        잔디기생선충에 대한 살선충 약제의 살선충 효과

        잔디에는 다양한 식물기생선충들이 피해를 주고 있지만 우리나라의 경우 등록되어 있는 살선충제가 없다. 이에 본 연구는 골프장 잔디에 발생하는 식물기생선충에 대한 효과적인 살선충제를 알아보기 위하여 살선충제(abamectin, fluazaindolizine, fluopyram, fosthiazate, imicyafos)와 neem oil, 미생물 살선충제(Burkholderia rinojensis), 농업용 과산화수소수 제품을 이용하여 실내와 야외에서 실험을 수행하였다. 5종의 선충(Paratrichodorus minor, Helicotylenchus microlobus, Paralongidorus koreanensis, Mesocriconema curvatum, Tylenchorhynchus thermophilus)이 혼재하여 발생하는 서경타니골프장 토양시료와 두 종의 선충(H. microlobus, M. curvatum)이 혼재하는 스카이72 골프장 토양시료에서 분리한 선충들을 이용하여 실내 살선충 활성 검정 결과 과산화수소수와 fluopyram의 활성이 높았고, 이들 두 물질에 선충 침지 시 3시간에도 80%이상의 치사율을 보였다. 켄터키블루그래스로 조성된 골프장 티에서 살선충물질(B. rinojensis, fluazaindolizine, fluopyram, imicyafos, 과산화수소수)들의 효과를 시험한 결과 imysiafos와 fluapyram의 효과가 처리 60일째까지 높게 나타나 이들 두 살선충제의 경우 골프장 선충 방제에 실용적 활용이 가능 할 것으로 사료된다. Various species of plant parasitic nematodes are known to damage turfgrass. However, there are no nematicides registered for the control of turfgrass nematodes in Korea. Therefore, the present study was conducted to investigate the efficacy of some nematicidal active ingredients ([nematicides; abamectin, fluazaindolizine, fluopyram, fosthiazate, imicyafos], microbial nematicide [Burkholderia rinojensis], and nematicidal compound [hydrogen peroxide]) on turfgrass nematodes, for the subsequent selection and development of effective nematicidal agents. As a result of the laboratory nematicidal activity test, high efficacy of hydrogen peroxide and fluopyram against mixed nematode populations of 5 species (Paratrichodorus minor, Helicotylenchus microlobus, Paralongidorus koreanensis, Mesocriconema curvatum, and Tylenchorhynchus thermophilus) isolated from the Seogyeong Tani and Sky72 golf course soil samples were observed. Treatment of the nematodes with the two chemical compounds exhibited high mortality rate of more than 80% even in the first 3 hours after treatment, depending on the chemical concentration. In field treatments on golf course tees (Kentucky bluegrass), imicyafos and fluopyram were more effective until the 60th day of treatment. Therefore, it is considered that these two nematicides can be practically used to control nematodes in golf courses.

        An ANKRD11 exonic deletion accompanied by a congenital megacolon in an infant with KBG syndrome

        KBG syndrome is an autosomal dominant syndrome presenting with macrodontia, distinctive facial features, skeletal anoma-lies, and neurological problems caused by mutations in the ankyrin repeat domain 11 (ANKRD11) gene. The diagnosis of KBG is difἀcult in very young infants as the characteristic macrodontia and typical facial features are not obvious. The youngest patient diagnosed to date was almost one year of age. We here describe a 2-month-old Korean boy with distinctive craniofa-cial features but without any evidence of macrodontia due to his very early age. He also had a congenital megacolon without ganglion cells in the rectum. A de novo deletion of exons 5-9 of the ANKRD11 gene was identiἀed in this patient by exome sequencing and real-time genomic polymerase chain reaction. As ANKRD11 is involved in the development of myenteric plexus, a bowel movement disorder including a congenital megacolon is not surprising in a patient with KBG syndrome and has possibly been overlooked in past cases.

