A Study on Ship Assignment Strategies of Shipping Companies Accounting for Shipper Time Value
Kenji Tanaka,Heng Wang,Takaaki Kawanaka,Jing Zhang 대한산업공학회 2020 Industrial Engineeering & Management Systems Vol.19 No.2
The three major shipping companies consolidated their liner business. However, the global share of the newly consol-idated company was a low 6.5%, making it only the 6th largest in the world. Thus, the Japanese shipping industry still remain in a disadvantageous position in terms of competing with more efficient large-scale shipping companies. Hence, Japanese shipping companies require a strategy not based upon price competition in order to survive. In this study, we propose a method for formulating vessel assignment plans accounting for inter-company competition. The flow of research is as follows: 1) Estimates time value accounting for shipper demand fluctuation risk, 2) Evaluates vessel assignment plans in terms of shipping company container transport volume and profit, 3) As an example, fo-cuses on a regional dominance strategy for Japanese shipping company vessel assignment, conducts a case study through simulation, and then evaluates it. From the simulation results, a regional dominance strategy based on the vessel assignment plan formulation method proposed in this study is thought to be superior in the long term as a strat-egy for The Alliance in Southeast Asia.
Toward High Thermal Conductivity Nano Micro Epoxy Composites with Sufficient Endurance Voltage
Tanaka, Toshikastu,Kozako, Masahiro,Okamoto, Kenji The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers 2012 The Journal of International Council on Electrical Vol.2 No.1
We are aiming at the development of epoxy composite materials with both high thermal conductivity and sufficient voltage endurance. A target is set as 10 W/m/K with 5 kV withstand voltage for power electronics applications. In order to achieve high thermal conductivity for polymers such as epoxy, it is a common method to fill inorganic micro particles with high thermal conductivity, but such composites prepared in this way shows lower endurance voltage. To compensate such negative performance, it is considered to be a good way to add nano sized inorganic particles. After many trials were made, good results were obtained for a composite material with two modes of BN and alumina and surface treated nano silica. It has thermal conductivity larger than 5- 10 W/m/K with reasonable withstand voltage.

Study Design: Radiological analysis of normal patterns of sagittal alignment of the spine. Purpose: This study aimed to clarify the characteristics of normal sagittal spino-pelvic alignment in Asian people. Overview of Literature: It is known that there are differences in these parameters based on age, gender, and race. In order to properly plan for surgical correction of the spine for Asian patients, it is necessary to understand the normal spino-pelvic alignment parameters for this population. Methods: This study analyzed 86 Japanese healthy young adult volunteers (48 men and 38 women; age 35.9±11.1 (mean±standard deviation [SD]). The following parameters were measured on lateral standing radiographs of the entire spine: sagittal vertical axis (SVA), horizontal distance between the C7 plumb line and the posterior superior corner of the superior margin of S1, thoracic kyphotic angle (TK), lumbar lordotic angle (LLA), sacral slope (SS), pelvic tilt (PT), and pelvic incidence (PI). Results: The values (mean±SD) of SVA, TK, LLA, SS, PT, and PI were 8.45±25.7 mm, 27.5±9.6°, 43.4±14.6°, 34.6±7.8°, 13.2±8.2°, and 46.7±8.9°, respectively. The Japanese young adults evaluated in this study tended to have a smaller PI, LLA, TK, and SVA than most Caucasian people. Regarding gender differences, SVA was significantly longer and TK was significantly smaller in men; however, there was no statistically significant difference in LLA, SS, PA, and PI. Conclusions: Japanese young adults apparently have smaller PI and LLA values than Caucasian people. When making decisions for optimal sagittal spinal alignment, racial differences should be considered.
Identification of the Part of Soccer Court from Video Signal by Neural Networks
Kenji Ishida,Masahiro Tanaka 제어로봇시스템학회 2008 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2008 No.10
Recently, it is becoming a popular practice to use character information in broadcasting video programs. This is useful for handicapped people with ears. In some cases, the characters are typed by typists. In that respect, it should be an important technology to produce the abstracted character information from the video information. The abstracted information will be useful for the normal audience, CG representation of the program, and store the game abstract in databases. In this paper, we will deal with the video processing part to identify the part of the court.

Study Design: Normal cervical sagittal length patterns were measured by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship of sagittal length patterns between the cervical cord and the cervical canal in flexion-extension kinematics. Overview of Literature: Cervical dynamic factors sometimes cause a cervical spondylotic myelopathy in elderly subjects and an overstretching myelopathy in juvenile subjects. Previous studies showed the length changing of the cervical cord in flexion and extension. However, there is no detailed literature about the relationship between cervical vertebral motion and cord distortion yet. Methods: Sixty-two normal subjects (28 male and 34 female, 42.1±8.5 years old) without neck motion disturbances and abnormalities on cervical X-ray and MRI were enrolled in this study. Results: The cervical cord length was significantly longer in flexion and significantly shorter in extension in all cervical cord sagittal lines. The cervical canal length pattern was also the same as the cervical cord. The elongation of the cervical cord and canal was the largest at the site of the posterior cervical canal and the shortest at the anterior canal site. The positions of the cerebellar tonsils were verified at each neck position. Conclusions: The posterior elements of the cervical canal were most affected by neck motion. Movement directions of the upper cervical cord were verified among the various neck positions.
Estimating Point-of-View-based Similarity using POV Reinforcement and Similarity Propagation
( Kenji Nagamatsu ),( Hidehiko Tanaka ) 한국언어정보학회 1996 국제 워크샵 Vol.1996 No.-
This paper proposes a similarity measure which takes account of point-of-views (abbreviated to POV, hereafter) in the calculation of similarity values. So far many researches on similarity measures have been per-formed but none takes account of POVs. The similarity measure pro-posed in this paper is based on co-occurrence probabilities of words and this makes it possible to obtain preferable precision even if POVs are not given. This method consists of two parts of processes, POV reinforce-ment and similarity propagation. First, the POV reinforcement process, which affects the similarity between words, modifies the weights of links according to the relatedness between the link and the POV word. Sec-ond, the similarity propagation process propagates the weights of links and defines a similarity value for word pairs which do not actually co-occur in the corpus. Using those two processes this method becomes capable both to take POVs into consideration and to cope with the sparseness of corpora to some degree. This paper, however, focuses on the POV reinforcement and evaluates the effectiveness of the method.
