Antibody-conjugated gold nanoparticles as nanotransducers for second near-infrared photo-stimulation of neurons in rats

        Liu Jiansheng,Li Jiajia,Zhang Shu,Ding Mengbin,Yu Ningyue,Li Jingchao,Wang Xiuhui,Li Zhaohui 나노기술연구협의회 2022 Nano Convergence Vol.9 No.13

Infrared neural stimulation with the assistance of photothermal transducers holds great promise as a mini-invasive neural modulation modality. Optical nanoparticles with the absorption in the near-infrared (NIR) window have emerged as excellent photothermal transducers due to their good biocompatibility, surface modifiability, and tunable optical absorption. However, poor activation efficiency and limited stimulation depth are main predicaments encountered in the neural stimulation mediated by these nanoparticles. In this study, we prepared a targeted polydopamine (PDA)-coated gold (Au) nanoparticles with specific binding to thermo-sensitive ion channel as nanotransducers for second near-infrared (NIR-II) photo-stimulation of neurons in rats. The targeted Au nanoparticles were constructed via conjugation of anti-TRPV1 antibody with PEGylated PDA-coated Au nanoparticles and thus exhibited potent photothermal performance property in the second NIR (NIR-II) window and converted NIR-II light to heat to rapidly activate Ca 2+ influx of neurons in vitro. Furthermore, wireless photothermal stimulation of neurons in living rat successfully evoke excitation in neurons in the targeted brain region as deep as 5 mm beneath cortex. This study thus demonstrates a remote-controlled strategy for neuromodulation using photothermal nanotransducers.

Automated assessment of cracks on concrete surfaces using adaptive digital image processing

        Liu, Yufei,Cho, Soojin,Spencer, Billie F. Jr,Fan, Jiansheng Techno-Press 2014 Smart Structures and Systems, An International Jou Vol.14 No.4

Monitoring surface cracks is important to ensure the health of concrete structures. However, traditional visual inspection to monitor the concrete cracks has disadvantages such as subjective inspection nature, associated time and cost, and possible danger to inspectors. To alter the visual inspection, a complete procedure for automated crack assessment based on adaptive digital image processing has been proposed in this study. Crack objects are extracted from the images using the subtraction with median filter and the local binarization using the Niblack's method. To adaptively. determine the optimal window sizes for the median filter and the Niblack's method without distortion of crack object an optimal filter size index (OFSI) is proposed. From the extracted crack objects using the optimal size of window, the crack objects are decomposed to the crack skeletons and edges, and the crack width is calculated using 4-connected normal line according to the orientation of the local skeleton line. For an image, a crack width nephogram is obtained to have an intuitive view of the crack distribution. The proposed procedure is verified from a test on a concrete reaction wall with various types of cracks. From the crack images with different crack widths and patterns, the widths of cracks in the order of submillimeters are calculated with high accuracy.

Sensor fusion for structural tilt estimation using an acceleration-based tilt sensor and a gyroscope

        Liu, Cheng,Park, Jong-Woong,Spencer Jr, B F,Moon, Do-Soo,Fan, Jiansheng Institute of Physics Publishing 2017 Smart materials & structures Vol.26 No.10

<P>A tilt sensor can provide useful information regarding the health of structural systems. Most existing tilt sensors are gravity/acceleration based and can provide accurate measurements of static responses. However, for dynamic tilt, acceleration can dramatically affect the measured responses due to crosstalk. Thus, dynamic tilt measurement is still a challenging problem. One option is to integrate the output of a gyroscope sensor, which measures the angular velocity, to obtain the tilt; however, problems arise because the low-frequency sensitivity of the gyroscope is poor. This paper proposes a new approach to dynamic tilt measurements, fusing together information from a MEMS-based gyroscope and an acceleration-based tilt sensor. The gyroscope provides good estimates of the tilt at higher frequencies, whereas the acceleration measurements are used to estimate the tilt at lower frequencies. The Tikhonov regularization approach is employed to fuse these measurements together and overcome the ill-posed nature of the problem. The solution is carried out in the frequency domain and then implemented in the time domain using FIR filters to ensure stability. The proposed method is validated numerically and experimentally to show that it performs well in estimating both the pseudo-static and dynamic tilt measurements.</P>

Transcriptome Analysis Reveals the Putative Polyketide Synthase Gene Involved in Hispidin Biosynthesis in Sanghuangporus sanghuang

        Jiansheng Wei,Liangyan Liu,Xiaolong Yuan,Dong Wang,Xinyue Wang,Wei Bi,Yan Yang,Yi Wang 한국균학회 2023 Mycobiology Vol.51 No.5

Hispidin is an important styrylpyrone produced by Sanghuangporus sanghuang. To analyzehispidin biosynthesis in S. sanghuang, the transcriptomes of hispidin-producing and non-producingS. sanghuang were determined by Illumina sequencing. Five PKSs were identifiedusing genome annotation. Comparative analysis with the reference transcriptome showedthat two PKSs (ShPKS3 and ShPKS4) had low expression levels in four types of media. Thegene expression pattern of only ShPKS1 was consistent with the yield variation of hispidin. The combined analyses of gene expression with qPCR and hispidin detection by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry coupled with ion-trap and time-of-flight technologies(LCMS-IT-TOF) showed that ShPKS1 was involved in hispidin biosynthesis in S. sanghuang. ShPKS1 is a partially reducing PKS gene with extra AMP and ACP domains before the KSdomain. The domain architecture of ShPKS1 was AMP-ACP-KS-AT-DH-KR-ACP-ACP. Phylogenetic analysis shows that ShPKS1 and other PKS genes from Hymenochaetaceaeform a unique monophyletic clade closely related to the clade containing Agaricales hispidinsynthase. Taken together, our data indicate that ShPKS1 is a novel PKS of S. sanghuanginvolved in hispidin biosynthesis.

