The Incidental Pancreatic Cyst: When to Worry About Cancer

Incidental pancreatic cystic lesions are a common challenge encountered by diagnostic radiologists. Specifically, given the prevalence of benign pancreatic cystic lesions, determining when to recommend aggressive actions such as surgical resection or endoscopic ultrasound with sampling is difficult. In this article, we review the common types of cystic pancreatic lesions including serous cystadenoma, intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm, and mucinous cystic neoplasm with imaging examples of each. We also discuss high-risk or worrisome imaging features that warrant a referral to a surgeon or endoscopist and provid several examples of these features. These imaging features adhere to the latest guidelines from the International Consensus Guidelines, American Gastroenterological Association (2015), American College of Gastroenterology (2018), American College of Radiology (2010, 2017), and European Guidelines (2013, 2018). Our focused article addresses the imaging dilemma of managing incidental cystic pancreatic lesions, weighing the options between imaging follow-up and aggressive interventions.

The purpose of this study is to discuss and analyze the trends in ICT in education informatization and the need for more scholarly research and dialogue done between Korea and Chile due to their similar ideals in furthering ICT in education in their respective economies. In result of this, 29 individual and team reports submitted by Chilean trainees in the APEC eLearning Trainee Program from 2006-2014 were analyzed. From this study, the results based on the reports were as follows. 1) The need for high quality teacher training programs created by the government and motivating the teachers to participate in these programs. 2) Implementation of more cooperation and collaboration between teacher-student, teacher-expert, and publicprivate partnership programs. 3) Improving students’ aptitude in utilizing ICT, especially in education. 4) Due to the majority of the trainees’ coming from the teaching profession, more research is needed to be done by other stakeholders involved in education informatization, such as government officials, learners, and professors, in order to enhance the totality of this study.

Background: Diabetes is a chronic disease with several long-term complications. Several glucose-lowering drugs are used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), e.g., glimepiride and liraglutide, in which both having different modes of action. Circulating microRNAs (miRNAs) are suggested as potential biomarkers that are associated with the disease development and the effects of the treatment. In the current study we evaluated the effect of glimepiride, liraglutide on the expression of the circulating miRNAs.Methods: The present study is a <i>post hoc</i> trial from a previously randomized control trial comparing liraglutide versus glimepiride both in combination with metformin in subjects with T2DM, and subclinical heart failure. miRNAs were determined in the subjects’ serum samples with next generation sequencing. Expression patterns of the circulating miRNAs were analyzed using bioinformatic univariate and multivariate analyses (clinical trial registration: NCT01425580).Results: Univariate analyses show that treatment with glimepiride altered expression of three miRNAs in patient serum, miR-206, miR-182-5p, and miR-766-3p. Both miR-182-5p and miR-766-3p were also picked up among the top contributing miRNAs with penalized regularised logistic regressions (Lasso). The highest-ranked miRNAs with respect to Lasso coefficients were miR-3960, miR-31-5p, miR-3613-3p, and miR-378a-3p. Liraglutide treatment did not significantly influence levels of circulating miRNAs.Conclusion: Present study indicates that glucose-lowering drugs differently affect the expression of circulating miRNAs in serum in individuals with T2DM. More studies are required to investigate possible mechanisms by which glimepiride is affecting the expression of circulating miRNAs.
Smart Stimuli-Responsive Polylactic Acid-Hydrogel Fibers Produced via Electrospinning

In this research we propose a new type of smart microfibers, distinguished by moisture management and proactivetemperature and pH controlled release activity. Hydrogel with submicron-sized particles based on poly(Nisopropylacrylamide)(poly-NiPAAm) and chitosan (PNCS hydrogel) was incorporated into the structure of poly(lactic acid)(PLA) microfibers using the electrospinning technique. Composites with different PLA to PNCS hydrogel ratios wereprepared, and the chemical and morphological properties of the samples were studied using SEM, FT-IR and Ramanmapping. Additionally, the moisture management properties, which were provided by the temperature and pH-related phasechange transition of the incorporated PNCS hydrogel, were studied by determining the temperature-related static contactangle, thin-layer wicking, moisture content and pH-related water uptake. The loading and release abilities of the incorporatedPNCS hydrogel were studied using fluorescent microscopy. The increased concentration of the PNCS hydrogel in spinningsolutions resulted in greater variations in fiber thickness and deterioration of the mechanical properties of the fibers; thus, thehighest concentration of the PNCS hydrogel that could be incorporated within the fibers was found to be 20 % of the spinningmass. The composite sample showed temperature and pH responsiveness, a successful fluorescent-dye loading ability and itscontrolled release at predetermined conditions.
Need Assessments for Designing APEC Edutainment Exchange Program (AEEP) in Sakha

본 연구는 러시아 사하공화국과 한국 간 APEC 에듀테인먼트 교류 프로그램(이하 AEEP) 개발을 위 해 사하공화국 현지 교사와 교육전문가들을 대상으로 프로그램에 관한 요구와 기타 관련된 사항들의 실태를 분석하고자 하는 것이다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 문헌연구를 기반으로 현지 조사와 함께 설 문조사와 인터뷰를 실시하였다. 현지 조사는 한-사하 AEEP를 주관할 대학교와 AEEP 참가자들의 고등 학교 그리고 캠프장과 다양한 체험학습대상지들을 방문하였고, 담당 교사들 및 교수들을 대상으로 교 육 현황과 프로그램에 관한 요구 조사를 실시하였다. 그에 따른 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 러시 아 극동 지구에 위치한 사하는 문화와 역사, 환경 및 기후의 측면에서 독특하고 다양한 교육 자원들 을 보유하고 있다. 그리고 이를 활용한 청소년 대상의 국제교육협력활동에 높은 요구를 보이고 있었 다. 둘째, AEEP를 통해 대규모 국제교류활동을 실시하기 위해서는 참여자들의 한-러 간 언어 장벽, 이에 따른 통역 지원, 참여 경비, 현지 교민 및 관련 기관과의 연계 등과 같은 점을 고려해야 한다. 셋째, 사하공화국은 한국에 대해 긍정적인 이미지를 가지고 있으나, 우리나라 학생들에게는 지리적으 로 뿐만 아니라 음식과 대화 방식 등 다소 낯설고 독특한 문화를 가지고 있어서 문화의 차이에 대해 충분한 사전 교육이 필요한 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 이후 후속연구에서는 상기와 같은 점을 고려하 여, 사하공화국의 풍부한 자연 환경을 안전하고 매력적으로 활용하고, 다양한 측면에서의 체제적 지 원을 포함하는 AEEP 개발 연구가 필요할 것이다. The purpose of this study is to assess the need for APEC Edutainment Exchange Program(AEEP) and current status of educational environment of Sakha in Russia in order to design AEEP with Korea. To this end, based on literature review, this study conducted a field research in Sakha visiting universities, schools, camp sites and various sits for experiential learning for students and did a survey and interviews targeting the local teaches and education experts. The results are as follows. First, having high demand for international educational cooperation activities for students, Sakha, located in the far east of Russia, has attractive and divergent educational resources in the aspect of culture, history, and natural environments. Second, it needs to consider participation costs, matters of interpretation due to language barriers between Korea and Russia, and involvement and support from local Korean residents and related institutions. Third, there should be enough attention and orientation to Korean students so that they can understand and respect the cultural difference of speaking attitude and food in Sakha. These results could provide preliminary data to develop Sakha-Korea AEEP utilizing divergent cultural resources and rich natural environments of Sakha with systemic support for participants.
