• Shear resistance of steel–concrete–steel deep beams with bidirectional webs

        Yu-Tao Guo,Xin Nie,Jiansheng Fan,Mu-Xuan Tao 국제구조공학회 2022 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.42 No.3

Steel–concrete–steel composite structures with bidirectional webs (SCSBWs) are used in large-scale projects and exhibit good mechanical performances and constructional efficiency. The shear behaviors of SCSBW deep beam members in key joints or in locations subjected to concentrated forces are of concern in design. To address this issue, experimental program is investigated to examine the deep-beam shear behaviors of SCSBWs, in which the cracking process and force transfer mechanism are revealed. Compared with the previously proposed truss model, it is found that a strut-and-tie model is more suitable for describing the shear mechanism of SCSBW deep beams with a short span and sparse transverse webs. According to the experimental analyses, a new model is proposed to predict the shear capacities of SCSBW deep beams. This model uses strut-and-tie concept and introduces web shear and dowel action to consider the coupled multi mechanisms. A stress decomposition method is used to distinguish the contributions of different shear-transferring paths. Based on case studies, a simplified model is further developed, and the explicit solution is derived for design efficiency. The proposed models are verified using experimental data, which are proven to have good accuracy and efficiency and to be suitable for practical application.

      • Multicentre Hospital-based Case-control Study of Diffuse Large B-cell Lymphoma in Shanghai, China

        Fan, Rong,Zhang, Lu-Yao,Wang, Hong,Yang, Bo,Han, Tao,Zhao, Xiao-Li,Wang, Wei,Wang, Xiao-Qin,Lin, Guo-Wei Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.7

Background: Several potential risk factors have been identified for diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL); however, epidemiological studies investigating the association between these risk factors and DLBCL have yielded inconsistent results. Objectives: To investigate potential medical, lifestyle, and environmental risk factors of DLBCL in Shanghai, China through a hospital-based case-control study. Method: One-hundred-and-forty-seven newly diagnosed DLBCL patients and 294 sex- and age-matched controls were recruited from 11 hospitals in Shanghai between 2003 and 2007. A standardized structured questionnaire was used to obtain patient data on demographics, medical history, family history, lifestyle, and environmental exposures. Conditional logistic regression models were used to estimate odds ratios (ORs), with 95% confidence intervals (CIs), for risk associated with each data category. Results: History of tuberculosis (TB) infection and "living on a farm" were positively associated with DLBCL (TB: OR=3.05, 95% CI: 1.19-7.80; farm: OR=1.82, 95% CI: 1.21-2.73). In contrast, taking traditional Chinese medicine was negatively associated with DLBCL (OR=0.36, 95% CI: 0.14-0.89). No significant correlation with DLBCL risk was found for any of the other potential risk factors (p>0.05), including but not limited to hair dyes, alcohol drinking, smoking, and home/workplace renovation within one year. Conclusions: Consistent with results from previous studies in other DLBCL case populations, traditional Chinese medicine appeared to have a direct or indirect protective effect against DLBCL. However, this study also identified a possible predisposition for DLBCL in TB sufferers and farmers.

      • PKM2 Regulates Hepatocellular Carcinoma Cell Epithelial-mesenchymal Transition and Migration upon EGFR Activation

        Fan, Fang-Tian,Shen, Cun-Si,Tao, Li,Tian, Chao,Liu, Zhao-Guo,Zhu, Zhi-Jie,Liu, Yu-Ping,Pei, Chang-Song,Wu, Hong-Yan,Zhang, Lei,Wang, Ai-Yun,Zheng, Shi-Zhong,Huang, Shi-Le,Lu, Yin Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.5

Pyruvate kinase isozyme type M2 (PKM2) was first found in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and its expression has been thought to correlate with prognosis. A large number of studies have demonstrated that epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is a crucial event in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and associated metastasis, resulting in enhanced malignancy of HCC. However, the roles of PKM2 in HCC EMT and metastasis remain largely unknown. The present study aimed to determine the effects of PKM2 in EGF-induced HCC EMT and elucidate the molecular mechanisms in vitro. Our results showed that EGF promoted EMT in HCC cell lines as evidenced by altered morphology, expression of EMT-associated markers, and enhanced invasion capacity. Furthermore, the present study also revealed that nuclear translocation of PKM2, which is regulated by the ERK pathway, regulated ${\beta}$-catenin-TCF/LEF-1 transcriptional activity and associated EMT in HCC cell lines. These discoveries provide evidence of novel roles of PKM2 in the progression of HCC and potential therapeutic target for advanced cases.

