<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Here, we report on the synthesis of a silica nanoparticle (NP)-reinforced oligosiloxane nanohybrid material (SM-nanocomposite) and demonstrate its properties as a robust transparent hard coating material for various applications. The oligosiloxane (MMO) resin as a matrix was synthesized using methyl and methacryl silanes <I>via</I> a hydrolytic sol-gel condensation. The silica NPs with various sizes (12, 20 and 60nm) as nanofillers were also synthesized through a hydrolytic sol-gel condensation, and the surface of NPs was organically modified with methyl and methacryl functions, which allowed stable dispersion and chemical cross-linking of the NPs with MMO matrix. <P>Here, we propose crystalline indium tin oxide/metal nanowire composite electrode (c-ITO/metal NW-GFRHybrimer) films as a robust platform for flexible optoelectronic devices. A very thin c-ITO overcoating layer was introduced to the surface-embedded metal nanowire (NW) network. The c-ITO/metal NW-GFRHybrimer films exhibited outstanding mechanical flexibility, excellent optoelectrical properties and thermal/chemical robustness. Highly flexible and efficient metal halide perovskite solar cells were fabricated on the films. The devices on the c-ITO/AgNW- and c-ITO/CuNW-GFRHybrimer films exhibited power conversion efficiency values of 14.15% and 12.95%, respectively. A synergetic combination of the thin c-ITO layer and the metal NW mesh transparent conducting electrode will be beneficial for use in flexible optoelectronic applications.</P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We report the development of a class-II-type hybrid coating (NS-EP hybrid) composed of surface-modified nanosilica (NS) as the filler and a thermo-curable epoxy polymer (EP) as the matrix. NS is synthesized using a hydrolytic sol-gel process; its hydroxyl surface is rendered cross-linkable using glycidyl ligands to ensure homogeneous dispersion and optimal hybridization with the EP matrix. The NS-EP hybrid shows high optical transparency, enhanced mechanical properties, and improved moisture barrier performance. Further, we discuss the physical properties of the hybrid with respect to the NS content. To study the applicability of the hybrid as a high-performance barrier material in practical applications, an actual OLED device is encapsulated using the hybrid.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> We introduce class-II-type high-performance hybrid coating (NS-EP hybrid) composed of a surface-modified nanosilica and a thermo-curable epoxy matrix. </LI> <LI> The NS-EP hybrid exhibits excellet moisture barrier performace as well as robust mechanical property. </LI> <LI> The OLED device is encapsulaed with the NS-EP hybrid coating, and thus shows considerably extended lifetime. </LI> </UL> </P>

Background/Aims: Few studies have investigated the prognosis of non-gastric gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) under the modified National Institutes of Health (NIH) consensus criteria in Korea. This study aims to clarify the clinical usefulness of the modified NIH criteria for risk stratification. Methods: From January 2000 through October 2012, 88 patients who underwent curative resection for primary GISTs were included in this study. The enrolled patients were stratified to predict recurrence by the original NIH criteria and modified NIH criteria. Results: In all, 88 patients had non-gastric GISTs, including 82 and 6 patients with GISTs of the small intestine and colorectum, respectively. The mean age was 57.3±13.0 years, and the median follow-up duration was 3.40 years (range, 0.02-12.76 years). All patients who were placed in the intermediate-risk category according to the original NIH criteria were reclassified into the high-risk category according to the modified NIH criteria. Therefore, the proportion of cases in the intermediate-risk category declined to 0.0% from 25.0% (22/88), and the proportion of cases in the high-risk category increased to 43.2% (38/88) from 18.2% (16/88) under the modified NIH criteria. Among the 22 reclassified patients, 6 (27.3%) suffered a recurrence during the observational period, and the recurrence rate of high-risk category patients was 36.8% (14/38). Conclusions: Patients in the high-risk category according to the modified NIH criteria had a high GIST recurrence rate. Therefore, the modified NIH criteria are clinically useful in selecting patients who need imatinib adjuvant chemotherapy after curative surgical resection. (Intest Res 2014;12:229-235)

<P>In this paper, we report flexible transparent conducting electrode (TCE) film using a silver grid (Ag grid)/silver nanowire (AgNW) hybrid structure (AG/NW-GFRHybrimer). The AG/NW-GFRHybrimer consists of an AgNW-embedded glass-fabric reinforced plastic film (AgNW-GFRHybrimer) and an electroplated Ag grid. The AgNW-GFRHybrimer is used as a flexible transparent substrate and a seed layer for electroplating. The Ag grid is fabricated via an all-solution-process; the grid pattern is formed using conventional photolithography; and Ag is deposited through electroplating. The AG/NW-GFRHybrimer exhibits excellent opto-electrical properties (transparency = 87%, sheet resistance = 13 Omega/square), superior thermal stability (250 degrees C for 720 min and 85 degrees C/85% RH for 100 h); and outstanding mechanical flexibility (bending radius = 1 mm for 2000 cycles). Finally, a touch-screen panel (four-wire resistive type) was fabricated using the AG/NW-GFRHybrimer to demonstrate its potential for use in actual optoelectronic applications.</P>
