FROM BEAUTY PREMIUM TO BEAUTY PENALTY: ROLE OF EMOTIONAL EVALUATION UNDER PRODUCT FAILURE

Visually superior design provides a competitive edge in the marketplace by attracting consumers and increasing the perceived value of product quality and functionality. Although the positive influences of visual product design on market performance are well documented in the literature, little is investigated on how visual design plays a role in a negative situation such as product failure. The positive halo effect of visual design on product evaluation is called ‘beauty premium’, while little is investigated on how beauty premium changes when consumers face product failure. For example, would the beauty premium continue or fire back when a product with superior design, called a ‘beauty’ in this study, has functional harm? To answer this inquiry, we focus on the following research questions 1) Would the beauty effect protect or damage consumer purchase intention and product sales after product failure, and 2) Under what conditions can beauty effects be positive or negative after product failure?

This study proposes a method of predicting impact acceleration, at pedestrians' medial knees, more accurately in low-speed collisions. For this, the roles of the prime movers are included in the low extremities by applying muscle activations to a finite element (FE) human model. For low-speed collision experiments, between a car bumper and a pedestrian, were performed using a custom designed sled to obtain the sequence and degree of muscle activations in the low extremities, and impact accelerations at the medial knees of the subjects. More analyses were performed at the impact velocity of 5 and 10 ㎞/hour in order to further understand the effects of the muscle activations on the impact accelerations at the medial knee joint. At the lowest impact speed, the reduction of peak impact acceleration was 20 % when the result with muscle activations was compared to that without muscle activations. The amount of reduction was decreased to 12 % at the impact speed of 5 ㎞/hour. As the impact speed was increased to 10 ㎞/hour, the amount of reduction was insignificant but still existed to as much as 3 %. Therefore, it was suggested that the muscle activations in the lower limbs, to a pedestrian-vehicle collision analysis, are important to accurately predict the impact acceleration and possible injury mechanisms of the knee when the impact velocity is lower than 10 ㎞/hour.
Gender Differences in Lower Limb Biomechanics During Stair Ascent in Young Subjects

he aim of this study was to investigate gender differences in the biomechanics of lower limb joints during stair ascent, focusing on the distribution of joint loads. Thirty-six young subjects (18 males and 18 females) ascended instrumented stairs while kinematic and kinetic data were measured. Mechanical variables of the lower limb joints and body posture on the sagittal plane were compared between genders, and their associations were also investigated. Female subjects exerted more mechanical work, power, and joint moment than male subjects at the knee joint, while males exerted more at the hip joint. Females and males showed a longer moment arm of ground reaction force at the knee and hip joints, respectively. The moment arm, but not the magnitude, of ground reaction force was strongly associated with the joint moment (r = 0.80–0.97). Females exhibited a more crouched stance limb (lower heel lift, greater ankle dorsiflexion, and knee flexion) than males. A more crouched and extended lower limb posture was found to be correlated with a longer moment arm at the knee and hip joints, respectively. Half of the variance in moment arm could be explained by the heel lift angle. The results indicate that females allocate greater work to the knee joint but less to the hip joint than males do in order to elevate body mass to a higher step during stair ascent. The work distribution strategy appears to be influenced significantly by posture, particularly the choice of foot contact method: heel-toe standing in females and toe standing in males.

For transfemoral amputees, it is very important to recover their lost functions. Myoplasty, which is one of above-knee amputation methods that sutures muscles on the femoral stump, is used more commonly than other operation methods because it is superior in muscle setting and appearance. Myodesis fixes femora' stump muscles onto the femur. For these different operation methods, there have been controversies over which is better due to lack of scientific analysis. Thus, the present study applied electric stimulation to the tibial muscle of dogs in vivo and in situ and measured the dynamic physical characteristics of the muscle after making the dogs do isokinetic exercise in the state of full activation. In addition, we performed tension experiment with the dogs’ medial tibialis cranicalis muscle and tendon to examine the kinetic characteristics.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among Job Environment, Organizational Commitment and Job Performance of hotel company. For the purpose of study, 250 survey questionnaires were distributed among the employees who are working for hotel company from 12th Oct, 2020 to 31th Oct, 2020. Lastly 235 samples were put to actual analysis by using SPSS Win 26. The results of the study are as follows. First, the job environment which are consist of human environment, welfare environment and physical environment had significant effects on organizational commitment. Second, the job environment which are consist of human environment, welfare environment had significant effects on job performance. Lastly, the organizational commitment had significant affect on job performance. As employees perceive the working environment positively, the better their job performance. Therefore, hotel corporates should make various efforts to expand the range of positive perceptions by actively communicating with employees through various channels.

Background: Grid fractional radiofrequency (GFR), fractional radiofrequency microneedle (FRM) and high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) have each specific mechanism for skin rejuvenation. Nasolabial fold wrinkles can be treated by applying consecutive sessions of three modalities. Objectives: To evaluate the clinical efficacy of the combined treatment of nasolabial fold wrinkles in Asians. Methods: This was a prospective study that enrolled twenty subjects with moderate nasolabial fold wrinkles. Subjects visited the clinic every four weeks for a total of three treatment sessions. Subjects received a combination therapy of GFR, FRM, and HIFU. Evaluation included medical photographs and satisfaction questionnaires. Two dermatologists evaluated the clinical photographs using the modified Fitzpatrick wrinkle scale (mFWS). Results: A total of eighteen subjects were assessed. The median age was 56.5 (Range 49-64). mFWS showed an improved score of 1.0 (IQR 0.5-1.375) at twenty weeks compared to a baseline score of 1.5 (IQR 1-1.875). (p <0.005) Six subjects (33 %) reported more than moderate improvement at twentieth week. There were no long-term complications associated with the treatment. Conclusion: This study was the first of its kind to use a triple combined therapy for the treatment of skin wrinkles. The results demonstrated the efficacy and safety of the combination therapy on nasolabial fold wrinkles.

Background: Onycholysis is the detachment of the nail plate from the nail bed that occurs at distal portion of nail plate. It is commonly associated with psoriasis, lichen planus, onychomycosis, trauma and wet work. Objectives: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the clinical efficacy of 1064-nm picosecond domain Nd:YAG (P-Nd:YAG) and cryotherapy on patients with onycholysis. Methods: Retrospective chart reviews and photographic analyses were performed. Nail plate and matrix lesions were irradiated with P-Nd:YAG laser. Nail bed and hyponychium lesions showing subungual hyperkeratosis were treated with cryotherapy. Clinical improvement was assessed by two blinded physicians using 5-point global assessment scale. Results: Three patients (all females, mean age 47.0±9.5 years) were analyzed. A total of 28 nails, consisting of 22 finger nails and 6 toe nails, were treated with P-Nd:YAG and cryotherapy. Three patients received both modes of treatment simultaneously. The mean treatment interval was 18.1±3.6 days. The mean treatment session was 4.0. After receiving the combined P-Nd:YAG and cryotherapy, all Three patients (100 %) showed more than 50% improvement. There were no serious adverse events associated with the treatment during follow-up period. Conclusion: Concurrent P-Nd:YAG and cryotherapy can be an effective and safe treatment choice for refractory onycholysis.
