Electroluminescence from n-Zn(Mg,Cd)O/ p-4H-SiC:Al Heterojunctions

Electroluminescence (EL) from n-Mg0:18Zn0:82O/ n-Zn(Mg,Cd)O/ p-4H-SiC:Al heterojunction diodes fabricated by using remote-plasma-enhanced metal-organic chemical-vapor deposition was measured to investigate some recombination processes of hole injection by changing the bandgap of n-Zn(Mg,Cd)O. EL emissions from the heterojunction utilizing n-Zn1-xCdxO (x > 0.07) were observed to coincide with the photoluminescence (PL) emission energy of the corresponding alloy content due to hole injection from the p-4H-SiC:Al to the n-Zn1-xCdxO layer in the type-I het-erojunctions. However, broad EL emissions from the type-II heterojunctions utilizing n-ZnO and n-Mg0:12Zn0:88O were observed at around 2.8 eV. These broad ELs were caused by the recombination of carriers in p-4H-SiC:Al due to electron injection from n-Zn(Mg,Cd)O to p-4H-SiC:Al and by the recombination of spatially separated carriers at the heterointerface.
Di-Higgs enhancement by neutral scalar as probe of new colored sector

<P>We study a class of models in which the Higgs pair production is enhanced at hadron colliders by an extra neutral scalar. The scalar particle is produced by the gluon fusion via a loop of new colored particles, and decays into di-Higgs through its mixing with the Standard Model Higgs. Such a colored particle can be the top/bottom partner, such as in the dilaton model, or a colored scalar which can be triplet, sextet, octet, etc., called leptoquark, diquark, coloron, etc., respectively. We examine the experimental constraints from the latest Large Hadron Collider (LHC) data, and discuss the future prospects of the LHC and the Future Circular Collider up to 100 TeV. We also point out that the 2.4 s excess in the b (b) over bar gamma gamma final state reported by the ATLAS experiment can be interpreted as the resonance of the neutral scalar at 300 GeV.</P>

Pharmaceutical angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors have been shown to reduce arterial stiffness; the possible effect of food-derived putative ACE inhibitory peptides on this degenerative process, however, has not been reported. In the present study, casein hydrolysate containing the lactotripeptides, Val-Pro-Pro (VPP) and Ile-Pro-Pro (IPP), which has been found to have an antihypertensive effect in a number of clinical studies, was investigated for its ability to improve hemodynamic parameters, including central systolic blood pressure (cSBP), in hypertensive subjects. Twelve hypertensive subjects who were not on prescribed medication were monitored for various hemodynamic parameters, including brachial blood pressure (peripheral blood pressure), cSBP, and augmentation index (AI), at the start and then after 3, 6, and 9 weeks of a daily treatment comprising four tablets containing VPP and IPP. Compared with basal levels, treatment with casein hydrolysate for 6 and/or 9 weeks showed a significant reduction in peripheral systolic and diastolic blood pressure, AI, and cSBP, but not in heart rate or pulse pressure. cSBP showed a reduction sooner and greater (−21.8mm Hg) than did brachial systolic blood pressure (−16.4mm Hg) during the 9-week treatment. Although small and not placebo-controlled, this study suggests that continuous intake of VPP and IPP might have the potential to improve arterial stiffness as well as cSBP and peripheral brachial blood pressure.

Since distal femoral varus osteotomy (DFO) -specific plates had not been available in Japan before 2015, we performed DFO using a plate for tibia. The purpose of this study was to elucidate the efficacy and problems associated with the non-specific plate in DFO. We used NCB-PT plates (Zimmer Inc.) in the upside-down position and the minimum 5-year outcomes were evaluated. The mean preoperative weight bearing line ratio and Japanese Orthopaedic Association score improved from 97.6%±35.8% and 68.0±11.5, respectively, to 44.0%±16.1% and 82.0±7.6, respectively, 1 year postoperatively and to 42.8%±15.7% and 86.0±8.2, respectively, 5 years postoperatively. The flexion range decreased from 149.0°±6.5° to 138.0°±5.7° 1 year postoperatively and to 135.0°±20.9° 5 years postoperatively. Although DFO using the NCB-PT plate provided mid-term benefits, it resulted in a loss of knee flexion, possibly due to excessive coverage of the medial femoral epicondyle.
