Advanced understanding of SOC still requires further studies on diverse soils including a wide spectrum of paddy soils and agricultural practices. The objectives of this study were to investigate the effects of long-term fertilization on both light fraction (LF) and heavy fraction (HF) of soil organic matter and the relationships among total C, C/N ratio, clay content, and fertilization type in paddy soils. Compost application led to a significant increase in HF and consequently in C and N contents. Compost plots had a higher C/N ratio compared to those of treatments without compost in HF as well as LF. Correlation of C/N ratio to LF and HF was clearly separated into two groups as a boundary of about 9.5 of C/N ratio. These results clearly show that balanced fertilization together with composting could lead to synergic effects on enhancing C sequestration as well as plant nutrition in plow layer of paddy soils in Korea.

Purpose: In patients who have previously undergone subtotal gastrectomy (STG), the remnant stomach is supplied with arterial blood through the splenic artery. It is currently unclear whether the remnant stomach can be safely preserved when performing distal pancreatosplenectomy (DPS) in these patients. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the safety and feasibility of performing DPS in patients who had undergone a previous STG. Methods: A multicenter cohort study was performed to identify patients who underwent DPS. Electronic medical data of Clinical Data Warehouse from 7 representative high-volume centers in 5 cities were retrospectively reviewed. A propensity score-matched analysis was performed to match patients who had no history of upper abdominal surgery with patients who had undergone a previous STG. Results: Fourteen DPS patients who had a history of STG (STG group) were studied and matched to 70 patients who underwent DPS without any history of upper abdominal surgery (non-STG group). All patients in the STG group had the remnant stomach preserved. In most patients, the blood vessel supplying blood to the remnant stomach was the left inferior phrenic artery. There was no significant difference in the incidence of stomach-related complications or length of hospital stay between the 2 groups. Conclusion: Our study results suggest that the remnant stomach could be safely preserved when performing DPS in patients with a prior STG. However, it is necessary to carefully evaluate the vascular structure of the remnant stomach through preoperative imaging study and closely observe changes to the blue stomach during the operation.
Gelatinization Characteristics of Glutinous Rice Varieties
Kwang Ho Kim,Hong Sook Park,Jae Sung Kim 韓國作物學會 1999 Korean journal of crop science Vol.44 No.1
Gelatinization characteristics of 111 glutinous rice varieties were evaluated by Rapid Visco Analyzer. Gelatinization viscosity of glutinous rice tested varied with ecotypes or varietal groups: indica, japonica, and Tongil type. Indica rice showed the highest average value of initial pasting temperature. The average values for peak, hot, and cool viscosities were highest in Tongil-type rice, and lowest in japonica rice. Japonica showed the lowest breakdown and consistency, but the highest setback value. Indica was lower in alkali digestion value (ADV), and shorter in gel length after gelatinization thanjaponica and Tongil-type. Glutinous rices tested could be divided into six groups by cluster analysis based on their gelatinization characteristics. Group I-A was mostly early maturing japonica varieties while I-B was mostly indica and Tongil-type rices. Groups II-A and II-B were consisted of very early maturingjaponica, and III-A and III-B included medium or medium late maturingjaponica varieties. Group III-A showed the lowest average values of peak, hot, cool, and consistency viscosities, and also in breakdown and setback ratios. Group I-B revealed the highest values in peak, hot, cool, breakdown, and consistency viscosities. ADV was low in groups I-A, I-B, and II-B, and gel consistency was not different among the six varietal groups. Principal component analysis using seven traits related with gelatinization produced four effective components, and the first and second components were highly correlated with all the gelatinization characters evaluated
Four Species of the family Diastylidae (Crustacea: Cumacea) from the Yellow Sea
Hong, Jae-Sang,Park, Mi-Ra,Choi, Kwang-Sik The Korean Society of Oceanography 1998 Journal of the Korean Society of Oceanography Vol.33 No.3
Four species of the family Diastylidae (Crustacea: Cumacea) are redescribed based on the samples collected in the Yellow Sea. They are Leptostylis hexaspinula (Liu and Liu, 1990), Dimorphostylis brevicaudata (Zimmer, 1903), Dimorphostylis asiatica Zimmer, 1920 and Dimorphostylis hirsuta Gamo, 1960. Except Dimorphostylis asiatica the three species are new to the Korean fauna.
Beyond Hygiene: Commensal Microbiota and Allergic Diseases
Hong, Sung-Wook,Kim, Kwang Soon,Surh, Charles D. 한국조명·전기설비학회 2017 한국조명·전기설비학회 학술대회논문집 Vol. No.

Complex communities of microorganisms, termed commensal microbiota, inhabit mucosal surfaces and profoundly influence host physiology as well as occurrence of allergic diseases. Perturbing factors such as the mode of delivery, dietary fibers and antibiotics can influence allergic diseases by altering commensal microbiota in affected tissues as well as in intestine. Here, we review current findings on the relationship between commensal microbiota and allergic diseases, and discuss the underlying mechanisms that contribute to the regulation of allergic responses by commensal microbiota.
