A Model for Computer-Aided Process Planning System in Flexible Manufacturing Systems

        Kang, Young-Sig,Hahm, Hyo-Joon,Rim, Suk-Chul,Kim, Seung-Baum The Korean Society for Quality Management 1994 품질경영학회지 Vol.22 No.1

Most of computer-aided process planning(CAPP) systems have been developed to automate the process planning function. In this paper, we describe an analytical model for a CAPP system in order to improve the performance of production system in flexible manufacturing systems(FMSs) for computer intergrated manufacturing(CIM) architecture. This paper proposes an optimal process planning that minimizes the load time by minimizing the cycle time and the number of workstations using Kang and Hahm's heuristic approach so as to improve the performance of production system under the batch production of discrete products. We also perform simulation using SIMAN language to campare the line utilization of each for various product types. The proposed algorithm can be implemented in existing FMSs for on-line control of product quantity using programmable logic controllers(PLC) and communication devices.

      • Comparative Glycopeptide Analysis for Protein Glycosylation by Liquid Chromatography and Tandem Mass Spectrometry: Variation in Glycosylation Patterns of Site-Directed Mutagenized Glycoprotein

Hahm, Young Hye,Hahm, Sung Ho,Jo, Hyoun Young,Ahn, Yeong Hee Hindawi 2018 International journal of analytical chemistry Vol.2018 No.-

Glycosylation is one of the most important posttranslational modifications for proteins, including therapeutic antibodies, and greatly influences protein physiochemical properties. In this study, glycopeptide mapping of a reference and biosimilar recombinant antibodies (rAbs) was performed using liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (LC-ESI-MS/MS) and an automated Glycoproteome Analyzer (GPA) algorithm. The tandem mass analyses for the reference and biosimilar samples indicate that this approach proves to be highly efficient in reproducing consistent analytical results and discovering the implications of different rAb production methods on glycosylation patterns. Furthermore, the comparative analysis of a mutagenized rAb glycoprotein proved that a single amino acid mutation in the Fc portion of the antibody molecule caused increased variations in glycosylation patterns. These variations were also detected by the mass spectrometry method efficiently. This mapping method, focusing on precise glycopeptide identification and comparison for the identified glycoforms, can be useful in differentiating aberrant glycosylation in biosimilar rAb products.

      • One-dimensional confinement in crystallization of P(VDF-TrFE) thin films with transfer-printed metal electrode

        Hahm, Si-Woo,Kim, Donyoung,Khang, Dahl-Young Elsevier 2014 Polymer Vol.55 No.1

Abstract

The crystallization of thin polymer film depends on surface/interface properties, due to the fact that molecular chain motion is affected by the presence of the surface. In this work, we measured the ferroelectric properties, crystallinity, chain conformation and surface morphologies of one-dimensionally confined P(VDF-TrFE) thin films using transfer-printed Au film, annealed at elevated temperatures, from just below melting temperature up to 200 °C. Crystallization at low temperature, i.e., below melting temperature, the confinement effect has been found to be negligible. At high temperatures, however, confined crystallization has led to superior ferroelectric properties, compared to samples annealed without confinement. These observations have led to two- or three-layer model for those crystallized thin films with or without confinement, respectively. Further, the transfer-printing of metal as a confining surface has been found to be beneficial, compared to vacuum evaporation, due to deposition-induced damages on organic polymer. This confinement-induced retention of ferroelectricity in P(VDF-TrFE) thin films above its melting temperature can extend processing temperature in organic devices using the ferroelectric polymer, such as non-volatile organic memory devices.

Graphical abstract

[DISPLAY OMISSION]

