuang Jiang 전력전자학회 2017 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.17 No.3
A KY converter integrated with a conventional synchronously rectified (SR) boost converter and a coupled inductor is presented in this paper. This improved KY converter has the following advantages: 1) the two converters use common switches; 2) the voltage gain of the KY converter can be improved due to the integration of a boost converter and a coupled inductor; 3) the leakage inductance of the coupled inductor is utilized to achieve zero voltage switching (ZVS); 4) the current stress on the charge pump capacitors and the decreasing rate of the diode current can be limited due to the use of the coupled inductor; and 5) the output current is non-pulsating. Moreover, the active switches are driven by using one half-bridge gate driver. Thus, no isolated driver is needed. Finally, the operating principle and analysis of the proposed converter are given to verify the effectiveness of the proposed converter.

This study proposes a novel isolated high step-up galvanic converter, which is suitable for renewable energy applications and integrates a boost converter, a coupled inductor, a charge pump capacitor cell, and an LC snubber. The proposed converter comprises an input inductor and thus features a continuous input current, which extends the life of the renewable energy chip. Furthermore, the proposed converter can achieve a high voltage gain without an extremely large duty cycle and turn ratio of the coupled inductor by using the charge pump capacitor cell. The leakage inductance energy can be recycled to the output capacitor of the boost converter via the LC snubber and then transferred to the output load. As a result, the voltage spike can be suppressed to a low voltage level. Finally, the basic operating principles and experimental results are provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed converter.

A Double-channel Four-band True Color Night Vision System
Yunfeng Jiang,Dongsheng Wu,Jie Liu,Kuo Tian,Dan Wang 한국광학회 2022 Current Optics and Photonics Vol.6 No.6
By analyzing the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) theory of the conventional true color night vision system, we found that the output image SNR is limited by the wavelength range of the system response λ 1and λ 2 . Therefore, we built a double-channel four-band true color night vision system to expand the system response to improve the output image SNR. In the meantime, we proposed an image fusion method based on principal component analysis (PCA) and nonsubsampled shearlet transform (NSST) to obtain the true color night vision images. Through experiments, a method based on edge extraction of the targets and spatial dimension decorrelation was proposed to calculate the SNR of the obtained images and we calculated the correlation coefficient (CC) between the edge graphs of obtained and reference images. The results showed that the SNR of the images of four scenes obtained by our system were 125.0%, 145.8%, 86.0% and 51.8% higher, respectively, than that of the conventional tri-band system and CC was also higher, which demonstrated that our system can get true color images with better quality.

Determination of the surface area of commercial carbon-black (CB) by cyclic-voltammetry (CV)measurements of the electrochemical double-layer charge (Q) in aqueous sulfuric acid was investigated. Various factors that affect the Q value associated with CB, including: the presence of redox-reversible function-groups, the binders used for the formation of thin-film CB electrodes, the scan rates of the CV measurement, H2SO4 electrolyte concentration and the volume of air contained in the pores of the CB samples were examined. Conditions for measuring Q without interference from these factors were investigated and the data derived, without interference, was found to correlate well with the surface area of the CB. The results show that the total Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface area shows good correlation (R2 = 0.993) with the Q value corresponding to a full charge/discharge of the CB (Q0), obtained by extrapolation at a zero scan rate; additionally, the CB micropore surface area (diameter < 2 nm)shows good linear correlation with the Q deficiency (Q0–Q), measured at 5 mV s-1 (R2 = 0.998).

Patients with neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction (NLUTD) experience urinary incontinence with or without difficult urination, which might promote recurrent urinary tract infection (UTI) and exacerbate upper urinary tract function. Nonetheless, appropriate bladder management has been shown to reduce urological complications and improve quality of life. In addition to pharmacological therapy and surgical intervention, botulinum toxin A (BoNT-A) has been widely utilized in NLUTD. The therapeutic efficacy of detrusor BoNT-A injections for neurogenic detrusor overactivity due to spinal cord injury (SCI), multiple sclerosis, or other central nervous system lesions, such as cerebrovascular accident, Parkinson disease, early dementia, and pediatric NLUTD due to myelomeningocele, has been well established, with repeated BoNT-A injections every 6 to 9 months being necessary to maintain its therapeutic effects. Urethral BoNT-A injection can decrease urethral sphincter resistance and facilitate efficient voiding in patients with NLUTD who wish to preserve self-voiding. Detrusor BoNT-A injection can also decrease the occurrence of autonomic dysreflexia in patients with SCI, even after failed augmentation enterocystoplasty, with additional benefits including reduced UTI episodes and preserved renal function with repeated injections. However, this treatment does have some side effects. Complete informed consent for BoNT-A injection therapy with full disclosure of its potential complications should therefore be obtained before this procedure is undertaken.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy of autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in the treatment of stress urinary incontinence (SUI) due to intrinsic sphincter deficiency (ISD) refractory to medical treatment. Methods: Thirty-five patients with SUI due to urodynamically proven ISD were prospectively enrolled. Five milliliters of PRP (2.5–5 times the platelet concentration in peripheral blood) was injected into the external sphincter at 5 sites; all patients received 4 injections at monthly intervals. The primary end-point was the change in SUI severity as assessed by a visual analogue scale (VAS of SUI). The secondary-endpoints were the Global Response Assessment score and changes in urodynamic parameters from baseline to 3 months after treatment. Results: The mean age of patients was 68.7±12 years; the median duration of SUI was 4 years. Five patients had neurogenic SUI, while 30 had nonneurogenic SUI (21 with postprostatectomy incontinence, 6 with previous radical cystectomy, and 3 with other etiologies). Complete dryness was achieved in 7 patients (20.0%) while moderate improvement was observed in 14 (40.0%). The mean VAS of SUI score decreased significantly from 6.57±1.89 to 3.77±2.41 after treatment. The abdominal leak point pressure (ALPP) increased significantly from 98.3±55.8 to 157.3±79.3 cm H2O. There was no increase of ALPP in neurogenic SUI and less increase of ALPP in patients with failed treatment outcomes. No perioperative adverse events or severe complications occurred. Conclusions: Urethral PRP injection is safe and effective in increasing urethral resistance and improving SUI. PRP could be an alternative treatment modality for male and female patients with moderate SUI due to nonneurogenic causes.

Differentiating arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia/cardiomyopathy (ARVD/C) from other cardiomyopathies is clinically important but challenging. Although the modified Task Force Criteria can facilitate diagnosis of ARVD/C according to clinical manifestations, histopathological examination plays a pivotal role in excluding other diseases that can mimic ARVD/C. Here, we report a patient with amyloidosis that initially presented similarly to ARVD/C. The diagnosis was confirmed by endomyocardial biopsy, and catheter ablation eliminated the ventricular tachyarrhythmias through an epicardial approach.