Corrosion Cracking Process of Reinforced Concrete under the Coupled Effects of Chloride and Fatigue Loading

        Jiansheng Shen,Junzhe Liu,Yidong Xu,Kanghao Jia,Fangyu Wu,Wei Chen,Dayong Zhu 대한토목학회 2021 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.25 No.9

To study the corrosion cracking process of reinforced concrete under the combined effects of chloride and fatigue loading, the constan-current and dry-wet cycle accelerated corrosion method was used to corrosion the specimens under different stress levels for different time. The quality loss of reinforcement, the composition of corrosion products and the cracking of concrete are analyzed from the macro, micro and micro scales, and to obtain the spatial distribution as well as microscopic characteristics of corrosion products of the reinforcement bar under coupling conditions. Additionally, a model of steel rust cracking under the coupled action of chloride and fatigue loading is established. The results show that: under the same corrosion time, the concrete cracking and steel corrosion degree become more serious with the increase of stress level. The greater the stress level, the earlier corrosion occurs and the more corrosion products are, Moreover, due to the fatigue load, the concrete on the upper side of the steel bar has rust expansion cracks earlier than the lower side.

BINDING NUMBER AND HAMILTONIAN (g, f)-FACTORS IN GRAPHS

Cai, Jiansheng,Liu, Guizhen 한국전산응용수학회 2007 Journal of applied mathematics & informatics Vol.25 No.1

A (g, f)-factor F of a graph G is Called a Hamiltonian (g, f)-factor if F contains a Hamiltonian cycle. The binding number of G is defined by $bind(G)\;=\;{min}\;\{\;{\frac{{\mid}N_GX{\mid}}{{\mid}X{\mid}}}\;{\mid}\;{\emptyset}\;{\neq}\;X\;{\subset}\;V(G)},\;{N_G(X)\;{\neq}\;V(G)}\;\}$. Let G be a connected graph, and let a and b be integers such that $4\;{\leq}\;a\;<\;b$. Let g, f be positive integer-valued functions defined on V(G) such that $a\;{\leq}\;g(x)\;<\;f(x)\;{\leq}\;b$ for every $x\;{\in}\;V(G)$. In this paper, it is proved that if $bind(G)\;{\geq}\;{\frac{(a+b-5)(n-1)}{(a-2)n-3(a+b-5)},}\;{\nu}(G)\;{\geq}\;{\frac{(a+b-5)^2}{a-2}}$ and for any nonempty independent subset X of V(G), ${\mid}\;N_{G}(X)\;{\mid}\;{\geq}\;{\frac{(b-3)n+(2a+2b-9){\mid}X{\mid}}{a+b-5}}$, then G has a Hamiltonian (g, f)-factor.

Improved Meet-in-the-Middle Attacks on Crypton and mCrypton

( Jingyi Cui ),( Jiansheng Guo ),( Yanyan Huang ),( Yipeng Liu ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2017 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.11 No.5

Crypton is a SP-network block cipher that attracts much attention because of its excellent performance on hardware. Based on Crypton, mCrypton is designed as a lightweight block cipher suitable for Internet of Things (IoT) and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). The security of Crypton and mCrypton under meet-in-the-middle attack is analyzed in this paper. By analyzing the differential properties of cell permutation, several differential characteristics are introduced to construct generalized δ-sets. With the usage of a generalized δ-set and differential enumeration technique, a 6-round meet-in-the-middle distinguisher is proposed to give the first meet-in-the-middle attack on 9-round Crypton-192 and some improvements on the cryptanalysis of 10-round Crypton-256 are given. Combined with the properties of nibble permutation and substitution, an improved meet-in-the-middle attack on 8-round mCrypton is proposed and the first complete attack on 9-round mCrypton-96 is proposed.

Sox12 Is a Cancer Stem-Like Cell Marker in Hepatocellular Carcinoma

        Song Zou,Chen Wang,Jiansheng Liu,Qun Wang,Dongdong Zhang,Shengnan Zhu,Shengyuan Xu,Mafei Kang,Shaozhong He 한국분자세포생물학회 2017 Molecules and cells Vol.40 No.11

Recent studies on molecular carcinogenesis suggest that the chemo-resistance of some cancers is largely due to presence of cancer stem cells (CSCs), which affect the chemotherapy outcome for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, currently no consensus on a CSC phenotype in HCC has been obtained. Here, we examined Sox12 as a novel CSC marker in HCC. Sox12+ versus Sox12- cells were purified from HCC cell lines. The Sox12+ cells were compared with Sox12- HCC cells for tumor sphere formation, chemo-resistance, tumor formation after serial adoptive transplantations in nude mice, and the frequency of developing distal metastasis. We found that compared to Sox12- HCC cells, Sox12+ HCC cells generated significantly more tumor spheres in culture, were more chemo-resistant to cisplatin, were detected in circulation more frequently, and formed distal tumor more frequently. Moreover, Sox12 ap-peared to functionally contribute to the stemness of HCC cells. Thus, we conclude that Sox12 may be a novel marker for enriching CSCs in HCC.
