The Bi₂Sr₂CaCu₂O_(8)+_(δ) single crystals are grown from the melt using a stoichiometric starting composition fer the cautions. The size and thickness of the Bi₂Sr₂CaCu₂O_(8)+_(δ) crystals depends on the cooling rate. The lower the cooling rate, the bigger and thicker the Bi₂Sr₂CaCu₂O_(8)+_(δ) crystals become. Bi₂Sr₂CaCu₂O_(8)+_(δ) X-ray diffraction(XRD) measurements of the single crystals were carried out using the radiation source of Cu Kα . In these Patterns only the (0,0,2n) diffraction appeared. The result indicated that the cleared surface of the single crystal was of the a-b face, and that the single crystal had a single phase without any undergrowth with 7K and 85K phases. In addition, although the figure is not shown, XRD patterns from (006) to (00□) were observed in the range of 2θ=0 to 60 degrees. The characterization of as-grown single crystals have been analyzed by Laue X-ray backsdattering along the c-axis and X-ray precession experiments. The result of magnetic moment vs Tc in 10 Gauss for a crystals were measurements indicated that the samples have a superconducting transition temperature of 85K.

<P>Pellino-1 is an E3 ubiquitin ligase acting as a critical mediator for a variety of immune receptor signaling pathways, including Toll-like receptors, interleukin-1 receptor and T-cell receptors. We recently showed that the Pellino-1-transgenic (Tg) mice developed multiple tumors with different subtypes in hematolymphoid and solid organs. However, the molecular mechanism underlying the oncogenic role of Pellino-1 in solid tumors remains unknown. Pellino-1-Tg mice developed adenocarcinoma in the lungs, and Pellino-1 expression was higher in human lung adenocarcinoma cell lines compared with non-neoplastic bronchial epithelial cell lines. Pellino-1 overexpression increased the cell proliferation, survival, colony formation, invasion and migration of lung adenocarcinoma cells, whereas Pellino-1 knock-down showed the opposite effect. Pellino-1 overexpression activated PI3K/Akt and ERK signaling pathways and elicited an epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) phenotype of lung adenocarcinoma cells. Pellino-1-mediated EMT was demonstrated through morphology, the upregulation of Vimentin, Slug and Snail expression and the downregulation of E-cadherin and <I>β</I>-catenin expression. Notably, Pellino-1 had a direct effect on the overexpression of Snail and Slug through Lys63-mediated polyubiquitination and the subsequent stabilization of these proteins. Pellino-1 expression level was significantly correlated with Snail and Slug expression in human lung adenocarcinoma tissues, and lung tumors from Pellino-1-Tg mice showed Snail and Slug overexpression. The Pellino-1-mediated increase in the migration of lung adenocarcinoma cells was mediated by Snail and Slug expression. Taken together, these results show that Pellino-1 contributes to lung tumorigenesis by inducing overexpression of Snail and Slug and promoting EMT. Pellino-1 might be a potential therapeutic target for lung cancer.</P>

<P>Two Gram-reaction-negative, yellow-orange-pigmented, rod-shaped bacterial strains, designated YC6722(T) and YC6723(T), were isolated from rhizosphere soil samples collected from rice fields in Jinju, Korea. Strains YC6722(T) and YC6723(T) grew optimally at 25-30 °C and at pH 7.0-8.5. Phylogenetic analyses of 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain YC6722(T) was most closely related to Sphingomonas jaspsi TDMA-16(T) (96.6???% sequence similarity) and strain YC6723(T) was related most closely to Sphingomonas aquatilis JSS7(T) (96.9???%). The two strains contained ubiquinone-10 (Q-10) as the major respiratory quinone system and sym-homospermidine as the major polyamine. The G+C contents of the genomic DNA of strains YC6722(T) and YC6723(T) were 63.3 and 61.0 mol%, respectively. The major fatty acid was C(18???:???1)??7c. The polar lipids detected in the two strains were phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, diphosphatidylglycerol, sphingoglycolipid, phosphatidyldimethylethanolamine and other unknown lipids. On the basis of their phylogenetic positions, and their biochemical and phenotypic characteristics, strains YC6722(T) and YC6723(T) represent two novel species of the genus Sphingomonas, for which the names Sphingomonas oryziterrae sp. nov. (???=???KCTC 22476(T) ???=???DSM 21455(T)) and Sphingomonas jinjuensis sp. nov. (KCTC 22477(T) ???=???DSM 21457(T)) are proposed.</P>

