Design of Memory-Access-Effective H.264 Intra Predictor Integrated with Motion Compensator

In H.264 decoder, intra prediction is a powerful tool for higher compression efficiency from correlation removal of adjacent samples in spatial domain. Therefore, intra predictor requires reference images for adjacent samples. Also, motion compensator and deblocking filter require reference images stored in external memory. They read external frame memory very frequently. Thus, H.264 decoder suffers from frequent memory access. This paper proposes an intra predictor integrated with motion compensator without external frame memory. It was synthesized in 0.18 ㎛ standard cell library. The total gate count, the maximum operating frequency, and the maximum throughput are about 284K gates, 108㎒, CIF 30 fps, respectively.

<P>Although the selection of a construction method for each type of work is an important factor in determining the quality of a building, the construction duration, costs, and methods are currently being selected according to the subjective judgment of the person in charge, without sufficient consideration of the characteristics of the work type. As a response to this issue, this study proposes a process model to support decision making when selecting the most suitable construction method for major types of construction work. The study used the risk response level model, which connects the conditions of the order and the site, the constructability of the type of work within the site, a review of the economic efficiency of the work site, the forced-decision method, and binary weighting analysis in the construction planning phase. As a result of the application of this model to the construction method selection process for the construction of soil-retaining walls, the factors to be preferably considered in the field cases were analyzed in the order of the environmental, ground, design, construction, structural, and site conditions. Further, the risk response level of each construction method was calculated via risk response level analysis, subject to four applicable construction methods.</P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The extent of subsurface damage on (0001) GaN wafers post different polishing treatments was quantified using depth-resolved cathodoluminescence spectroscopy (DRCLS). The band edge emission spectra were obtained from CLS with different electron energies, which manifested a significant non-radiative recombination resulted from polishing-induced subsurface damage. Cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy (XTEM) was also used to diagnose the extent of the subsurface damage layer. For the GaN polished with 1.00 and 0.25 μm diamonds abrasive, the extent of non-radiative subsurface damage is about 250 and 100 nm, corresponding to the calculated electron penetration depth at the accelerating voltage for the onset of band edge emission. In this study, the depth of subsurface damage estimated from CL spectra compared well with direct XTEM measurements in GaN substrate.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Subsurface polishing defects of bulk gallium nitride substrates have been studied. </LI> <LI> Estimated the subsurface damage depth. </LI> <LI> The subsurface damage defects are due to plastic deformation and are non-radiative. </LI> </UL> </P>

This paper proposes a memory-access-effective and power-consumption-effective H.264 decoder for mobile multimedia applications. To reduce area and power, the proposed H.264 decoder is designed and implemented in fully hardwired architecture. The variable length decoder is implemented without embedded processors, and the common input buffer is used between CAVLC decoder and exp-Golomb decoder. In the deblocking filter, filtering can be skipped on several pixels when some skipping conditions meet. Furthermore, to minimize memory access, intra predictor is merged with motion compensator exploiting internal buffer instead of external memory access.

In this paper, a double lorentz composite right left handed(DL-CRLH) transmission line is designed using defected ground structure (DGS) and varactor diodes. Previously, the diode has been adopted only selectively for one of parallel or series resonators, and the balanced frequency as well as triple band frequencies were fixed. However in the proposed DL-CRLH transmission line, the balanced frequency, where the resonant frequencies of the series-connected parallel resonator and shunt-connected series resonator are the same, is adjustable. In addition, the triple band frequencies are controlled, too. The measured balanced frequency varies between 3.42∼4.8㎓ according to the controlled bias voltage. Under the same bias condition for the balanced frequency, the adjusted frequencies are 2.22∼2.77GHz, 3.7∼5.2㎓, 7.32∼8.23㎓, 3.42∼4.8㎓, and 4.44∼5.92㎓ for the conditions that βd=+0.5π, -0.5π, 2nd +0.5π, ω∞, and ωo, respectively.

This paper describes a design of dual band balanced amplifier using a lefted handed meta-material transmission line structure for high frequency application. Meta-material transmission lines have been known to have dual band frequency responses. A dual band branch line hybrid coupler is designed using the meta-material transmission lines, and measured at first. Two identical dual band amplifiers are also designed, built and tested using the same meta-material transmission structure. The proposed dual band balanced amplifier is composed of those dual band branch line hybrid coupler and amplifiers. In order to suggest an design example, a prototype of dual band balanced amplifier is built and measured at the dual frequencies, 1800㎒(f₁) and 2300㎒(f₂). The simulation and measurement show that the fabricated balanced amplifier operates well at the desired dual frequencies bands with the gain of 11.12㏈ and 17.67㏈ at f₁ and f₂, respectively, with a good agreement with the simulation results.

This paper describes a design of dual band amplifier using left handed (LHJ) transmission line, which is a part of composite right/left handed (CRLH) transmission line. It is well known that CRLH transmission lines show dual band frequency response. At first, two single-band amplifiers for frequency f1 and f2 are designed, and their matching networks at both amplifiers are synthesized into the dual band matching network by adopting CRLH structure. As an example for proving the validity of the proposed design, a dual band amplifier operating at 1800㎒ and 2300㎒ is designed, fabricated and measured. The simulation and measurement show that the proposed amplifier operates well at the desired dual bands with the gain of 13.65㏈ and 19㏈ at 1850㎒ and 2360㎒, respectively, and a good matching performances. In addition, a quite good agreement between the simulation and measurement is observed.

In this paper, a design of size reduced amplifier using asymmetric spiral defected ground structure is described. The asymmetric spiral defected ground structure contributes to size reduction and improved performances of the amplifier. In addition, it contains the rejection characteristics for the second and third harmonic frequencies, so the matching network of the amplifier rejects the harmonic components inherently without an additional attempt. The designed amplifier matching networks has smaller size by 15mm before size reduction. The size-reduced amplifier is fabricated and measured. An excellent improvement in output power and power added efficiency is observed while the gain and matching performances are maintained. Additionally, the second and third harmonics are suppressed by more than 10dB and 15dB at least, respectively, than the basic amplifier.
