        식민시대 지식인, 유상규(劉相奎)의 삶의 궤적

        Many of the Korean intellectuals resisted against suppression of Japanese Imperialism with the people during the Japanese occupation period. Ryu Sang-Kyu was also one of those intellectuals. Ryu Sang-Kyu was born in Gang-gye of North Pyongan-do on 10th November, 1897. He entered Keijo Medical College as one of the first entering students in 1916. However, at the end of his third year, he participated in the 3·1 Independence Movement of Korea and was suspended from the college which was run by the Japanese on account of his participation. Then moving to Shanghai, he joined Heung Sa Dan(興士團), an active patriotic group fighting for independence of Korea. He initiated the provisional government of Korea as a network investigator and he played second string to Ahn Chang-Ho(安昌浩), one of major Korean independence activists for four years. In 1923, following Ahn Chang-Ho’s advice, he returned to Keijo Medical College to complete the course. Even in colonial Korea, he continued independence movement and was involved in Dong Woo Hoe(同友會), the branch of Heung Sa Dan in Korea. After the graduation of Keijo Medical College in 1927, he had served at the department of surgery in Keijo Medical College. In 1930, he participated in founding of the Korean Medical Association(朝鮮醫師協會). He also raised public awareness by writing to many articles on hygiene and public health issues in public journals and newspapers. In short, he did his best as an intellectual, a medical doctor, an activist of independence movement until he died from streptococcal infection on 7th July, 1936.

        혼합 식물추출물에 대한 차응애의 감수성 검정

        The acaricidal activity of the mixed plant extracts of Gleditsia japonica var. koraien, Camellia sinensis, Cinnamomum cassia, and Lantana camara, toward the tea red spider mite, Tetranychus kanzawai Kishida was evaluated in laboratory bioassays. Treatments with mixtures 1 and 3 were effective against the adult females of T. kanzawai and yielded 87.0 and 85.6% adulticidal activity at 7 days after treatment, respectively. Mixture 3 revealed 78.7% adulticidal activity. However, mixtures 4 and 5 had lower adulticidal activity than the other treatments. The adult females of T. kanzawai treated with mixtures 1 and 3 produced only 22.5-22.8% as many eggs as did the control females. The residue of the plant extracts tested had low adulticidal activity (16.3-27.2%). All of the plant extracts tested were ineffective against the eggs of T. kanzawai. Treatments with mixtures 1 and 3 were effective against the nymphs of T. kanzawai and led to emergence rates of 20.7 and 25.3%, respectively. These results suggest that mixtures 1 and 3 might be used for the control of T. kanzawai.

        제주도 지하수 질산염 농도의 시·공간적 변화 특성: 장기(1993-2015) 모니터링 자료의 평가

        1993년부터 2015년까지 관측된 제주도 지하수 장기모니터링 관측정(N = 4,835)에서 수집된 지하수 수질자료(N = 21,568)를 기반으로 질산성질소의 시공간적 변동 특성을 평가하였다. 제주도 지하수의 질산성질소 농도의 중앙값은 2.5 mg/L로서 다른 국가나 대륙의 조사 결과에 비해 다소 높거나 유사한 것으로 나타났다. 또한 지하수 용도, 행정구역 및 고도 별로 유의한 차이를 보였다. 특히, 산간 지역에 비해 저지대 해안가에 위치한 농업 및 주거지역에서 농도가 높음을 확인하였다. Mann-Kendall 및 Sen’s slope 분석을 활용한 질산성질소 농도의 추세 분석 결과, 하류 저지 대에 비해 중산간지역에서의 질산성질소 농도 증가 경향이 뚜렷하였다. 제주도 내 토지 피복의 시계열 변화 특성과 결부 지어 보면, 중산간지역의 오염 증가 추세는 농업지역의 확장 등 인위적 활동 증가에 기인한 결과로 판단된다. 반면,기지정된 지하수자원특별관리구역에서는 전반적으로 질산성질소 농도의 감소 경향이 나타났는데, 이는 지하수 관리 측면에서 수질관리를 위한 적극적인 정책이 유효함을 시사한다. 본 연구에서는 제주도 지하수의 질산성질소 오염관리를 위한 적정 방안을 제안한다. The spatio-temporal variations of nitrate concentrations in groundwater of Jeju Island were evaluated by an analysis of time series groundwater quality data (N = 21,568) that were collected from regional groundwater monitoring (number of wells = 4,835) for up to 20 years between 1993 and 2015. The median concentration of NO 3 -N is 2.5 mg/L, which is slightly higher than those reported from regional surveys in other countries. Nitrate concentrations of groundwater in wells tend to significantly vary according to different water usage (of the well), administrative districts, and topographic elevations: nitrate level is higher in low-lying agricultural and residential areas than those in high mountainous areas. The Mann-Kendall trend test and Sen’s slope analysis show that nitrate concentration in mid-mountainous areas tends to increase, possibly due to the expansion of agricultural areas toward highland. On the other hand, nitrate concentrations in the Specially Designated Groundwater Quality Protection Zones show the temporally decreasing trend, which implies the efficiency of groundwater management actions in Jeju. Proper measures for sustainable groundwater quality management are suggested in this study.

