Dynamic analysis and performance optimization of permendur cantilevered energy harvester

        Mojtaba Ghodsi,Hamidreza Ziaiefar,Morteza Mohammadzaheri,Farag K. Omar,Issam Bahadur 국제구조공학회 2019 Smart Structures and Systems, An International Jou Vol.23 No.5

The development of the low power application such as wireless sensors and health monitoring systems, attract a great attention to low power vibration energy harvesters. The recent vibration energy harvesters use smart materials in their structures to convert ambient mechanical energy into electricity. The frequent model of this harvesters is cantilevered beam. In the literature, the base excitation cantilevered harvesters are mainly investigated, and the related models are presented. This paper investigates a tip excitation cantilevered beam energy harvester with permendur. In the first section, the mechanical model of the harvester and magneto-mechanical model of the permendur are presented. Later, to find the maximum output of the harvester, based on the response surface method (RSM), some experiments are done, and the results are analyzed. Finally, to verify the results of RSM, a harvester with optimum design variables is made, and its output power is compared. The last comparison verifies the estimation of the RSM method which was about 381 uW/cm3. Frequency of Vertebral Endplate Modic Changes in Patients with Unstable Lumbar Spine and Its Effect on Surgical Outcome

        Seyyed Mohammad Ghodsi,Reza Rouhani,Sina Abdollahzade,Masoud Khadivi,Morteza Faghih Jouibari 대한척추외과학회 2015 Asian Spine Journal Vol.9 No.5

Study Design: Prospective cohort study. Purpose: In this study, we investigated the frequency of vertebral endplate Modic changes (MCs) and their effects on surgical outcomes in patients with unstable lumbar spines. Overview of Literature: Signal changes in endplates have been classified into three types by Modic. The prognostic role of MCs has been investigated in various spinal disorders. Methods: A series of 70 patients with clinical and radiographic unstable lumbar spine were included in the study. Endplate signal intensity was determined according to Modic classification. All patients underwent instrumented posterolateral fusion. Functional evaluation was made using the visual analog scale (VAS) and Oswestry disability index (ODI). Results: Eighteen patients (26%) had normal endplate intensity, 31 patients (44%) had MC type I, 20 patients (28%) had MC type II, and one patient (1.4%) had MC type III. Pain level VAS and ODI decreased significantly from the preoperative evaluation to the sixmonth and one-year postoperative evaluations. The surgical outcome (VAS and ODI) was not significantly different between the various types of MC. Conclusions: Posterolateral fusion is an effective treatment in patients with unstable lumbar spines. MC do not have a significant effect on the surgical outcome of these patients.

      • DPPA2 Protein Expression is Associated with Gastric Cancer Metastasis

Shabestarian, Hoda,Ghodsi, Mohammad,Mallak, Afsaneh Javdani,Jafarian, Amir Hossein,Montazer, Mehdi,Forghanifard, Mohammad Mahdi Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.18

Gastric cancer (GC) as the fourth most common cause of malignancies shows high rate of morbidity appropriating the second leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide. Developmental pluripotency associated-2 (DPPA2), cancer-testis antigen (CT100), is commonly expressed only in the human germ line and pluripotent embryonic cells but it is also present in a significant subset of malignant tumors. To investigate whether or not DPPA2 expression is recalled in GC, our aim in this study was to elucidate DPPA2 protein expression in gastric cancer. Fifty five GC tumor and their related margin normal tissues were recruited to evaluate DPPA2 protein expression and its probable associations with different clinicopathological features of the patients. DPPA2 was overexpressed in GC cases compared with normal tissues (P < .005). While DPPA2 expression was detected in all GC samples, its high expression was found in 23 of 55 tumor tissues (41.8%). Interestingly, 50 of 55 normal samples (90.9%) were negative for DPPA2 protein expression and remained 5 samples showed very low expression of DPPA2. DPPA2 protein expression in GC was significantly correlated with lymph node metastasis (p = 0.012). The clinical relevance of DPPA2 in GC illustrated that high level expression of this protein was associated with lymph node metastasis supporting this hypothesis that alteration in DPPA2 was associated with aggressiveness of gastric cancer and may be an early event in progression of the disease. DPPA2 may be introduced as a new marker for invasive and metastatic GCs.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Lead zirconate-titanate thick films of perovskite structure Pb(Zr0.52Ti0.48)O3 were fabricated on the curved surface of IN718 superalloy substrate using photochemical metal organic deposition technique. The films were heated at 200°C, irradiated by UV lamp (365nm, 6W) for 10min, pyrolyzed at 400°C, and subsequently annealed at 700°C for 1h after successive multi-step coating with 10wt.% excess PbO. Fairly smooth, dense, and crack-free polycrystalline thick films of Au/PZT/Au structure were deposited on IN718. The films were characterized to investigate the effect of photochemical deposition process and substrate on the crystalline, morphological, dielectric, ferroelectric and piezoelectric properties. Remanent polarization (<I>P</I> <I>r</I> =20.2μC/cm2), coercive field (<I>E</I> <I>c</I> =−10kV/cm), permittivity (<I>ε</I> <I>r</I> =324@1kHz), dielectric loss (<I>tanδ</I> ≈3%), and piezoelectric charge coefficient (<I>d</I> <I>33</I> =113.4pm/V) of the PZT thick film transducers were measured and interpreted as regards domain wall motions. • Truthful and Secure Routing in Ad Hoc Networks with Malicious and Selfish Nodes