      • Effect of original layer thicknesses on the interface bonding and mechanical properties of TiAl laminate composites

        Fan, Minyu,Domblesky, Joseph,Jin, Kai,Qin, Liang,Cui, Shengqiang,Guo, Xunzhong,Kim, Naksoo,Tao, Jie Elsevier 2016 Materials & Design Vol.99 No.-

Abstract

It is of great significance in high-temperature aeroengine applications for large-surface-area TiAl laminate composites to be fabricated into Ti-Al3Ti parts by plastic forming and subsequent vacuum hot pressing. Then the original layer thicknesses have an important influence on the interface bonding and mechanical properties of TiAl laminate composites, but only few reports about it have been published so far. In the present study, vacuum hot pressing was employed to fabricate TiAl laminate composites using Ti and Al foils of different thickness. The resulting interface bond and mechanical properties of TiAl laminate composites were then studied to determine the optimum sheet configuration and thickness. To further assess their formability and develop a forming limit diagram (FLD), 0.1/0.15 TiAl laminate composites were operated on bending and forming tests to provide guidance for subsequent plastic forming of complex geometries. The results indicated that hot pressed laminates composed of alternating 0.1 (Al) and 0.15 (Ti) mm thick sheets exhibited enhanced superior interface bonding and mechanical properties compared with 0.2/0.25 and 0.4/0.4 sheets. The 0.1/0.15 TiAl laminate composites had excellent bending characteristics and reasonable formability. Fabrication of a drawn cup further confirms the potential for hot pressed TiAl laminate composites to be fabricated into complex shapes.

Highlights

The large-surface-area TiAl laminate composites were prepared by vacuum hot pressing.

The effect of original layer thicknesses on the interface bonding and mechanical properties was investigated.

Bending and forming tests proved the excellent bending characteristics and reasonable formability

Fabrication of a drawn cup further confirmed the potential for complex shapes.

Graphical abstract

[DISPLAY OMISSION]

Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Thin-Multilayer Ti/Al Laminates Prepared by One-Step Explosive Bonding

        Fan, M.,Yu, W.,Wang, W.,Guo, X.,Jin, K.,Miao, R.,Hou, W.,Kim, N.,Tao, J. Springer Science + Business Media 2017 JOURNAL OF MATERIALS ENGINEERING AND PERFORMANCE Vol.26 No.1

Thin-multilayer Ti/Al laminates were prepared by one-step explosive bonding method to investigate the interface bonding and mechanical properties owing to their potential application in aerospace and auto industry. It was found that Ti/Al laminates prepared at the detonation velocity of 2100 m/s exhibited superior surface quality without any defects in comparison with other detonation velocities owing to the optimum explosive pressure and impact velocity. The interface morphologies and element distribution of Ti/Al laminates prepared at the detonation velocity of 2100 m/s were characterized by means of SEM and EDS. The results indicated that the linear and wavy bonding interface coexisted and element diffusion occurred in the interfacial zone. Furthermore, thin-multilayer Ti/Al laminates possessed high microhardness, excellent interlaminar shear and tensile properties.

Fabrication of ZIF-8/TiO2 electrospinning nanofibers for synergistic photodegradation in dyeing wastewater

        Liusha Cen,Tao Tang,Fan Yu,Han Wu,Chengcai Li,Hailin Zhu,Yuhai Guo 한국공업화학회 2023 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.126 No.-

Semiconductormetal–organic framework (MOF) hybrid photocatalysts become a significant material totreating dyeing wastewater recently. Zinc-based metal–organic framework (ZIF-8) stands out amongnumerous photocatalysts for its stability and simplicity to prepare. In this work, the gourd-shaped ZIF-8/TiO2 nanocomposites are prepared in situ on anatase TiO2 by precursor method, and then ZIF-8/TiO2nanocomposites is supported on PVDF electrospinning nanofibers by blending method to form ZIF-8/TiO2 nanofibers (ZIF-8/TiO2 NFs). We compare the degradation ability of Rhodamine B by ZIF-8/TiO2NFs with different mass ratios and load rates. When the mass ratio of ZIF-8 to TiO2 is 2:1 and the loadingrate is 10%, the photocatalytic degradation efficiency of ZIF-8/TiO2 NFs reached 95.4%, and the degradationremained as high as 88.7% after cycling five times. The characterization results showed that ZIF-8 andTiO2 are connected by N Ti O chemical bond, which narrows the band gap and rebars the recombinationof the electron-hole pairs. The synergistic action of ZIF-8 and TiO2 largely improves the photocatalyticcapacity of ZIF-8/TiO2 NFs.

