        This study investigated the relationship between self-esteem, perceived competence and participation of masters swimming. Participants(N=322) were randomly selected from masters swimming program of swimming pool in seoul and Kyung-Kee. Results indicated that the meaning significant found the representation of duration of contingencies and participation of swimming competition in masters swimming. In sum, firstly, in the participation of masters swimming, every time participation in swimming competition assigned greater than the other participant to perceived competence, and in duration of contingencies of participation, 4-7 years participation group assigned greater than the order participant group to perceived competence. Secondly, in the participation of masters swimming, every time participation in swimming competition assigned greater than the other participant to self-esteem, and in duration of contingencies of participation, 2-4 years participation group assigned greater than the participant group to self-esteem. Thirdly, in the participation of masters swimming, perceived competence is postitively influence on self-esteem.

        찰옥수수연구 XVIII 시설하우스에서 2기작 찰옥수수 교잡종의 주요 생육특성 비교

        The major characteristics of the developed corn hybrids were compared at each different planting time; 1st time(April 28) and 2nd time(August 20), respectively. Among traits surveyed, stem height showed highly at 1st time than 2nd, while ear height, stem diameter and ear length were similar at two times. Sugar content of the used hybrids showed highly at 2nd planting time than 1st. Pericarp thickness was also high at 2nd planting time. Especially, among hybrids CNU99 was the highest in stem height and ear length, CNU11 and CNU56 were high in sugar content, and CNU51 and CNU124 were thiner than other hybrids in pericarp thickness. Accordingly, these hybrids will be planted and recognized in 2nd yield trial for superior corn hybrid selection.

        國際原子力機構가 主管하는 第4年次 水稻施肥에 關한 國際的 共同硏究가 1965년에 12個國, 16個所에서 ^15N ^32P를 利用하여 窒素 및 燐?質肥料의 施容方法의 差異가 水稻의 肥料吸收利用率에 미치는 各各의 影響 및 이들 相互間의 交互作用을 밝히고자 實施된 바 그중 우리나라의 試驗結果를 要約하면 다음과 같다. 1. 窒素質肥料(硫安)의 吸收利用率은 地中 5cm 깊이에 條施하는 경우 약 50%이며, 表面施用하는 것보다 약 10%程度 利用率이 높았다. 2. 硫安과 過石의 混合施用은 窒素의 吸收利用率에는 影響을 미치지 않았으나, 燐?의 吸收利用率에 대해서는 施用部位에 따라 多少間 交互作用을 보였다. 3. 水稻에 대한 隣酸質肥料의 效用은 他國에 比해 極히 낮았으며, 施肥方法에 있어서는 表面施用이 多少 肥效가 높았다. 4. 本試驗의 結果는 他國에서 이루어진 結果와 거의 비슷한 傾向을 보였으며, 大體로 外的 榮養生長量에는 顯著한 差異가 없었으나 水量에는 差異가 認定되고 이것은 同位元素分析結果와 거의 一致하였다. As a part of the fourth Coordinated Rice Fertilization Research Programme supervised by the Joint FAO/IAEA Division, a field experiment using ^15N and ^32P carried out in Korea in 1955 to determine the efficiency of nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizer applied to lowland rice as affected by placement, and their interaction. The results are summarized as follows: 1. Shallw placement of ammonium sulphate at 5cm depth was more efficient than placement on the surface with the about 10%higher utilization value. 2. The mixing of phosphorus with nitrogen had no effect on the uptake of nitrogen, whereas phosphorus uptake slightly interacted with the application method of nitrogen with phosphorus. 3. The response of the rice plant to the application method of superphosphate was very small comparing with that of other countries, but the efficiency of phosphorus can be increased to some extent by its broadcasting on the surface. 4. The results obtained in Korea were well consistent with that of other countries. However, dry matter production during vegetative growth could not be served as the criteria for the determination of fertilizer efficiency, especially for the phosphorus uptake. However, apparant differences in the fertilizer uptake could be observed through the isotopic analysis, and this analytical results were in harmony with the treatmental differences in grain yield. It may recall us the unique value of isotopic techniques.

