Revisiting the Nexus of Foreign Direct Investment, Financial Development, and Economic Growth: The Case of Emerging Economies

Jai KUMAR,Ahmed Nawaz SOOMRO,Joti KUMARI 한국유통과학회 2022 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.9 No.1

Foreign direct investment (FDI) has increased at an exponential rate during the last two decades. It is now a feature of emerging market economies as well. Foreign direct investment and financial development are important factors in an economy’s growth. Various studies have examined the impact of foreign direct investment and financial development on economic growth in different countries and areas. However, the findings are currently inconclusive. Using updated data from 1970 to 2020, this study will examine the relationships between FDI, financial development, and economic growth in 30 rising economies.GDP is the dependent variable, while FDI, financial development, trade openness, infrastructure, exchange rate, and GDP growth are the independent factors. To estimate the panel data, we used the most recent econometric models. The study’s major findings suggest that FDI and financial development are critical determinants in emerging economies’ economic progress. Furthermore, multiple robustness checks supported the study’s empirical findings. The results of this study include various practical recommendations for investors, governments, and policymakers, given the increased interest in global economic integration and member states’ reliance on FDI as a critical aspect of sustaining prosperity.

      • Facile and novel synthetic method to prepare nano molybdenum and its catalytic activity

        Jaikumar, Sugumaran Sam,Yuvakkumar, Rathinam,Suriya Prabha, Rangaraj,Karunakaran, Gopalu,Rajendran, Venkatachalam,Sun Ig Hong IET 2015 IET nanobiotechnology Vol.9 No.4

<P>This study reports on a facile and economical synthetic method to prepare nano molybdenum by solid-state reaction technique. Metallic nano molybdenum was synthesised from molybdenum trioxide, molybdenum IV oxide and molybdenum VI oxide through thermal decomposition technique. Metallic nano molybdenum prepared from molybdenum IV oxide was used to study the catalytic effect of molybdenum nanoparticles on the growth of <I>Anabaena</I> sp. The increase in concentration of nano molybdenum from 0.1 to 100% in BG11 (N-Mo- + nano Mo) medium increases heterocyst frequency. The chlorophyll and protein content in <I>Anabaena</I> sp. was found to improve when compared with bulk molybdenum particles and showed a positive influence to be used as a nano nutrient for <I>Anabaena</I> sp.</P>

Removal of colorants from wastewater: A review on sources and treatment strategies

        K. Grace Pavithra,P. Senthil Kumar,V. Jaikumar,P. Sundar Rajan 한국공업화학회 2019 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.75 No.-

Treatments of dye wastewater from the industries are to be done in order to control the negative impactto our environment due to polluted water. In this review, recent technologies for the removal of dyes fromwastewater are discussed briefly. The technologies such as coagulation, membrane treatment, advancedoxidation process, biological treatment and adsorption, their performance, features, advantages anddisadvantages have been highlighted. From the review, it is concluded that advanced oxidation process, biological treatment and adsorption are frequently used techniques for dye removal and large numbers ofresearch were done in thefield of adsorption in recent years.

Effect of certain trimethoxy flavones on paclitaxel - induced peripheral neuropathy in mice

        Jagan Nadipelly,Vijaykumar Sayeli,Parimala Kadhirvelu,Jaikumar Shanmugasundaram,Binoy Varghese Cheriyan,Viswanathan Subramanian 한국한의학연구원 2018 Integrative Medicine Research Vol.7 No.2

Background: The anti - nociceptive effect of 7, 2′, 3′ – trimethoxy flavone, 7, 2′, 4′ – trimethoxy flavone, 7, 3′, 4′ – trimethoxy flavone and 7, 5, 4′ – trimethoxy flavone against inflammatory, neurogenic and thermal pain in mice was reported earlier. The present study was designed to investigate the effect of the above trimethoxy flavones in amelioration of peripheral neuropathy induced by paclitaxel. Methods: Peripheral neuropathy was induced in mice by administration of a single i.p. dose (10 mg/kg) of paclitaxel. The manifestations of peripheral neuropathy such as tactile allodynia, cold allodynia and thermal hyperalgesia were assessed 24 h later by employing hair aesthesiometer test, acetone bubble test and hot water tail immersion test respectively. Further, the role of inflammatory cytokines like TNF – α, IL - 1β and free radicals in the action of trimethoxy flavones was investigated using in vitro assays. Results: The test compounds dose dependently attenuated paclitaxel - induced tactile allodynia, cold allodynia and thermal hyperalgesia in mice. The test compounds inhibited TNF – α, IL - 1β and free radicals in a concentration dependent manner. Conclusion: The investigated trimethoxy flavones attenuated paclitaxel – induced peripheral neuropathy in mice. The inhibition of cytokines and free radicals in addition to many neuronal mechanisms reported earlier may contribute to this beneficial effect.

      • Chronic Virus Infection Enforces Demethylation of the Locus that Encodes PD-1 in Antigen-Specific CD8+ T Cells

        Youngblood, Ben,Oestreich, Kenneth ,J.,Ha, Sang-Jun,Duraiswamy, Jaikumar,Akondy, Rama ,S.,West, Erin ,E.,Wei, Zhengyu,Lu, Peiyuan,Austin, James ,W.,Riley, James ,L.,Boss, Jeremy&nb Elsevier 2011 Immunity Vol.35 No.3

<P><B>Summary</B></P><P>Functionally exhausted T cells have high expression of the PD-1 inhibitory receptor, and therapies that block PD-1 signaling show promise for resolving chronic viral infections and cancer. By using human and murine systems of acute and chronic viral infections, we analyzed epigenetic regulation of PD-1 expression during CD8+ T cell differentiation. During acute infection, naive to effector CD8+ T cell differentiation was accompanied by a transient loss of DNA methylation of the <I>Pdcd1</I> locus that was directly coupled to the duration and strength of T cell receptor signaling. Further differentiation into functional memory cells coincided with <I>Pdcd1</I> remethylation, providing an adapted program for regulation of PD-1 expression. In contrast, the <I>Pdcd1</I> regulatory region was completely demethylated in exhausted CD8+ T cells and remained unmethylated even when virus titers decreased. This lack of DNA remethylation leaves the <I>Pdcd1</I> locus poised for rapid expression, potentially providing a signal for premature termination of antiviral functions.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P><P>► <I>Pdcd1</I> locus demethylation is coupled to naive to effector CD8+ T cell differentiation ► After <I>Pdcd1</I> remethylation, select CpGs remain unmethylated in memory CD8+ T cells ► Exhausted virus-specific CD8+ T cells retain an unmethylated <I>Pdcd1</I> regulatory region ► Human CD8+ T cells specific to chronic viruses retain an unmethylated <I>PDCD1</I> locus</P>