Most therapeutic proteins are glycosylated. These functional sugar moieties of proteins, so called glycan, are very important factor which determine pharmacological properties of the protein therapeutics. Therefore, regulation of glycosylation of protein is significant for producing Biotherapeutics. Polylactosamine is a basic structure of glycans having repeated structure of N-acetyllactosamine(LacNAc) which composed of Galactose(Gal) and N-acetylglucosamine(GlcNAc). Erythropoietin(EPO) is a heavily glycosylated cytokine that stimulates hematopoiesis. The EPO is known to be cleared much faster in vivo when containing polylactosamine than without it and in vivo activity of the EPO is proportional to the level of GlcNAc branching of its N-glycan. In this point of view, we tried to decrease the expression of polylactosamine structure as well as increase the ratio of the tetra antennary-structure on EPO as a model glycoprotein. We inhibited polylactosamine biosynthesis of recombinant human EPO in CHO cells by using siRNA which targets β3gnt2 gene that synthesize β1,4-Gal and β1,3-GlcNAc branch. As a result, the polylactosamine ratio of EPO was decreased to 2% compared with the 21% of wild type. In addition, the ratio of tetra-antennary structure was up-regulated to 46% compared with the 32% of wild type. This might be promising result for producing therapeutic glycoproteins with high in-vivo stability and activity.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>To prepare hydroxyapatite (HA)/poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) composite fibers with high processibility applicable to various biomedical fields, HA/PVA composite powders were synthesized through a coprecipitation method and then mixed with pure PVA in dimethyl sulfoxide at 90°C for 2 h to prepare wet‐spinning dopes. HA/PVA solutions with HA contents of 0, 1, 3, 5, 10, and 15 wt % were analyzed with a rheometer to elucidate the effect of HA particles on the shear viscosities of the spinning dopes. The spinning dopes with pure PVA and an HA/PVA concentration of 12 wt % showed non‐Newtonian flow behaviors, and as the HA content increased from 1 to 15 wt %, the shear viscosities increased simultaneously because of the complex formation between PVA chains, citric acid, and HA particles acting as crosslinkers. The increased viscosities of the spinning dopes diminished the breakage of PVA fibers and enhanced the spinnability. Through the addition of citric acid interacting with both PVA and HA particles, the aggregation of HA particles was suppressed, and it was possible to prepare HA/PVA composite fibers with smooth surfaces. An adequate amount of HA in the PVA fibers improved the thermal and mechanical properties of the fibers because uniformly dispersed HA particles interacting with PVA chains through hydrogen bonding in the PVA matrix complemented the structural defects. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Improved cooling design was verified of the reliability through the numerical analysis in order to develop the cylindrical high voltage generator. This study has investigated the temperature rise of rotor and stator windings with and without applying an air guide at NDE(non drive end). The air guide serves to efficiently maintain the structure of internal ventilation circulation, and local temperature variation may occur at the main heating part when the air guide is present or absent. As a result of numerical analysis, it was confirmed that the average temperature of the rotor windings decreased by about 1.9 °C and the average temperature of the stator windings increased by about 2.4 °C when the air guide is applied. The result of the reliability test showed the satisfaction of the insulation class F (155 °C).
Effect of Seeding Rate on the Yield and Quality of Whole Crop Rice Variety ''Namil"

This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of seeding rate on the quality and yield of whole crop rice variety, "Namil". Whole crop rice variety, "Namil", was direct seeded at 25 April. The seeding rate were four level(30, 60, 90, and 120㎏/㏊). There was not found significantly difference plant height and dry matter(DM) content among seeding rate. Acid detergent fiber(ADF) and neutral detergent fiber(NDF) content was increased until 90㎏/㏊ of seeding rate. The content of TDN(total digestible nutrient) decreased also with increased seeding rate until 90㎏/㏊ seeding rate. The highest fresh and DM yield showed at 120㎏/㏊ seeding rate. But there was not found significantly difference among 60, 90 and 120㎏/㏊ seeding rate. Although high seeding rate increase the DM yield, 60㎏/㏊ seeding rate will be recommendable as proper seeding rate for whole crop rice.