        Aberrant Expression of COT Is Related to Recurrence of Papillary Thyroid Cancer

        <▼1><P>Supplemental Digital Content is available in the text</P></▼1><▼2><P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Aberrant expression of Cancer Osaka Thyroid Oncogene mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase kinase 8 (COT) (MAP3K8) is a driver of resistance to B-RAF inhibition. However, the de novo expression and clinical implications of COT in papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) have not been investigated.</P><P>The aim of this study is to investigate the expression of A-, B-, C-RAF, and COT in PTC (n = 167) and analyze the clinical implications of aberrant expression of these genes.</P><P>Quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) and immunohistochemical staining (IHC) were performed on primary thyroid cancers. Expression of COT was compared with clinicopathological characteristics including recurrence-free survival. Datasets from public repository (NCBI) were subjected to Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA).</P><P>qPCR data showed that the relative mRNA expression of <I>A-</I>, <I>B-</I>, <I>C-RAF</I> and <I>COT</I> of PTC were higher than normal tissues (all <I>P</I> < 0.01). In addition, the expression of COT mRNA in PTC showed positive correlation with A- (<I>r</I> = 0.4083, <I>P</I> < 0.001), B- (<I>r</I> = 0.2773, <I>P</I> = 0.0003), and C-RAF (<I>r</I> = 0.5954, <I>P</I> < 0.001). The mRNA expressions of A-, B,- and C-RAF were also correlated with each other (all <I>P</I> < 0.001). In IHC, the staining intensities of B-RAF and COT were higher in PTC than in normal tissue (<I>P</I> < 0.001). Interestingly, moderate-to-strong staining intensities of B-RAF and COT were more frequent in B-RAF<SUP>V600E</SUP>-positive PTC (<I>P</I> < 0.001, <I>P</I> = 0.013, respectively). In addition, aberrant expression of COT was related to old age at initial diagnosis (<I>P</I> = 0.045) and higher recurrence rate (<I>P</I> = 0.025). In multivariate analysis, tumor recurrence was persistently associated with moderate-to-strong staining of COT after adjusting for age, sex, extrathyroidal extension, multifocality, T-stage, N-stage, TNM stage, and B-RAF<SUP>V600E</SUP> mutation (odds ratio, 4.662; 95% confidence interval 1.066 − 21.609; <I>P</I> = 0.045). Moreover, moderate-to-strong COT expression in PTC was associated with shorter recurrence-free survival (mean follow-up duration, 14.2 ± 4.1 years; <I>P</I> = 0.0403). GSEA indicated that gene sets related to B-RAF-RAS (<I>P</I> < 0.0001, false discovery rate [FDR] <I>q</I>-value = 0.000) and thyroid differentiation (<I>P</I> = 0.048, FDR <I>q</I>-value = 0.05) scores were enriched in lower COT expression group and gene sets such as T-cell receptor signaling pathway and Toll-like receptor signaling pathway are coordinately upregulated in higher COT expression group (both, <I>P</I> < 0.0001, FDR <I>q</I>-value = 0.000).</P><P>Aberrant expression of A-, B-, and C-RAF, and COT is frequent in PTC; increased expression of COT is correlated with recurrence of PTC.</P></▼2>

        A Study on the Chemisorption of Carbon Monoxide on Silica-Supported Rhodium

        We have investigated the infrared absorption spectra for carbon monoxide chemisorbed on reduced and oxidized Rh/$SiO_2$ with and without potassium coating within the frequency range of 1800-2200 $cm^{-1}$ at various Rh concentrations, CO pressures, and temperatures. In case of no potassium coating, only two bands at 2070 and 1900 $cm^{-1}$ appeared for CO adsorbed on reduced Rh/$SiO_2$ while for oxidized Rh/$SiO_2$ four bands were found at 2100, 2070, 2040, and 1900 $cm^{-1}$. We have successfully tried to explain the differences between our observations and those by other investigators who used the Rh/$Al_2O_3$ system instead of Rh/$SiO_2$ on the basis of the suggestions by Yates et al. Accordingly, we propose that the surface OH groups are deeply involved in producing the $Rh^{+1}$ sites which are responsible for the gem-dicarbonyl species. On coating with potassium all the IR bands for three carbonyl species were found to suffer red shift, the magnitude of which increased with increasing Rh/CO ratio.

        <P>Stability of polymer solar cells (PSCs) is critically important for PSCs to be commercialized. The performance deterioration of PSCs arises mainly from macrophase separation of the finely tuned nanoscale morphology of donor–acceptor blends, photo-degradation of active layer materials, and oxidative degradation of donor polymers due to diffusion of oxygen and water molecules from the interlayer/electrode.       • Optimal Cut-Off Values of Lymph Node Ratio Predicting Recurrence in Papillary Thyroid Cancer

        <▼1><P>Supplemental Digital Content is available in the text</P></▼1><▼2><P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Regional lymph node (LN) metastasis has a significant impact for prediction of recurrence in patients with papillary thyroid cancers (PTC); however, the prognostic value of the lymph node ratio (LNR), which is defined as the ratio of the number of metastatic LNs to the total number of investigated LNs, is controversial. In this study, we determined the optimal cut-off values of LNRs for the prediction of recurrence in PTC patients.</P><P>This large cohort study retrospectively evaluated 2294 patients who had undergone total thyroidectomy for PTC at a single institution from October 1985 to June 2009. The prediction probability of central LNR (cLNR, level VI) and total LNR (tLNR, levels II–VI) were estimated by binominal logistic regression analysis. Hazard ratios of the cut-off LNR values for cancer recurrence were calculated for relevant covariates using multivariate Cox regression analyses. Kaplan–Meier analyses were also utilized to assess the effects of estimated LNR cut-off values on recurrence-free survival (RFS).</P><P>Of the 2294 patients, 138 (6.0%) presented cancer recurrence during the follow-up period (median duration = 107.1 months). The prediction probability indicated that LNRs of 0.4 and 0.5 for central LN and total LN, respectively, are optimal cut-off values for precise prediction with minimization of outliers. Multivariate Cox regression analyses revealed that cLNR ≥0.4 was independently predictive of recurrence in patients with N0 and N1a PTCs (hazard ratio [HR]: 7.016, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 3.72–12.986, <I>P</I> < 0.001) and that tLNR ≥0.5 indicated a significantly increased risk of recurrence in patients with N1b PTCs (HR: 2.372, 95% CI: 1.458–3.860, <I>P</I> < 0.001). In addition, Kaplan–Meier analyses clearly demonstrated that these LNR cut-off values are precisely operational in RFS estimation.</P><P>The cut-off LNR values of 0.4 and 0.5 for cLNR and tLNR, respectively, were identified. Risk stratification combined with these LNR cut-off values may prove useful to determine treatment and follow-up strategies for PTC patients.</P></▼2>