        Enhanced In-situ Mobilization and Biodegradation of Phenanthrene from Soil by a Solvent/Surfactant System

        The mobilization and biodegradation of phenanthrene in soil was enhanced by using paraffin oil, which was stabilized by the addition of a surfactant (Brij 30). The ratio of paraffin oil/Brij 30 was determined by measuring the change in the critical micelle concentration. When only surfactant was used, the stabilized paraffin oil emulsion could dissolve more phenanthrene in the water phase. Column experiment showed increased phenanthrene mobilization from the contaminated soil. The phenanthrene mobilized in the paraffin oil/Brij 30 emulsion was biodegraded faster than that in water phase or surfactant solution. This result indicates that a paraffin oil/surfactant system can be effectively used for the removal of PAH from contaminated soil.

        환경문제를 야기시키는 원인은 인간 그 자체에 있으며, 경제주체별로는 개인, 기업, 정부로 볼 수 있다. 시시각각 변화하고 강화되여가는 국제환경질서에 대처하기 위해서는 기업과 정부가 협조적인 관계를 유지하면서 각각의 역할을 하여야하는 바, 기업은 사회공헌책임주의에 입각하여 환경친화책인 기업경영을 도입, 실천해야 하며, 정부는 이를 지원, 촉진하기 위한 정책을 펼쳐야 할 것이다. 이 논문은 지구차원에서의 환경문제, 미국과 한국의 최근 환경정책 그리고 기업에서의 환경경영도입의 중요성과 환경경영이 모든 조직기능에서 통합 고려되어야 하는 필요성올 논의하였으며, 기업의 환경경영을 위한 환경성과지표, 환경심사, 전과정분석 등의 요소들을 검토하였다. 끝으로 3M, Body Shop, Baxter International 둥 3개 기업에 있어서의 환경경영의 사례를 동해 환경경영에 의한 기업이익을 엿볼 수 있었다.

        Mild and Efficient Silylcyanation of Aldehydes Catalyzed by Zirconium Complex

        An efficient method of addition of trimethylsilyl cyanide to aldehydes by employing a zirconium complex as the catalyst has been described. A variety of aromatic, aliphatic, cyclic and heterocyclic aldehydes has been converted into corresponding trimethylsilyl ethers in excellent yield within short reaction time.

        L<sub>2</sub>-NORM ERROR ANALYSIS OF THE HP-VERSION WITH NUMERICAL INTEGRATION

        We consider the hp-version to solve non-constant coefficient elliptic equations with Dirichlet boundary conditions on a bounded, convex polygonal domain $\Omega$ in $R^{2}.$ To compute the integrals in the variational formulation of the discrete problem we need the numerical quadrature rule scheme. In this paler we consider a family $G_{p}= {I_{m}}$ of numerical quadrature rules satisfying certain properties. When the numerical quadrature rules $I_{m}{\in}G_{p}$ are used for calculating the integrals in the stiffness matrix of the variational form we will give its variational fore and derive an error estimate of ${\parallel}u-\tilde{u}^h_p{\parallel}_0,{\Omega}'$.

        Rhyparini is one of the tribes of well-known termitophilous scarabs included in Aphodiinae Leach, 1815. Several species of the tribe are known to live in association with termites, with both organisms occurring together in relatively large numbers. In extant numbers of this tribe, the larvae live inside termite nests. The tribe Rhyparini can be distinguished by the following combination of characters: clypeus usually bidentate though sometime feebly so, inflexed edge medially obtusely angulate; frons and vertex with tufts of setae or longitudinal tubercles; pronotum with six longitudinal costae equally spaced in at least posterior half of disc, lateral pronotal edge at least feebly bilobed in anterior half; elytra costae, costae varying on height, number and spacing, elytral apices frequently bulbous, epipleura narrow; posterior prosternal process hastate; antenna 9th segmented, club 3th segmented, segments of club short and compact. The tribe includes 77 species of 12 genera worldwide, and Pittino (2006) published a key to world genera in the subfamily Rhyparinae (tribe Rhyparini). In total, nine species of two genera in the tribe Rhyparini have been recorded in the Palaearctic region up to date: Rhyparus Westwood with eight species and Sybacodes Fairmaire one species, In Japan three species are known, China with one and Taiwan five. However, up to date, any has not been reported in Korea. In the present study we report on the tribe Rhyparini from Korea for the first time, based on Rhyparus azumaiazumai Nakane, 1956. Diagnosis and illustrations of detailed diagnostic characters, including male genitalia are provided.

      • The SH3 Domain of Phospholipase C-${\gamma}1$ Associates with Shc

        The SH3 domain of PLC-${\gamma}1$ has been known to induce DNA synthesis. However, little is known about the putative effector proteins that associate with the domain. In this report, we provide evidence that the SH3 domain of PLC-${\gamma}1$ associates with Shc, which has been implicated in the activation of p21Ras in response to many growth factors. The association between Shc and PLC-${\gamma}1$ is enhanced either by v-Src-induced transformation or EGF-stimulation in vivo and in vitro. Furthermore, from transient expression studies with COS-7 cells, we show that the SH3 domain of PLC-${\gamma}1$ is required for association with Shc in vivo, whereas tyrosyl phosphorylation of PLC-${\gamma}1$ is not. Taken together, we suggest that Shc might be involved in the PLC-${\gamma}1$-mediated signaling pathway.
