A k-digit rational approximation of an irrational number is defined as the rational number with k digits in the numerator. The actual best k digit rational approximation is unique and is the true/absolute one. The best k - digit rational approximation, when it exists, obtained from the convergents of the continued fraction representation of an irrational number is also unique and need not be the same as the absolute one. The best k digit decimal number for the irrational number is also unique but is not the true best k - digit rational approximation, in general. We discuss here the quality implying error, the cost implying computational/time complexity, and scope implying a possible usage/application of the concerned three computational algorithms.
Reduction of noxious Cr(VI) ion to Cr(III) ion in aqueous solutions using H2O2 and UV/H2O2 systems

Conversion of the toxic Cr(VI) to the less toxic Cr(III) in aqueous solutions by chemical andphotochemical reduction was carried out using H2O2 and UV radiation. The whole mechanism was wellelucidated and investigated using potassium dichromate (K2Cr2O7) as a standard model compound. Theeffects of potential factors affecting the reduction efficiency were well studied and optimized, theoptimized parameters such as concentration of H2O2 (from 0.5 to 1.5 M), pH (from 5 to 9), irradiationtime (0 to 140 min) and reaction time (0 to 120 min). Initial concentration of Cr(VI) in the solution wasvaried from 0.1 to 15 mg/L plays a significant role in the mechanism involves for the reduction of noxiousCr(VI) to less toxic Cr(III).

We investigate some generalization of a class of Hankel-Clifford transformations having Fox H-function as part of its kernel on a class of Boehmians. The generalized transform is a one-to-one and onto mapping compatible with the classical transform. The inverse Hankel-Clifford transforms are also considered in the sense of Boehmians.

4[N-(furfural)amino]antipyrine semicarbazone(FFAAPS)와 질산 란탄(III)이 형성하는 배위화합물의 입체화학에 미치는 ${\alpha}$-, ${\beta}$- 및 ${\gamma}$-picolines의 영향을 연구하였다. 이들 배위화합물의 일반적 조성은 [Ln(FFAAPS)$(NO_3)_3$Pic] (Ln=La, Pr, Nd, Sm, Gd, Tb, Dy 또는 Ho 및 Pic=${\alpha}$-, ${\beta}$- or ${\gamma}$-picolines)이다. 모든 배위화합물은 원소분석, 분자량, 몰전기전도도, 자기수자율, 적외선 및 자외선 스펙트럼으로 특성을 조사하였다. 적외선 연구결과 FFAAPS는 N, N, O 주개를 갖는 중성 삼배위 리간드로 행동하는 반면, ${\alpha}$-, ${\beta}$- 또는 ${\gamma}$-picoline는 헤테로 N-원자를 통하여 란탄(III) 이온에 배위된다. 질산 음이온은 이들 화합물에서 이배위로 결합한다. 자외선 스펙트럼 결과로부터 전자구름 퍼짐 효과(${\beta}$), covalence factor($b^{1/2}$), Sinha parameter (${\delta}%$) 및 covalence angular overlap parameter(${\eta}$)를 계산하였다. 이들 착물의 열적성질을 열무게 분석법에 의해 연구하였다. 본 화합물에 있어서 란탄(III)의 배위수는 10으로 조사되었다. 기본 리간드인 FFAAPS와 착물의 항박테리아 선별조사 결과, 이들 착물은 중간 정도의 항박테리아 활성을 보였다. The effect of ${\alpha}$-, ${\beta}$- and ${\gamma}$-picolines on the stereochemistry of the coordination compounds of lanthanide(III) nitrates derived from 4[N-(furfural)amino]antipyrine semicarbazone (FFAAPS) has been studied. The general composition of the present coordination compounds is [Ln(FFAAPS)$(NO_3)_3$Pic] (Ln=La, Pr, Nd, Sm, Gd, Tb, Dy or Ho and Pic=${\alpha}$-, ${\beta}$- or ${\gamma}$-picolines). All these coordination compounds have been characterized by elemental analyses, molecular weight, molar conductance, magnetic susceptibility, infrared and electronic spectra. The infrared studies suggest that the FFAAPS behaves as a neutral tridentate ligand with N, N, O donor while ${\alpha}$-, ${\beta}$- or ${\gamma}$-picoline is coordinated to the lanthanide(III) ions via heterocyclic N-atom. Nitrates are bicovalently bonded in these compounds. From the electronic spectral data, nephelauxetic effect (${\beta}$), covalence factor ($b^{1/2}$), Sinha parameter (${\delta}%$) and the covalence angular overlap parameter (${\eta}$) have been calculated. Thermal stabilities of these complexes have been studied by thermogravimetric analysis. The coordination number of lanthanide(III) ions in the present compound is found to be ten. The antibacterial studies screening of the primary ligand FFAAPS and the complexes showed that the present complexes have moderate antibacterial activities.

