Objectives: During recent decades, there has been limited attention on the seasonal pattern of pertussis within a high vaccine coverage population. This study aimed to compare the seasonal patterns of clinical suspected pertussis cases with those of laboratory confirmed cases in Iran. Methods: The current study was conducted using time series methods. Time variables included months and seasons during 2011-2013. The effects of seasons and months on the incidence of pertussis were estimated using analysis of variance or Kruskal-Wallis. Results: The maximum average incidence of clinically confirmed pertussis was 23.3 in July (p = 0.04), but the maximum incidence of clinical suspected pertussis was 115.7 in May (p = 0.6). The maximum seasonal incidences of confirmed and clinical pertussis cases were reported in summer (average: 12, p = 0.004), and winter (average: 108.1; p = 0.4), respectively. Conclusion: The present study showed that the seasonal pattern of laboratory confirmed pertussis cases is highly definite and different from the pattern of clinical suspected cases.

One of the major challenges for stem cell therapy of ischemic organs is that the transplanted cells are confronted with nutrient deficiency and oxidative stress. Previous studies have indicated that pretreatment of stem cells with cytoprotective phytochemicals improves their therapeutic potential. This study was aimed to investigate whether rosmarinic acid can enhance survival of adipose tissue-derived stem cells (ASCs) in nutrient-deficient culture as an in vitro model of ischemia. The ASCs were isolated from subcutaneous adipose tissue of male adult Wistar rats and incubated for 24 h with rosmarinic acid in nutrient-deficient (glucose- and serum-deprived, GSD) culture medium. In a separate experiment, ASCs were pre-incubated for 4 h with rosmarinic acid and then exposed to GSD conditions for 24 h. The viability of ASCs was determined using thiazolyl blue tetrazolium bromide assays. The effect of rosmarinic acid on the cell cycle was evaluated using propidium iodide staining. GSD conditions significantly decreased the viability of ASCs and enhanced the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), lipid peroxidation, sub-G1 cell populations, and necrosis. Both pre-incubation and incubation of ASCs with 0.75∼6 M rosmarinic acid significantly increased cell viability in GSD conditions. Rosmarinic acid further decreased the level of ROS, lipid peroxidation, the percent of cells in sub-G1 stage, and necrosis in GSD conditions. These findings suggest that rosmarinic acid enhances survival of ASCs cultured in nutrient-deficient conditions through promoting antioxidant effects. Therefore, rosmarinic acid may help preserve ASCs survival after they are transplanted into ischemic organs.
Intellectual Bases and Practical Policy of the Iranian 9th Government in International Relations

Foreign policy of every country has its own special features. Foreign policy in the Islamic Republic of Iran has been shaped in accordance with its revolutionary freedom-seeking ideals mentioned in its constitution; views of the Supreme Leader and based on own its principles of realization of dignity, wisdom and expedience. The 9th Iranian government led by President Ahmadinejad as its first run of presidency (2005-2009) believes that by adopting its special approaches have taken long strides toward realization of Iran’s true status in the international arena. The most significant feature of this government has been fundamentalism which means here, a return to the ideals and principles of the Islamic revolution in international level that have special features. This article examines foreign policy features of the Iranian 9th government and its perspectives on international structures and also offers an evaluation of it from different aspects. It discusses how the current 10th government which is leading by President Ahmadinejad continues the same way in its foreign policy.
La(III) Selective Membrane Sensor Based on a New N-N Schiff's Base
Mohammad Reza Ganjali*,Parisa Matloobi,Maryam Ghorbani,Parviz Norouzi,Masoud Salavati-Niasari 대한화학회 2005 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.26 No.1
Bis(2-methylbenzaldehyde)butane-2,3-dihydrazone(TDSB) was used as new N-N Schiff's base which plays the role of an excellent ion carrier in the construction of a La(III) membrane sensor. The best performance was obtained with a membrane containing, 30% poly(vinyl chloride), 60% benzyl acetate, 6% TDSB and 4% sodium tetraphenyl borate. This sensor reveals a very good selectivity towards La(III) ions over a wide variety of cations, including alkali, alkaline earth, transition and heavy metal ions. The proposed electrode exhibits a Nernstian behavior (with slope of 19.8 mV per decade) over a wide concentration range (1.0 × 10−5-1.0 × 10−1 M). The detection limit of the sensor is 7.0 × 10−6 M. It has a very short response time, in the whole concentration range (~5 s), and can be used for at least twelve weeks in the pH range of 3.0-9.4. The proposed sensor was successfully applied as an indicator electrode for the potentiometric titration of a La(III) solution, with EDTA. It was also successfully applied in the determination of fluoride ions in three mouth wash preparations.

A cell surface display system with metalbinding properties was previously developed using CS3fimbriae, which are hollow tubes 20 nm-thick and 2 nm in diameter. In this study, hybrid CS3 pili were separated from recombinant Escherichia coli and entrapped in calcium alginate gel beads in order to improve their stabilization and also adsorption of heavy metals. The surface morphology of the gel beads containing pili was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Immunofluorescence microscopy was employed to confirm the attachment of nanobiofibers to the alginate beads. The effects of three variables (sodium alginate concentration, protein to alginate mass ratio, and bead size) at two levels each on Cd^(2+) biosorption efficiency were investigated by full factorial experimental design. A second-order polynomial equation modeled the design space for the process response of cadmium removal capacity. The optimal values of the factors were obtained as follows: 1% sodium alginate concentration, 0.25 protein to alginate mass ratio, and a 6 mm bead size. Under these conditions, Cd^(2+) was adsorbed at 45.45 mg/g to the nanobiofiber. The results indicate that the immobilized recombinant hybrid CS3 pili may be an appropriate biosorbent for removal of heavy metals from polluted aquatic environments.

The modified eccentric connectivity polynomial of a molecular graph, G, is defined as Λ(G,x) = [수식]where εG(a) is the eccentricity of vertex a and nG(a) is the sum of the degrees of its neighborhoods. In this paper, the polynomial for three infinite classes of fullerenes is computed.
Evaluation of strength properties of cement stabilized sand mixed with EPS beads and fly ash
Chenari, Reza Jamshidi,Fatahi, Behzad,Ghorbani, Ali,Alamoti, Mohsen Nasiri Techno-Press 2018 Geomechanics & engineering Vol.14 No.6
The importance of using materials cost effectively to enhance the strength and reduce the cost, and weight of earth fill materials in geotechnical engineering led researchers to seek for modifying the soil properties by adding proper additives. Lightweight fill materials made of soil, binder, water, and Expanded polystyrene (EPS) beads are increasingly being used in geotechnical practices. This paper primarily investigates the behavior of sandy soil, modified by EPS particles. Besides, the mechanical properties of blending sand, EPS and the binder material such as fly ash and cement were examined in different mixing ratios using a number of various laboratory studies including the Modified Standard Proctor (MSP) test, the Unconfined Compressive Strength (UCS) test, the California Bearing Ratio (CBR) test and the Direct Shear test (DST). According to the results, an increase of 0.1% of EPS results in a reduction of the density of the mixture for 10%, as well as making the mixture more ductile rather than brittle. Moreover, the compressive strength, CBR value and shear strength parameters of the mixture decreases by an increase of the EPS beads, a trend on the contrary to the increase of cement and fly ash content.
