Microscopic study of zinc nanoparticles synthesised using thermosetting polymer

The present study reports the novel synthesis of Zinc nanoparticles (Zn NPs) by thermal decomposition method and its characterisation by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM), and X-ray Diffraction Measurements (XRD). Synthesis of Zn NPs was achieved by using thermosetting polymer and zinc salts as precursor. Zn NPs were obtained on calcination at 850 °C for 30 min. SEM study reveals that synthesized nanoparticles are spherical in shape. XRD analysis shows that the Zn NPs formed are low crystalline in nature.

Potato plants carrying the Ry gene are extremely resistance to a number of potyviruses, but it is not known which variety expressed the resistance. In this investigation, combined classical and molecular techniques were used to identify virus resistance potatoes. Mechanical inoculation of 32 varieties of Korean potato cultivars, with potato virus Y (PVY), induced various symptoms, such as mosaic, yellowing, necrosis, mottle, vein clearing and vein bending. Different virus spreading patterns were observed, such as highly sensitive, moderate and resistant to $PVY^o$ inoculated leaves in different cultivars. From the results of double antibody sandwich-enzyme links immunosorbant assays (DAS-ELISA), coupled with reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), Winter valley and Golden valley were found to be highly susceptible and resistant cultivars to $PVY^o$ respectively. TEM was used as a complementary method to conform the localization of the virus in leaf tissues. TEM detect virus particles in Golden valley, where, ELISA and RT-PCR were unable to detect the CP gene. However, the interior part of the tissues was severely deformed in $PVY^o$ infected Winter valley, than Golden valley The Ry gene is involved in an induced response in $PVY^o$ infected Golden valley plants. The methods described in this study could be applied for the screening and development of antiviral potatoes.

Microstructural analysis and optimization of welding parameters for AA1100 welded plates

Friction stir welding (FSW) process is used in this research work to optimize the welding process parameters of welding ofAA1100 aluminium alloy. Taguchi grey relational analysis is used for optimization of the process parameters. The weldingprocess parameters considered in this research work are tool rotational speed, feed and axial load against the responseshardness, tensile strength at room and elevated temperature and % elongation at room and elevated temperature. L27orthogonal array is used to conduct the experiments and the impact of the process parameters on the responses are analyzedand presented. The characterization of the weld is analyzed and it is seen that the fine dimples projects ductile fracture andthe cracks present on flat surface exhibits brittle fracture.
Optimization of stir casting process parameter using response surface meth odology

Response surface methodology is used to optimize the stir casting process parameters for the aluminium metal matrixcomposite reinforced with boron carbide with several weight percentages. The stir casting process parameters used in thiswork are the weight percentage of the reinforcing element, stir casting mixing time and particle size of the reinforcing elementused in the fabrication of the metal matrix composite. The levels are chosen and central composite design is implemented tooptimize the tensile strength of the metal matrix composite. The analysis of variance is calculated and the estimated regressioncoefficients for the tensile strength are obtained. Also the residual plots and the contour plots are plotted and discussed here.

Objective: Vascular Dementia (VaD), is associated with metabolic conditions. Diabetes is a major risk factor for the development of VaD. This study investigates the efficacy of ulinastatin (UTI) and sulforaphane (SUL) in streptozotocin (STZ)-diabetes induced vascular endothelium dysfunction and related dementia. Methods: Single dose STZ (50 mg/kg i.p.) was administered to Albino Wistar rats (male, 200−250 g). Morris water maze and attentional set shifting tests were used to assess the spatial learning, memory, reversal learning, and executive functioning in animals. Body weight, serum glucose, serum nitrite/nitrate, vascular endothelial function, aortic superoxide anion, brains’ oxidative markers (thiobarbituric acid reactive species-TBARS, reduced glutathione-GSH, superoxide dismutase-SOD, and catalase-CAT), inflammatory markers (IL-6, IL-10, TNF-, and myeloperoxidase-MPO), acetylcholinesterase activity-AChE, blood brain barrier (BBB) permeability and histopathological changes were also assessed. UTI (10,000 U/kg) and SUL (25 mg/kg) were used alone as well as in combination, as the treatment drugs. Donepezil (0.5 mg/kg) was used as a positive control. Results: STZ-administered rats showed reduction in body weight, learning, memory, reversal learning, executive functioning, impairment in endothelial function, BBB permeability, increase in serum glucose, brains’ oxidative stress, inflammation, AChE-activity, BBB permeability and histopathological changes. Administration of UTI and SUL alone as well as in combination, significantly and dose dependently attenuated the STZ-diabetes-induced impairments in the behavioral, endothelial, and biochemical parameters. Conclusion: STZ administration caused diabetes and VaD which was attenuated by the administration of UTI and SUL. Therefore, these agents may be studied further for the assessment of their full potential in diabetes induced VaD.
