The study evaluates the enzymatic dry matter (DM) degradability and water holding capacity of leaf and stem fractions of orchardgrass (Dactylis glomerata L.) at different growth stages with or without the presence of surfactant Tween 80. While Tween 80 significantly (p<0.05) increased water and enzyme holding capacities in the leaf blades fraction, less was observed in the fraction of leaf sheath and stem of orchardgrass. The enzyme holding capacity in the leaves was also altered more than that for water holding capacity. This resulted in the increased rate and extent of enzymatic hydrolysis of the leaf blade fractions at two growth stages, whereas little was with leaf sheath and stem fractions. It was also observed that at 0.005% concentrations of Tween 80 the enzymatic DM degradability of young leaf blades was higher (p<0.05) by 20-30% compared to that of the control, as well as for water and enzyme holding capacity. For matured leaf blades the DM degradability were increased with over 0.01% concentrations of the surfactant, but the increase was less than leaf blades of young orchardgrass. This result suggests the possibility of using the surfactant Tween 80 to improve forage digestibility in the rumen.
EFFECTS OF HEAT EXPOSURE ON WATER METABOLISM AND PASSAGE IN SHEEP

The present experiment was carried out to investigate the effects of heat exposure on water metabolism and the passage of indigestible particles in sheep. Water intake, respiratory rate, rectal temperature and pH of ruminal fluid and urine were significantly higher (P<0.05) in the hot environment ($32\;^{\circ}C$) than in the control environment ($20\;^{\circ}C$). Urine osmolality and blood volume were increased, while glomerular filtration rate was decreased, in the hot environment. The liquid flow rate from reticulo-rumen and the excretion of indigestible particles of specific gravity 0.99 (but not 1.27 or 1.38) were increased in the hot environment. From these findings, it is suggested that an increased water intake evoked by heat exposure might affect the flow rate of digesta in sheep.

The composition and the annealing effect on the giant magnetoresistance of Co-Cu granular films fabricated by RF sputtering were investigated by TEM and NMR analysis. The maximum MR of 17% at 4.2K could be obtained at cobalt composition of 20 at%. From the TEM and NMR analysis, it has been found that the size of cobalt particles and the composition profile near the interfaces of cobalt particles are almost invariable with increase of cobalt concentration, while the interparticle distance decreases. Therefore, it could be concluded that the interparticle distance was mainly responsible for the existence of the maximum MR with respect to the cobalt composition in this system. According to the analysis of NMR spectrum, annealing of the films sharpened the composition profile of the interface between the cobalt particles and the copper matrix, which resulted in enhancement of the GMR values.