      • Korea's Financial Crisis and Its Resolution

Hahm, Joon Ho 아태경제학회 1998 학술대회 논문집 Vol.- No.1

The present paper analyzes structural causes of the recent financial crisis in Korea. It also provides a comprehensive overview of the recent financial system restructuring effort. Korea's economic crisis has not been entirely unanticipated. Throughout the 90s, Korea's economic structure has become increasingly vulnerable to exogenous shocks. The structural vulnerability came from two sources-one external and one internal, both of which were in principle, caused by the systemic failure of risk allocating mechanisms. Major terms of trade shocks hit the economy and the collapse of export prices in 1996 and 1997 significantly damaged the corporate sector. A spate of corporate bankruptcies undermined the financial soundness and destabilized the financial market. To make matters worse, the lack of transparency and the government policy mishmash aggravated the situation, all of which being ended up with the financial crisis in Korea. Although there have been substantial progresses under the IMF program, given the imperatives and urgency. the restructuring process of the financial system needs to be considerably accelerated. Delays in the resolution of ailing and insolvent financial institutions and corporate firms are undermining banks' capacity to extend credits. It is necessary to pursue the bank recapitalization program more aggressively. The bankruptcy related laws need to be streamlined, and the corporate debt rescheduling should be based on the autonomous and voluntary decisions of associated financial institutions and firms. The prudential supervisory system also needs to be urgently strengthened. It must be recognized that the more painful and serious the reform is, the faster the Korean economy will be able to return to the normal growth path.

ON A SIMPLE HIGH ORDER NUMERICAL DIFFERENTIATION USING THE LAGRANGE INTERPOLATION

        HAHM, N.,YANG, M.,HONG, B. I. 한국전산응용수학회 2005 Journal of applied mathematics & informatics Vol.19 No.1

Numerical differentiation is one of the main topics which have been studied by many researchers. If we use the forward difference scheme or the centered difference scheme, the convergence rates to the derivative are O(h) and O($h^2$), respectively. In this paper, using the Lagrange Interpolation, we construct a simple high order numerical differentiation scheme which has the convergence rate O($h^{2k}$) if we have 2k+1 equally spaced nodes. Our scheme is constructive.

      • THE EFFECTS OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND WORLD-SYSTEM ON OCCUPATIONAL SEX SEGREGATION

HAHM, INHEE The Population and Development Studies Center Seou 1991 Korea Journal of Population and Development Vol.20 No.2

In order to better integrate women’s subordinate status into the world-system, I examined how processes of the new international division of labor and consequent underdevelopment affect women’s overall economic status and occupational sex segregation (OSS). For the empirical test, I used panel regression analyses with 71 cross national cases for 1960-80, and 1970-80 periods. The results of the analyses clearly show that world-system position, and economic development proved to have important consequences for OSS. However, the results unexpectedly show a negative relation for multinational corporation dependency, which are stronger for the longer term period than the shorter term. Of the intervening variables, the effects of female labor force participation show a negative effect on OSS, and those of the female share of the service sector show a strong positive effect on OSS at either point in time. Fertility did not show any significant effects on OSS.

      • Electroacupuncture Enhancement of Natural Killer Cell Activity Suppressed by Anterior Hypothalamic Lesions in Rats

        Hahm, Eu-Teum,Lee, Jong-Ju,Lee, Won-Kyu,Bae, Hyun-Soo,Min, Byung-Il,Cho, Young-Wuk WHO COLLABORATING CENTRE FOR TRADITIONAL MEDICINE 2004 東西醫學硏究所 論文集 Vol.2004 No.-

Background/Objective: Neuroendocrine hormones are derived from the hypothalamus. The central nervous system, particularly the hypothalamus, is capable of modulating the cytolytic activity of adherent natural killer (NK) cells. In addition, electroacupuncture (EA) stimulation of the Zusanli (ST36) acupoint enhances splenic NK cell and cytokine activities in rats. However, it is still unclear whether the anterior hypothalamus affects this immunomodulation. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to examine the effect of EA stimulation at the Zusanli acupoint on the NK cell activity modulated by an anterior hypothalamic area lesion. Methods: Male Sprague-Dawley rats were used. Lesions were placed by means of a direct current through a concentric electrode. The electric acupuncture stimulation was delivered for 30 min per each experiment at the right ST36 acupoint with an electrical stimulator. The NK cell activity of the spleen was measured by a fluorescence assay. Results: The NK cell activity was significantly reduced on the 2nd day after the lesion, but was restored to that of the sham group by the 7th day. However, when EA was applied for 2 days after the operation, the NK cell activity of the lesion group was restored to that of the sham group. After 7 days of EA, the NK cell activity of the lesion group was slightly higher than that of the sham group. Conclusion: From these results, we can suggest that EA enhances or restores the NK cell activity suppressed by an anterior hypothalamic area lesion.
