<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Titanium nitride (TiN) - graphene (G) nanocomposites are promising for electrochemical charge storage where a high content of Ti species is desired. Herein, we propose an effective method for the preparation of TiN-G nanocomposites with a high concentration of Ti species. These nanocomposites can be successfully achieved through a further deposition of Ti on Ti-graphene oxide (GO) or a thermally exfoliated Ti-GO. Depending on the annealing condition employed (NH<SUB>3</SUB> and N<SUB>2</SUB>), two types of TiN-G nanocomposites (NH<SUB>3</SUB> annealing for TiN/G and TiN/G-TE, TE: thermal exfoliation) and a TiO<SUB>2</SUB>-G nanocomposite (N<SUB>2</SUB> annealing for TiO<SUB>2</SUB>/G-TE) were prepared. These nanocomposites were then investigated for potential application as an electrochemical supercapacitor. Compare with TiO<SUB>2</SUB>/G-TE, the TiN-G nanocomposites both exhibited a higher specific capacitance, although one of these nanocomposites had a lower surface area than TiO<SUB>2</SUB>/G-TE. Among the nanocomposites prepared, TiN/G-TE delivered the best electrochemical performance. The relationship between the physical properties and the capacitive performance of the nanocomposites were systematically evaluated.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Efficient preparation of TiN-Graphene (TiN/G) nanocomposites was suggested. </LI> <LI> Thermal exfoliation of GO was effective for achieving high Ti contents. </LI> <LI> Better electrochemical performance of TiN/G compared with TiO2/G. </LI> </UL> </P>
Progress in development of the KSTAR Thomson scattering system

<P>The design of Thomson scattering system for the Korean Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research (KSTAR) device is described. The system includes a laser beam guiding system, laser input port, laser beam dump, collection lens, shutter, and cassette system. The laser guiding system has a collimating lens set for reducing the laser power loss. The laser beam dump will be attached inside of the vacuum vessel and hence it has been designed compactly. The preliminary design of collection lens, shutter system, and the cassette were done by PPPL and the engineering design is being executed by NFRI. The collection lens system has two sets of lenses, one set is designed for the core and the other set is designed for the edge. Two sets of pneumatic shutter systems are designed for independent remote control. Most of the KSTAR Thomson scattering system design is already finished and we are planning to install the whole system by March, 2010. We will measure the plasma parameters (T<SUB>e</SUB>, n<SUB>e</SUB>) in KSTAR during the third campaign.</P>
Application of Ground Penetrating Radar to Construction Engineering Problem-defining

GPR(ground penetrating radar) finds more and more applications in the recent construction business. It is mostly because the equipment has good portability rather than other non-destructive survey equipments and takes few time to identify the responce from beneath the surface. Furthermore, recent social trend emphasizing citizen's safety and and the government's drive for it due to recent outbreaks of sink-holes in the downtown area enhanced the application of GPR faster and broader. One can find the anology of the GPR survey to the medical examinations where national health insurance secures the cost. As in medical practices, important appproach in problem solving in construction engineering is defining problem properly. GPR survey is one of essential survey method to do this and several cases of proper problem solving is shown on this paper.
Suicide and Suicide Prevention Awareness in Korea During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Objective Owing to prolonged social distancing and the resultant isolation, the prevalence of depression and suicidality has increased during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study aimed to investigate the severity of depression and suicidality in Korean community populations and examine their awareness of suicide and suicide prevention during the pandemic.Methods This study surveyed a community population in 2020 and 2021, involving 668 participants. We evaluated the severity of depression and suicidality using the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 and Beck Scale for Suicidal Ideation as well as questions about awareness of suicide. We performed a correlation analysis to confirm the association between variables, and compared participants’ suicide awareness according to the severity of depression.Results The severity of depression and suicidality in the community population decreased in 2021 compared to 2020. Awareness of the importance of suicide prevention increased in 2021, but the percentage reporting that it is possible decreased slightly. The group with higher depressive symptoms reported a lower possibility of suicide prevention.Conclusion Increasing social interest in suicide, as well as awareness of suicide prevention, is important for reducing suicide rates. Suicide prevention campaigns, education, and social policies are needed, particularly during the pandemic.

Obesity is a complex disease affecting whole body metabolism associated with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and increased the risk factors of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Chronic inflammatory state in obesity is a central mechanism for developing endothelial dysfunction in obesity. Exercise is an effective modality to reduce many factors contributing to obesity-induced endothelial dysfunction. However, the anti-inflammatory actions of exercise in different vascular beds still remain unclear. This review will focus on current literature and provide putative mechanisms by which exercise protects against altered vascular function in obesity.
