This study was made to evaluate the nutritional values and glucosinolate contents of three types of rapeseed oil meal(RSM), originated from Canada(canola), China(CRSM:Chinese Rapeseed Oil Meal) and India (IRSM:Indian Rapeseed Oil Meal), and their dietary effects on the performance of weanling pigs. Nutritional evaluation included the contents of moisture, crude protein(CP), ether extracts (EE), crude fiber(CF), Ash, Ca and P, KOH solubility, tannin, and glucosinolate contents of each RSM. Total of two hundred-forty weanling pigs weighing about 20㎏ initially were housed in 24 pens with 10 pigs per pen. The thirty animals were assigned to one of eight rations : T₁ (0% RSM + 2% molasses), T₂ (6% canola + 2% molasses), T₃ (6% CRSM + 2% Molasses), T₄(6% IRSM + 2% molasses), T_5 (0% RSM + 5% molasses), T_6 (6% Canola + 5% molasses). T_7 (6% CRSM + 5% molasses), T_8 (6% IRSM + 5% molasses). During the experimental period, body weight and feed intakes were measured weekly and feed conversion rates were calculated. The results obtained from this experiments are summarized as follows. 1. The KOH solubility of canola, CRSM and IRSM was found to be 54.6, 35.7 and 64.8%, respectively. The glucosinolate contents of canola, CRSM and IRSM were found to be 0.11, 0.22 and 0.79%, respectively. 2. There were no significant differences between the 2% molasses and the 5% molasses supplemented groups in feed intake and body weight gain. 3. The 6% CRSM(T₃, T_7) and IRSM(T₄, T_8) groups were significantly (P$lt;0.05) inferior to the control groups(T₁, T_5) and 6% canola groups(T₂, T_6) in feed intake and body weight gains. The control groups(T₂, T_6) were significantly (P$lt;0.05) superior to the 6% canola groups(T₂, T_6), 6% CRSM(T₃, T_7) and 6% IRSM groups(T₄, T_8) in feed conversion rate.

Terahertz waves (T-ray) was extensively studied for the nondestructive evaluation of characterization of various and FRP composite materials for a use of wind energy. The composite materials are being utilized on the various areas. Here, T-rays were used to perform NDE when detecting defects in the trailing edge of a wind turbine blade. This study proposed a method to measure a refractive index of a composite, using T-rays (THz) and reviewed the characteristics of the T-ray E-field of a CFRP composite. Particularly, this study produced images to determine defects in the trailing edge of a wind turbine blade and compared and analyzed the images. The TOF of T-ray penetration was measured using a T-ray through-transmission mode to find the following characteristics of the blade. The trailing edge of a nonconductive wind turbine blade could transmit T-rays, enabling the measurement of refractive indices in a through-transmission mode. The effectiveness and limitations of T-ray for the NDE of composites are discussed.

A Gram-reaction-negative, non-motile, aerobic bacterium, designated HJ50(T), was isolated from deep seawater of the East Sea, South Korea. Cells were ovoid to rod-shaped (0.5-0.8x1.3-3.0 mum), often with unequal ends, suggesting a budding mode of reproduction. The strain had an absolute requirement for sea salts and tolerated up to 20 % (w/v) sea salts. Propionate, dl-lactate, 2-ketogluconate, 3-hydroxybutyrate and rhamnose were used as growth substrates, but not mannitol, salicin, 4-hydroxybenzoate or acetate. The major fatty acid was summed feature 7 (C(18 : 1)omega7c/omega9t/omega12t) and the DNA G+C content was 59.0+/-0.1 mol%. Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that this strain was affiliated with the genus Roseovarius. Similarities between the 16S rRNA gene sequence of strain HJ50(T) (1430 nt) and those of type strains of members of the genus Roseovarius were 94.1-96.3 %. DNA-DNA relatedness values between strain HJ50(T) and the type strains of members of the genus Roseovarius were low (1.3-24.6 %). Physiological and biochemical differences support assignment of strain HJ50(T) to the genus Roseovarius as a representative of a novel species. The name Roseovarius halotolerans sp. nov. is proposed, with HJ50(T) (=KCTC 22224(T) =LMG 24468(T)) as the type strain.

Weight loss during chemotherapy is a significant prognostic factor for poor survival in patients with advanced gastric cancer (AGC). However, in most studies, weight loss was measured at the end of chemotherapy, limiting its clinical use. In this study, we evaluated whether weight loss during the first month of chemotherapy could predict survival outcomes in patients with AGC. We analyzed 719 patients with metastatic or recurrent AGC who were receiving palliative chemotherapy. We calculated the initial body mass index (BMIi), percent weight loss after 1 month of chemotherapy (Delta W (1)m), percent weight loss after last administration of chemotherapy (Delta W (end)), and average weight loss per month during chemotherapy (Delta W/m). We correlated these data with overall survival (OS) by receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) curves and Kaplan-Meier curves, and performed a subgroup analysis using Cox regression. The probabilities of longer OS had stronger correlations with Delta W/m and Delta W (1)m than with Delta W (end) or BMIi. A significant positive correlation between Delta W (1)m and Delta W/m (r (2) = 0.591, p < 0.001) was observed. Median OS of patients with Delta W (1)m more than 3 % was significantly shorter than in patients with less weight loss (OS: 9.7 vs. 16.3 months, p < 0.001). Subgroup analysis revealed that Delta W (1)m accompanied poor survival irrespective of other clinical characteristics. Weight loss at the very first month of palliative chemotherapy could predict unfavorable survival outcomes in AGC.

During strip coiling process, axial inhomogeneity of the stress distribution within a thin strip causes defects such as edge wave and center buckle which are the key concern of customer requirements. In the current study, an analytical model for determining the stress distribution and deformation was utilized to investigate the mechanism of flatness change of the strip and to prevent such defects. In the present model, the coil and the newly coiled strip was assumed to be a thick and thin hollow cylinder, respectively. The coiling process was modeled by consecutively coupling the thin cylinder, which is subject to the circumferential stress due to the coiling tension, onto the thick cylinder. Then, the thick cylinder is subject to the outer radial pressure resulting from the circumferential stress in the thin cylinder. In each coiling, the incremental stress field within the thick cylinder was solved by using Love’s stress function. The stress field within the coil during the coiling process was obtained via the principle of superposition of the additional stress field. In order to consider the axial inhomogeneity of the deformation, a thickness distribution of the strip due to the strip crown was taken into account in the analysis. According to the present analysis, it was found that the flatness improvement can be acquired by decreasing the strip crown and the coiling tension in terms of the circumferential stress distribution.
