A major cause of traffic accidents has been found in the human factors involved in driver's awareness during driving, and the effect of alarm was reported as the increase of awareness and the improving effect for property of perception, cognition and judgment of the driver. The arousal stimulus for driver by auditory-visual alert also affects to the physiological condition and the autonomic nervous system (ANS). Recent developments in multi near-infrared spectroscopy (MNIRS) have enabled the arousal level apparent with brain activity by measurement of hemoglobin concentrations as cerebral blood volume, as well as the ordinary biological signals like heart beats, finger plethysmogram and pulsation waves. In this study, the three kinds of auditory alert as pre-information, sound alert and voice guidance were used for adaptive assisting systems for the elderly driver and the influence of these alerts on the driver's psychosomatic state was examined using driving simulator for 30 minutes driving. Experiment was conducted with the subjects in a driving position as they were partially awakened by auditory-visual alert, repeatedly and measured their biological properties. As the results, after taking the effects of the adaptive assisting alert systems, the effect of arousal and awareness improvement was recognized in the subjects and the activation of cerebral blood volume was observed according to the amount of the stimulus and combination of awareness modal as auditory alert system.
MBE Growth of ZnSe Films on Lattice-Matched InxGa1-xAs Substrates

Raman scatering of ZnSe layers grown on nearly latice matched InxGa1-xAs substrates (x = 0 -0.092) by using molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) have ben investigated. The Raman shift of the ZnSe longitudinal optical (LO) phonon stays nearly constant while the line width Γ increases with increasing indium molar fraction of the substrates. The results are analyzed based on the two-parameter spatial corelation model. The intrinsic line width of ZnSe LO is found to depend strongly on the spatial corelation length of the substrate.
Enhanced wound healing by an epigallocatechin gallate‐incorporated collagen sponge in diabetic mice

<P><B>ABSTRACT</B></P><P>Epigallocatechin‐3‐<I>O</I>‐gallate (EGCG), the major polyphenolic compound present in green tea, has potent anti‐oxidant and free radical‐scavenging activities. In this study, various concentrations (10, 100, and 1,000 ppm) of EGCG were incorporated into a collagen sponge (CS) in order to investigate its healing effects on full‐thickness wounds created in type 2 diabetic mice. After 14 days, the residual wound size of the mice treated with 10 ppm EGCG‐incorporated collagen sponge (E‐CS) decreased significantly faster than that of the other mice. Moreover, significant increases in the degree of reepithelialization, the thickness of the granulation tissue, and the density of the capillaries were also histologically observed in the wound sites exposed to 10 ppm E‐CS in comparison with the others. Furthermore, 10 ppm E‐CS resulted in significant increases in the immunoreactivity of Ki‐67 (reepithelialization at the wound site), CD31 (formation of blood vessels), and α‐smooth muscle actin (the induction of myofibroblasts across the dermis). These results suggest that a CS incorporated with EGCG at low concentrations can enhance wound healing in diabetic mice by accelerating reepithelialization and angiogenesis as well as improving the cellular reorganization of granulation tissue by triggering the activity of myofibroblasts.</P>