        Original articles : Comparison of processing times for isolation of feline adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells

        Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are an attractive source for cell therapy, as they have the potential for differentiation into multi-lineage cells. Adipose tissue is a safe source due to its easy extraction and abundant resource, with minimal risk to the organ donor. In this study, we attempted to correlate the harvest yield and resulting multipotency of feline adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells (fAD-MSCs) in accordance with processing time. fAD-MSCs were individually isolated from the abdominal adipose tissues of 6 felines. They were divided into two groups, based on their processing times - Group 1: 0~1 day after adipose tissue harvesting; Group 2: more than 3 days after adipose tissue harvesting. In both groups, the proliferation capacity was analyzed using the cumulative population doubling level (CPDL) calculation assay. The expression levels of MSC-specific markers and differentiation potentials into mesodermal cell lineages were also evaluated. We observed that fAD-MSC isolation yields and CPDL were excellent in Group 1 compared with Group 2. We also found that the differentiation potential-specific genes (ACAN and OPN) were strongly expressed in Group 1 compared with Group 2. These results suggest that for the clinical treatments of feline diseases, fAD-MSCs should be isolated within 1 day after adipose tissue harvesting.

      • 1996년과 1999년 경기지역 초등학교 학생들에서 유행성이하선염에 대한 면역도 조사

        Background : Although massive use of live attenuated mumps virus vaccines successfully reduced the incidence of mumps virus infection worldwide, mumps outbreaks have not been completely eliminated, even in vaccinated populations. In recent years, the incidence of mumps has been remarkably increased in Korea. This study was designed to evaluate the recent seroprevalence rate of mumps IgG among children in Kyonggi province at 1996 and 1999. Methods : Study population included students from 8 elementary schools in Kyonggi province. Serum samples were collected twice at 1996 and 1999 and tested for mumps-specific antibody by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). We also conducted a questionnaire survey on the parents and collected the records including history of vaccination and mumps infection. Results : The seropositive rates against mumps were 89.47% and 89.74% at 1996 and 1999, respectively, and they were not significantly different when compared to age, sex, and region. Although the first vaccination rates were 92.17% and 92.25% at 1996 and 1999, respectively, the second vaccination rates were only 37.89% and 38.03% at 1996 and 1999, respectively. Infection rate showed no significant difference between vaccinated groups and nonvaccinated gropus. Seropositive rate of infected group was higher than that of noninfected group but it was not significantly different between the vaccinated and the nonvaccinated. Conclusions : This study showed the seropositive rate and vaccination against mumps in children. There were no significant relationships between vaccination and infection. Therefore, it seems likely that the vaccination is not fully protective against mumps infection. This study will be helpful for the establishment of guideline for prevention and treatment of mumps in Korea. (Korean J Infect Dis 33: 157∼164, 2001)

        한국전통발효식품인 청국장에서 분리한 Bacillus methylotrophicus에 의한 항산화물질의 생산

        Although antioxidant activities of Korean traditional fermented foods were reported by many researchers, study on antioxidant activity of microorganism originated from Korean traditional fermented foods was little. Therefore, we improved condition for antioxidant production by a bacterium isolated from home-made Chungkookjang. We selected a bacterial strain, which showed the highest antioxidative activity, from Chungkookjang and then named GJ. The selected GJ strain was identified as Bacillus methylotrophicus by alignment data of 16S rRNA gene nucleotide sequences. Improved medium compositions for DPPH radical scavenging activity were 0.25% sucrose, 1% peptone, 0.01% MgSO4ㆍ7H2O and initial pH 6.5, respectively. Optimal culture conditions were 30℃, 200 rpm and 4% inoculum volume, respectively. In improved conditions, DPPH radical scavenging activity of GJ reached to 91% in a short time. The strain GJ also possessed ACE inhibition and other antioxidative activities; ACE inhibition activity (49.4%), ABTS radical scavenging activity (99.8%), metal chelating activity (67.9%), SOD-like activity (36.5%) and reducing power (A700=5.982) were observed, respectively. Therefore, our results suggest that B. methylotrophicus Gj strain may be potential candidate for functional foods, cosmetic products for anti-aging and medicine for diseases caused by oxidative stress.

