Efficacy of Ulinastatin and Sulforaphane Alone or in Combination in Rat Model of Streptozotocin Diabetes Induced Vascular Dementia

        Poonam Sharma,Prachi Kaushik,Swati Jain,Brij Mohan Sharma,Rajendra Awasthi,Giriraj Thirupathirao Kulkarni,Bhupesh Sharma 대한정신약물학회 2021 CLINICAL PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY AND NEUROSCIENCE Vol.19 No.3

Objective: Vascular Dementia (VaD), is associated with metabolic conditions. Diabetes is a major risk factor for the development of VaD. This study investigates the efficacy of ulinastatin (UTI) and sulforaphane (SUL) in streptozotocin (STZ)-diabetes induced vascular endothelium dysfunction and related dementia. Methods: Single dose STZ (50 mg/kg i.p.) was administered to Albino Wistar rats (male, 200−250 g). Morris water maze and attentional set shifting tests were used to assess the spatial learning, memory, reversal learning, and executive functioning in animals. Body weight, serum glucose, serum nitrite/nitrate, vascular endothelial function, aortic superoxide anion, brains’ oxidative markers (thiobarbituric acid reactive species-TBARS, reduced glutathione-GSH, superoxide dismutase-SOD, and catalase-CAT), inflammatory markers (IL-6, IL-10, TNF-, and myeloperoxidase-MPO), acetylcholinesterase activity-AChE, blood brain barrier (BBB) permeability and histopathological changes were also assessed. UTI (10,000 U/kg) and SUL (25 mg/kg) were used alone as well as in combination, as the treatment drugs. Donepezil (0.5 mg/kg) was used as a positive control. Results: STZ-administered rats showed reduction in body weight, learning, memory, reversal learning, executive functioning, impairment in endothelial function, BBB permeability, increase in serum glucose, brains’ oxidative stress, inflammation, AChE-activity, BBB permeability and histopathological changes. Administration of UTI and SUL alone as well as in combination, significantly and dose dependently attenuated the STZ-diabetes-induced impairments in the behavioral, endothelial, and biochemical parameters. Conclusion: STZ administration caused diabetes and VaD which was attenuated by the administration of UTI and SUL. Therefore, these agents may be studied further for the assessment of their full potential in diabetes induced VaD.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of fruit juices on Multi-Drug Resistant (MDR) bacterial pathogens involved in Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) among tribal women in the district Anuppur, Madhya Pradesh, India. Methods: Fresh juices of lemon (Citrus limon), amla/Indian gooseberry (Phyllanthus emblica), pineapple (Ananas comosus), mosambi/sweet lime (Citrus limetta), orange (Citrus sinensis), kiwi (Actinidia deliciosa), and pomegranate (Punica granatum) fruits were evaluated for in vitro antibacterial activity against bacterial pathogens involved in UITs and STIs among tribal women. Physico-chemical analysis of fresh fruits was also carried out by measuring the pH, moisture, protein, fat, crude fibre, carbohydrate, and ascorbic acid content. Results: Lemon and amla juice showed better antibacterial activity against the pathogens as compared to other juices. MIC results fruit juices against UTIs and STIs pathogens vary depending on the specific pathogen and juice chemical constituents. The physico-chemical analysis showed that the moisture content was highest in mosambi (90%), followed by orange (87%). Ascorbic acid content was found highest in amla (540 mg/100 g), followed by kiwi (90.3 mg/100 g). Pomegranate showed highest concentration of carbohydrate (15.28 g/100 g), fat (1.28 g/100 g), and protein (1.65 g/100 g). Lemon juice had lowest pH of 2.20, followed by amla 2.67. Conclusion: The lemon juice showed highest antibacterial activity against MDR bacterial pathogens involved in UTIs and STIs among tribal women in district Anuppur, Madhya Pradesh, India. The low pH of lemon may be responsible for its high antibacterial activity as compared to other juices.

ON A GENERALIZED HYPERGEOMETRIC OPERATOR AND ITS MAPPING STRUCTURES

POONAM SHARMA,RAVINDER K. RAINA 장전수학회 2016 Proceedings of the Jangjeon mathematical society Vol.19 No.3

In this paper, a generalized linear operator Iρ,μ is dened and studied. Certain mapping structures of the operator Iρ,μ are inves- tigated for the class Rτ γ(A,B) and for some other well-known function classes. We also consider applications of our main results of the intro- duced operator involving Wright's generalized hypergeometric function. Special cases of the deduced results are also mentioned.

      • An Improved Region Based Active Contour Model for Medical Image Segmentation

Seema Chack,Poonam Sharma 보안공학연구지원센터(IJSIP) 2015 International Journal of Signal Processing, Image Vol.8 No.1

Level set methods have been widely used in image processing specially in image segmentation. This paper presents a new region based active contour model in a variational level set formulation for segmentation of real world images in the presence of intensity in-homogeneity and noise. In this paper, we derive a local intensity clustering property in the image domain with better distance regularization function. The level set methods sometimes develop irregularities during its evolution state, which may cause numerical complexity and destroy the stability of evolution. This distance regularization function is able to maintain the desired shape of level set function smoothly and eliminates the need of re-initialization of LSF. The local clustering criterion function is defined for image intensities in neighborhood of each point. Now, this local clustering criterion of point is then integrated with respect to the neighborhood of entire points for global clustering criterion of image segmentation. In which bias function is also evaluated to intensity inhomogeneity correction. Implementation of our method shows that, it is more robust to initialization, and more accurate than conventional model.