( Jia Hao Fan ),( Ming Que Xiang ),( Qing Ling Li ),( Hong Tao Shi ),( Jin Jun Guo ) 대한간학회 2016 Gut and Liver Vol.10 No.3

Background/Aims: The recognition of a correlation between patatin-like phospholipase domain containing-protein 3 (PNPLA3) rs738409 (C>G) and the severity of liver steatosis or fibrosis in chronic hepatitis C (CHC) has not reached a consensus. This meta-analysis sought to investigate with accuracy the association between the PNPLA3 rs738409 (C>G) polymorphism and liver steatosis and advanced fibrosis in CHC patients. Methods: We performed a comprehensive literature search from the PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Google Scholar databases up to December 31, 2014. Crude odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated. Statistical analyses were performed using Stata 12.0 software. Results: The meta-analysis revealed the severity of liver fibrosis was significantly higher in CHC patients with PNPLA3 rs738409 GG in Caucasians (versus CC+CG: OR, 2.29; 95% CI, 1.57 to 3.35; p<0.05) but not Asian populations. In Caucasians, liver steatosis was also more severe in CHC patients with rs738409 GG (versus CC+CG; OR, 4.33; 95% CI, 2.59 to 7.22; p<0.05). The sensitivity analysis indicated the results of this meta-analysis were stable and no publication bias was detected. Conclusions: PNPLA3 rs738409 (C>G) was associated with the risk of both advanced liver fibrosis and steatosis in patients with CHC, especially among Caucasian populations. Effects of surfactant contamination on oxygen mass transfer in fine bubble aeration process

        Lu Qi,Hongchen Wang,Xulu Chen,Guo-hua Liu,Haitao Fan,Meidi Li,Tao Luo 한국화학공학회 2013 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.30 No.9

The effects of anionic, cationic, and non-ionic surfactants (SDS, SDBS, CTAB and Tween20) on oxygen mass transfer (OMT) in fine bubble aeration systems were investigated. The overall gas-liquid volumetric mass transfer coefficient (KLa), specific interfacial area (a), and liquid-side mass transfer coefficient (KL) parameters were used to assess the influence of the surfactants. At the same concentration, the different surfactants were observed to influence the KLa value as follows: KLa (SDBS)>KLa (SDS)>KLa (tween20)>KLa (CTAB). For all used surfactants, the overall trends showed a significant decrease in the KLa value at low concentrations (0-5mg/L), while the KLa value recovered somewhat at high concentrations (10-20mg/L). The decrease to the KL value was found to be much larger than increase in the a value in the presence of surfactants. Furthermore, a simple model was established that provides an OMT prediction for different surfactants.

Effect of aberrantly methylated androgen receptor target gene PCDH7 on the development of androgen-independent prostate cancer cells

        Siqi Xu,Xiaoyan Wu,Zhihua Tao,Hongsheng Li1,Chenliang Fan,Songjin Chen,Jianwei Guo,Yao Ning,Xuqi Hu 한국유전학회 2020 Genes & Genomics Vol.42 No.3

Background Androgen-independent prostate cancer (AIPC) is an extremely malignant tumor developed from the androgen dependent (ADPC). However, the mechanism of transition process from ADPC to AIPC remains unknown. Objective Here we aimed to identify the androgen receptor (AR) target gene and its roles in AIPC. Methods Target genes of AR were identified by ChIP-seq in AIPC cells. AR target gene PCDH7 was detected by real time PCR and western blot. Methylation of PCDH7 was measured by bisulfite sequencing and bisulfite amplicon sequencing. Cell growth, invasion and apoptosis were measured by CCK-8, transwell and flow cytometry, respectively. Results AR was significantly enriched in the upstream of PCDH7 gene. The expression of PCDH7 was significantly decreased, while the methylation of PCDH7 was increased in the AIPC cells compared to the ADPC cells. DNA methyltransferase inhibitor significantly suppressed the methylation and increased the mRNA and protein level of PCDH7. Moreover, overexpression of DNMT1 remarkably reduced the mRNA and protein level of PCDH7. DNA methyltransferase inhibitor decreased the cell growth and invasion while promote the cell apoptosis in the AIPC cells. AR significantly target PCDH7, whose hypermethylation may repress cell growth and invasion, and promote apoptosis in AIPC. Conclusions This study might provide a novel potential target for the treatment of AIPC.