Pulsed eddy current (PEC) testing is an electromagnetic nondestructive evaluation (NDE) technique which is used for detection and classification of flaws. This paper presents an approach for the extraction of novel timedomain flaw parameters viz. amplitude ratio (V1/V0) and time constant (τ) for detection and classification of different flaws. Experiments are carried out on stainless steel (SS-316) plate with artificial EDM notches whose width (1.0 mm & 3.0 mm) and depth (1.0 mm to 6.0 mm) varied. The proposed approach can classify both surface and sub-surface flaws in an 8.0 mm thick SS plate. The advantage of the proposed approach is that it doesn’t require a reference signal subtraction or signal processing methodologies for the detection and classification of flaws.
VLS-like growth and characterizations of dense ZnO nanorods grown by e-beam process

<P>We present a new approach to produce ZnO nanorods in a reproducible manner at a temperature lower than other physical vapour deposition techniques, such as the vapour–liquid–solid mechanism. Arrays of well-aligned ZnO nanorods of uniform diameter have been synthesized on the Si substrate precoated with Au, using a simple electron beam evaporation method without the flow of any carrier gas. Scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy characterizations show that as-grown nanorods are well aligned and uniform in diameter. X-ray diffraction measurements and clear lattice fringes in high-resolution transmission electron microscopy image show the growth of good quality polycrystalline hexagonal ZnO nanorods and a 〈0 0 2〉 growth direction. The polarization-dependent studies of near edge x-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) are performed to investigate the electronic structure of the zinc and oxygen ions. The analysis of NEXAFS spectra at different angles of incidence of photon flux indicates the formation of ZnO nanorods having anisotropic behaviour of O and Zn states. The photoluminescence spectrum exhibits strong ultraviolet emission at 385 nm and the UV–visible spectrum also shows a band-gap transition around 390 nm indicating the good quality of nanorods. The catalytic growth mechanism of the ZnO nanorods is discussed on the basis of experimental results in this work.</P>

Aims: Sustained virologic response (SVR) after interferon (IFN)-based treatment for HCV infection is associated with reduced risk of hepatocellular cancer (HCC), although the risk is not eliminated. Less is known regarding the risk of de novo HCC following SVR with IFN-free direct acting antiviral (DAA) therapy. In this analysis, a review of incident HCC in patients treated with SOF-containing regimens was performed. Methods: Data from Gilead HCV clinical trials (from treatment start to 24 weeks post-treatment) and registry studies (3 to 5 year follow-up observation) were analyzed to evaluate the incidence of de novo HCC. The clinical database was searched to identify adverse events of liver tumors; the occurrence of HCC is recorded at each visit in the registry studies. Incidence rates and exposure-adjusted incidence rates, time to development, and risk factors for development of HCC were assessed in patients with and without cirrhosis (compensated and decompensated) who received IFN- containing (Peg- IFN+RBV±SOF) vs IFN-free treatment (SOF, ledipasvir/SOF, SOF/velpatasvir ± RBV), and SVR vs no SVR. Results: In the clinical trial database, 0.3% (36 of 13,525) patients had AEs of HCC or suspected HCC while in the registry study database, 0.5% (33 of 6675) were reported to have HCC. The rate was similar in non-cirrhotic patients who achieved SVR with an IFN-containing vs IFN-free regimen (0.09 vs 0.03 per 100 patient years of follow-up, respectively); few patients with compensated cirrhosis and none with decompensated cirrhosis received IFN-containing regimens. Among subjects treated with IFN-free regimens, higher rates were observed with advanced liver disease and non SVR (see table). Conclusions: Data from the Gilead clinical trial and registry study databases show incidence of HCC in subjects treated with IFN-free regimens is similar to that reported in the IFN-era in similar populations. While SVR significantly reduces the risk of HCC, the risk is not completely eliminated, particularly among patients with decompensated cirrhosis.
