The retail business of drugstore was introduced to Korea for the first time 10 years ago. Since Olive Young introduced a retail store in the name of drugstore in 1999 for the first time in Korea, new distribution channel combining drugstore, cosmetic products and dairy products, etc has been made. At initial stage, the new distribution channel grew up slowly because of low specialty and economic stagnation. However, the three big distribution channels, that is to say, Olive Young (CJ), Watsons (GS) and W Store (Kolon Well Care), etc, were established to produce new distribution system following large-scaled discount stores as well as convenience stores. The purpose of the study is to investigate ways making Korean style drugstore be new retail business in addition to traditional markets, department stores, E-Mart and other general super markets and to examine problems preventing the drugstore from being promoted and to find out solutions. The speciality retailers that is called a category killer attacking department stores as well as marts is expanding market quickly. New consumption trend that gives priority to wellbeing is being expanded in accordance with high level of standards of living life: The drugstore is thought to be new alternative of distribution because it keeps special products. Young ladies who are main customers of drugstores respond to the trend sensitively to have more buying power that is thought to be promising. And, consumers' desire has become concrete and special. This is because consumers want not only convenient shopping but also special shopping system that is current trend. These days, so called Multi-shop and Total shop and other special shops have been recently opened. Special multi-shop has been concentrated on fashion product and miscellaneous goods so far: Health total wellbeing shop shall be popular in accordance with wellbeing trends. Peripheral nerve injuries are a commonly encountered clinical problem and often result in a chronic pain and severe functional deficits. The expression of c-Fos is sometimes used as a marker of increased neuronal activity. We have prepared the aqueous extract of amygdalin from Armeniacae semen for pain control. In the present study, we investigated the effects of amygdalin on the recovery rate of the locomotor function and on the expression of c-Fos in the ventrolateral periaqueductal gray (vlPAG) region following sciatic crushed nerve injury in rats. Walking track analysis for the evaluation of functional recovery and immunohistochemistry for the c-Fos expression were used in this study. In the present results, characteristic gait change with dropping of the sciatic function index (SFI) was observed and c-Fos expression in the vlPAG was suppressed following sciatic crushed nerve injury in rats. Amygdalin enhanced SFI value and restored c-Fos expression in the vlPAG to the control value. The present our study indicated that amygdalin activates neurons in the vlPAG, and it facilitates functional recovery following peripheral nerve injury.
Preparation and Characterization of CdSe Nanoparticles Prepared by Using Ultrasonic Irradiation

<P>CdSe nanoparticles with average particles size of ~ 3.4 nm were successfully prepared by the sonochemical reduction of a mixed solution of CdCl2, Na2SeSO3 and CH2CH2OH)2NH at room temperature. CdSe nanoparticles characterized by TEM, XPS and XRD analysis revealed the formation of high purity cubic phase CdSe nanoparticles with lattice constant of a=6.415Å. CdSe nanoparticles showed relatively large range of particle size distribution from 20 to 50 nm as the sonication time increased. UV-Vis absorption spectra showed a red-shift in the wavelength region of 545-590 nm as increasing sonication time due to the gradual growth of CdSe nanoparticles in the solution. This paper will mainly present the effects of ultrasonic irradiation on the formation and properties of CdSe nanoparticles.</P>

Real Cell-PA<SUP>TM</SUP> 는 살아 있는 식물 세포로 활성 성분이 봉입된 형태의 새로운 소재이다. 본 연구에서는 세포 및 인체 피부에서 Real Cell-PA<SUP>TM</SUP>의 유용한 효과를 관찰하였다. 콜라겐 분해 억제능 시험에서 Real Cell-PATM는 자외선으로 유도된 MMP-1 mRNA 발현을 억제하였고, 콜라겐 섬유의 분비를 유의하게 활성화시켰다. 세포 이동능 시험에서는 Real Cell-PA<SUP>TM</SUP>를 처리한 그룹에서 세포의 이동거리가 증가되었다. 또한 농도 의존적 DPPH 라디컬 소거능 및 세포내 활성산소의 농도가 효과적으로 감소되는 것을 확인하였다. 인체 적용 시험 결과 Real Cell-PA<SUP>TM</SUP>가 적용된 시험군에서 사용 28일 후 사용 전에 비해 유의한 탄력 및 윤기 개선이 관찰되었다. 따라서 이러한 결과는 Real Cell-PA<SUP>TM</SUP>가 피부 노화를 억제하는 효과적인 새로운 소재로서 화장품 및 의약외품에 적용될 수 있을 것으로 생각된다.
Production of Iron-Binding Peptides from Colostral Whey by Enzymatic Hydrolysis

Colostral whey prepared from colostrum (pooled from first six post-partum milkings) was heated for 10 min at 100oC. Heated colostral whey was incubated with 1% enzymes (protein equivalent basis) for 15, 30, 60, 90, and 120 min at 50oC. Papain, pepsin, trypsin, and alcalase produced different degrees of hydrolysis (DH), 10.66%, 12.42%, 10.83%, and 25.31%, respectively, at an incubation time of 120 min. The SDS-PAGE reveals that significant amounts of bovine serum albumin (BSA), β-lactoglobulin (β-LG), and α-lactalbumin (α-LA) survived papain digestion. In contrast, pepsin completely removed BSA but not β-LG present in heated colostral whey. Alcalase completely eliminated BSA, β-LG, and α-LA. This differential hydrolysis was confirmed by reversed-phase HPLC analysis. Using ion-exchange chromatography, fraction-1 (F-1) was obtained from alcalase hydrolysate at a NaCl gradient concentration of 0.25 M. Reversed-phase HPLC chromatograms of alcalase F-1 showed numerous small peaks, which probably indicate that a variety of new peptides were produced. Iron content of alcalase F-1 was 28.94 ppm, which was the highest among all enzyme fractions, whereas iron content of colostral whey was 36.56 ppm. Main amino acids contained in alcalase F-1 were Thr (15.45%), Glu (14.12%), and Ser (10.39%). Therefore, alcalase can be used to generate good iron-binding peptides in heated colostral whey, and the resulting iron-binding peptides could be suitable as a value-added food ingredient for food supplements.