        소아 측두엽 간질의 임상 양상

        목 적 : 비교적 전형적인 임상양상을 보이는 성인의 측두엽과는 달리 소아의 측두엽 간질은 정보가 부족하다. 소아의 측두엽 간질의 정의가 내려져 있지 않고 전기생리현상과 임상양상, 병리 소견과의 상관관계도 명확하지 않다. 난치성 측두엽 간질로 수술을 받은 소아 환자를 대상으로 임상 양상, 뇌신경영상, 뇌파 및 수술 소견 등을 기술하였고 소아 측두엽 간질의 특징을 정의하고 뇌파와 병리 소견 사이의 관계를 비교해보고자 하였다. 방 법 : 1995년 1월부터 2005년 12월까지 서울대학교 병원에서 난치성 간질로 수술을 받았던 17세 이하의 측두엽 간질환자 중에서 Engel class II 이상이었던 18명을 대상으로 하여 이들의 연령 및 성별 분포, 경련 발작의 임상적 특징, 원인 질환, 수술 치료 및 경과 등에 대해 조사하였다. 모든 환아에서 MRI, SPECT, PET 검사 소견과 뇌파, 병리 소견을 비교하였다. 결 과: 소아의 난치성 측두엽 간질의 수술 요법은 성적이 우수하였다. 소아의 측두엽 간질은 성인과 달리 외측두엽 간질이 대부분(61.1%)이었고 원인 질환이 두 가지 이상인 경우(44.4%)가 흔하였다. MRI는 병리 소견을 예측할 수 있는 지표가 되지 못하였다. 발작 양상은 전형적인 측두엽 간질보다 복잡하였고 손의 이긴장증이나 강직, 고개 돌리기는 편측화에 도움이 되었다. 뇌파 소견과 병변이 항상 일치하는 것은 아니었고 이는 외측두엽 간질에서 보다 뚜렷하였다. 발작파가 델타파로 시작하는 경우 외측두엽 간질을 의심할 수 있었고 측두엽의 앞쪽에서 시작하는 경우에는 내측두엽 간질을 시사하였다. 신경절교종은 규칙적인 베타파로 시작하는 경향이 있었다. 결 론: 소아의 측두엽 간질은 성인보다 복잡한 임상 양상을 보이며 원인 질환이 다양하여 쉽게 편측화, 국소화할 수 없다. 따라서 정밀한 국소화를 통해 절제 부위를 정하기 위해서는 임상 양상, 신경방사선학적 소견, 뇌파 소견 등을 종합적으로 평가해야 할 것이다. Purpose : Temporal lobe epilepsy(TLE) is now recognized as a distinct syndrome in adults. The seizure evolution in adult patients is well characterized, manifesting initially with an aura, behavioral arrest, automatism, and secondary generalized tonic-clonic seizures. In contrast, relatively few studies are available for the pediatric age group. In the present study, we investigated children undergoing temporal lobectomy for refractory seizures and correlated the pathologic findings with clinical presentations. Methods : The records of the pediatric patients admitted at the Seoul National Children's Hospital for epilepsy surgery between January 1995 and December 2005 were reviewed. Then, eighteen patients were included in this study. The clinical records were reviewed in terms of the patient profiles imaging findings, surgical techniques, and pathologic findings. The seizure outcomes were described according to the Engel's classification. Results : The postsurgical outcomes were favorable. Lateral temporal epilepsy was more common in childhood than in adulthood. Dual pathology was commonly found. Arm dystonia or tonic arm elevation have a lateralizing value. Head turning may have a lateralizing value based upon a time sequence. The brain MRI was less predictable for pathologic findings. The ictal EEG cannot always have a localizing value. Delta beginning in the ictal rhythm may suggest lateral lobe epilepsy. Anterior temporal beginning of the ictal location may suggest mesial temporal lobe epilepsy. Ganglioglioma tends to cause rhythmic beta activities at the beginning of the ictal event. Conclusion : TLE in childhood shows more complex and atypical clinical manifestations and have more variable etiologies. No single presurgical investigation can be a good predictable value to localization or lateralization.

      • S-475 : Irinotecan plus Capecitabine in TNBC Relapsed after Chemotherapy with Anthracycline and Taxane

        The standard regimen has not been determined yet for taxane- and anthracycline-refractory triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). Capecitabine was approved by Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of the advanced breast cancer and has efficacy in the treatment of advanced breast cancer refractory to anthracycline and taxane. Irinotecan has synergism with 5-fluorouracil and shows efficacy in the advanced breast cancer. Here, we report a patient with TNBC who relapsed with wide spread bone and lung metastasis shortly after adjuvant anthracycline followed by taxane chemotherapy. She achieved metabolic complete response (CR) after irinotecan and capecitabine combination chemotherapy and showed 10-month of progression-free survival and 22-month. She relapsed with and died of brain metastasis without any definite signs of progression of the lung and bone lesions that she had had before irinotecan and capecitabine combination chemotherapy. To validate this favorable result, larger clinical trials are warranted in metastatic or relapsed TNBC patients.