Preparation of Zinc-Doped CdSe Nanoparticles and Determination of Their Nonlinear Optical Properties using Z-Scan Technique in Thick Media

        Poonam Gaur,B. P. Malik,Dimple Sharma,Arun Gaur 성균관대학교(자연과학캠퍼스) 성균나노과학기술원 2015 NANO Vol.10 No.2

The present work aims at the synthesis of Zinc-doped CdSe (Zn:CdSe) nanoparticles with average size near the Bohr radius by wet chemical method. The synthesized nanoparticles have been characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV-Vis spectrometer is used for the determination of bandgap and crystallite size is estimated using Debye–Scherrer formula and Brus equation. The nonlinear optical property that is excitonic nonlinear absorption and the wavelength dependence of nonlinear absorption has also been measured near the excitonic transitions involving the lowest electron state (1S) and one of the hole states 1S3/2(h). We observe the saturable absorption (SA), which can be described by a third-order and a fifth-order nonlinear process for Zn:CdSe nanocrystals. The irradiance and wavelength dependence of the excitonic nonlinearity are explained by two-level model. The calculations have been performed with the help of Z-scan experimental setup using Handy Compact Q-switched pulsed Nd:YAG laser (HYL-101 Quanta System).

Three dimensional hollow sulphide nanocomposites for supercapacitor electrodes

        Siwatch Poonam,Sharma Kriti,Manyani Nirmal,Kaur Ravneet,Tripathi S.K. 한국물리학회 2023 Current Applied Physics Vol.53 No.-

The transition metal sulphides have gained sufficient attraction due to their high theoretical capacitance, low electronegativity, good thermal and electrical conductivity and good redox behaviour. In the present work, nanocomposites of nickel cobalt sulphide (NiCoS), zinc cobalt sulphide (ZnCoS), copper cobalt sulphide (CuCoS) and nickel-zinc-copper cobalt sulphide (NiZnCuCoS) have been prepared, by hydrothermal synthesis method, for their use as the supercapacitor electrode material. The X-ray diffraction analysis, Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy images and UV–Visible studies suggest the formation of quantum dots (as the crystallite size is in the range of 3.5 nm–6.0 nm) in all the nanocomposites. The aim of this study is to observe the change in the electrochemical properties of the transition metal sulphides by multi-metal doping. The electrochemical measurements reveal that among all the prepared nanocomposites, highest specific capacitance (150 F g-1 at 5 mV s-1) has been exhibited by CuCoS nanocomposites (nanowires like structure) whereas highest potential window (1.7 V) and hence highest energy density (16.5 W h kg-1 at 0.1 A g-1) has been exhibited by NiZnCuCoS nanocomposites. Presently, the main goal of supercapacitors is to provide high energy density. It is observed that multi-metal sulphides (NiZnCuCoS), when used as the supercapacitor electrode, provide better electrochemical performance which may be owing to the specific nanosheets like structures as well as good synergism between Ni, Zn, Cu and Co transition metals. Hence it is observed that by multi-metal doping, the supercapacitive behaviour of transition metal sulphides has improved.

RELATIVE RELATION MODULES OF FINITE ELEMENTARY ABELIAN p-GROUPS

Yamin, Mohammad,Sharma, Poonam Kumar Korean Mathematical Society 2014 대한수학회보 Vol.51 No.4

Let E be a free product of a finite number of cyclic groups, and S a normal subgroup of E such that $$E/S{\sim_=}G$$ is finite. For a prime p, $\hat{S}=S/S^{\prime}S^p$ may be regarded as an $F_pG$-module via conjugation in E. The aim of this article is to prove that $\hat{S}$ is decomposable into two indecomposable modules for finite elementary abelian p-groups G.

      • Effect of fractional order on energy ratios at the boundary surface of elastic-piezothermoelastic media

Kumar, Rajneesh,Sharma, Poonam 테크노프레스 2016 Multiscale and multiphysics mechanics Vol.1 No.4

In the present investigation reflection and transmission of plane waves at an elastic half space and piezothermoelastic solid half space with fractional order derivative is discussed. The piezothermoelastic solid half space is assumed to have 6 mm type symmetry and assumed to be loaded with an elastic half space. It is found that the amplitude ratios of various reflected and refracted waves are functions of angle of incidence, frequency of incident wave and are influenced by the piezothermoelastic properties of media. The expressions of amplitude ratios and energy ratios are obtained in closed form. The energy ratios are computed numerically using amplitude ratios for a particular model of graphite and Cadmium Selenide (CdSe). The variations of energy ratios with angle of incidence are shown graphically. The conservation of energy across the interface is verified. Some cases of interest are also deduced from the present investigation.