Mehdi Kargar,Mohammad Ghodsi 보안공학연구지원센터 2009 International Journal of Security and Its Applicat Vol.3 No.1

Cooperation among nodes is important in ad hoc networks since in such networks nodes depend on each other for forwarding packets. However, cooperation in such operations consumes nodes energy and recourses. Therefore, it is necessary to design incentive mechanisms to enforce nodes to forward packets when the source and destination of the packet are other nodes in the network. We study routing in ad hoc and wireless networks from a game theoretic view point. Based on this view, the network consists of selfish and greedy nodes who accept payments for forwarding data for other nodes if the payments cover their individual costs incurred by forwarding data. Also, route falsification attacks are easy to launch by malicious nodes in ad hoc networks. These nodes falsify data and routes in the network. Thus, mitigating this attack is vital for the performance of the whole network. Previous routing protocols in ad hoc networks inspired by game theory just consider that network consists of selfish nodes. In this work, we consider that the network consists of malicious nodes too. Here we present a truthful and secure mechanism for routing in ad hoc networks that cope malicious and selfish nodes.

Construction Project Risk Assessment by using Adaptive-Network-based Fuzzy Inference System: An Empirical Study

Mehdi Ebrat,Reza Ghodsi 대한토목학회 2014 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.18 No.5

Managers require a good understanding about the nature of risks involved in a construction project because the duration, quality, and budget of projects can be affected by these risks. Thus, the identification of risks and the determination of their priorities in everyphase of the construction can assist project managers in planning and taking proper actions against those risks. Therefore, prioritizingrisks via the risk factors can increase the reliability of success. In this research, first the risks involved in construction projects hasbeen identified and arranged in a systematic hierarchical structure. Next, based on the obtained data an Adaptive Neuro-FuzzyInference System (ANFIS) has been designed for the evaluation of project risks. In addition, a stepwise regression model has alsobeen designed and its results are compared with the results of ANFIS. The results show that the ANFIS models are more satisfactoryin the assessment of construction projects risks. Our proposed methodology can be applied by managers of construction projects andpractitioners to assess of risk factor of construction projects in a proper manner.

Analysis of Parameter Effects on Electrostatic Induction Dielectric Sheet Conveyor Performance

Mehdi Modabberifar,Mojtaba Ghodsi,Yousef Hojjat 한국정밀공학회 2012 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol. No.

In recent years, electrostatic induction has been introduced as a new approach for transporting dielectric sheets. Electrostatic Induction Sheet Conveyor (EISC) is a kind of electrostatic induction actuator which can directly handle dielectric sheet objects, such as papers and plastic films in asynchronous state. The capability of sheet handling demands more studies to recognize parameters influencing thrust force and optimum driving frequency of dielectric sheets in this actuator. In this paper, using the proposed model in previous work, the effect of parameters including geometric parameters of slider and stator, electrical properties of dielectric sheet and environmental conditions on thrust force and optimum driving frequency of the actuator were analytically investigated.
