Background : Recently, the lung cancer mortality rank first in Korea. The prognosis of lung cancer is not good enough with current treatments and multimodality treatments are required. So we are interested in the characteristics of lung cancer patients for better treatment. Methods : We searched lung cancer patients since 1994. Then we collected the data of primary lung cancer patients about the demographic features, histologic types and diagnotic methods. We divided the total period into 2 haves and specific analysis was tried. Results : 1) Total 850 patients were included. 633 (74.5%) were male and 217 (25.5%) were female. 2) The mean age was 65 ± 11 years old. and the peak age was 7th decades. 3) Squamous cell carcinoma(334/850, 39.3%) was slightly more prevalent than adenocarcinoma(302/850, 35.5%). Conclusion : From these results, we expected that older persons will be diagnosed to have lung cancer and adenocarcinoma will be more dominant histologic type with time.

In order to develop radiopharmaceuticals for targeting a serotonin receptor such as $5-HT_{1A}$, histidine-$C_n$-arylpiperazines (AP) (C = alkyl, n = 2, 3, 4) were prepared in five steps with yields of 25%, 37% and 51%, respectively, and radiolabeled with the $[^{99m}Tc(CO)_3(H_2O)+3]^+$. The $^{99m}Tc(CO)_3$-Histidine-Cn-APs were prepared with a high yield (>99%) and characterized as a tridentate complex with a neutral charge to pass through the blood-brain barrier (BBB). The rhenium complexes with $Re(CO)_3$ were also synthesised and comparative experiments were achieved to evaluate the nature of the $^{99m}Tc$ complexes.

The activities per volume of 188Re and 99mTc from their generators are dependent on the specific activity oftheir mother nuclides 188W and 99Mo respectively. After a particular lapse of time, the eluted RI activity isexponentially reduced and thus cannot satisfy the needs of clinical application. The purpose of this study is todevelop a 188Re and 99mTc concentration device with a compact size that can extend the period of use as wellas conveniently concentrate the RI. We designed the concentration module by including two-different checkvalves that do not required any manual on-off operations. In these concentration process, cation exchangeresin embedded with Ag and anion exchange resins were used. After completing the concentrating step,the recovering yield was identified to be more than 93% for 188Re generators and 88% for 99mTc generators. Moreover, all these procedures were done within 5 min.
Preparation of an Amino Acid Based DTPA as a BFCA for Radioimmunotherapy

For the purpose of developing more effective chelating agents, we have synthesized a diethylene triamine pentaacetic acid(DTPA) analogue by using an amino acid. S-(N-Boc-aminophenyl)-Cys(t-Bu4-DTPA) methylester was prepared in 6 steps with total yield of 47.9%. For the sake of introducing a biomolecule to the DTPA derivative, a selective hydrolysis was performed with 3 M HCl/Ethylacetate = 1 : 3 ($25{^{\circ}C}$, 30 min, vigorous stirring). $^{166}Ho$-Cys-DTPA and $^{166}Ho$-Biotin-Cys-DTPA were prepared by mixing $^{166}Ho$ with DTPA derivatives at room temp in a HCl solution (pH = 5) and the radiochemical stabilities (> 99%) were maintained for over 6 hrs in vitro.
Effect of αGal on corneal xenotransplantation in a mouse model

Xenotransplantation 2011; 18: 176–182. © 2011 John Wiley & Sons A/S.</P><P><B>Abstract: </B><B> Background: </B> It has been reported that hyperacute rejection (HAR) does not occur after pig‐to‐nonhuman corneal xenotransplantation. However, considering that immune privilege is already disrupted in most human corneal recipients, and the expression of αGal can be gradually reduced after pig‐to‐rat corneal transplantation, the long‐term survival of corneal grafts from wild‐type pigs cannot be guaranteed. Accordingly, we aimed to investigate the effect of αGal on the change in anti‐Gal antibodies, using sensitized α1,3‐galactosyltransferase gene‐knockout (GTKO) mice recipients.</P><P><B>Methods: </B> C57BL/6 (B6) and GTKO mice were divided into 5 groups and underwent orthotopically full thickness cormeal transplantation as follows (n=4 for each group): (1) group 1: B6 to B6; (2) group 2: fresh porcine posterior corneal lamella to B6; (3) fresh porcine posterior corneal lamella to GTKO; (4) group 4: decellularized porcine posterior corneal lamella to GTKO, and (5) group 5: B6 to GTKO. Before transplantation, all GTKO recipients were sensitized using intraperitoneal injections of rabbit blood cells. Median survival times (MST) for the corneal grafts of the different groups were compared and plasma concentrations of IgG/IgM anti‐Gal antibodies were evaluated at 1 week, 2 weeks and 3 weeks post‐transplantation.</P><P><B>Results: </B> There were no differences in MSTs between groups. Although there was no HAR of fresh porcine posterior corneal grafts even in sensitized GTKO recipients, αGal expression was induced in the transplanted fresh porcine corneal grafts and plasma concentration of IgG anti‐Gal antibody was gradually increased in fresh porcine cornea‐grafted GTKO recipients. On the contrary, αGal expression did not increase in the grafts and plasma concentration of anti‐Gal antibodies did not change after transplantation using decellularized porcine corneas.</P><P><B>Conclusions: </B> Our findings suggest that αGal may affect the long‐term survival of porcine corneal xenografts via antibody‐mediated rejection, although αGal does not have an effect on acute rejection and decellularized porcine corneas may enable the long‐term survival of porcine corneal xenografts.</P>

The aim of this study is to develop and synthesize 5-HT1A receptor imaging agents with WAY-100635 moiety and 99mTc(CO)3 core. WAY-100635 is commonly known as 5-HT1A antagonist and its labeled compound ([11C]-WAY-100635) has been used as effective radioligand for imaging brain 5-HT1A receptors with PET(Positron Emission Tomography). However, there are several restrictions in using a radioisotope of C-11 and requires for more effective radioisotopes and ligands. In order to produce a structure most similar to WAY-100635, WAY-100635 derivatives containing a cysteine chelator were designed and confirmed by using in silico (Hyperchem). The novel compounds (7a, 7b, 7c) were prepared in five or 7 steps with yields of 16%, 36% and 42%, respectively and radiolabeled with [99mTc(CO)3(H2O)3]+. The labeling yield was 99% for all the newly synthesized compounds. [99mTc(CO)3]- WAY-100635 derivatives show a neutral charge which were confirmed by paper electrophoresis.
