Two genetic loci, PKD1 and PKD2, have been identified as being responsible for ADPKD, but the presence of an intrafamilial clinical diversity suggests that there are disease-modifying loci. We studied the associations between polymorphism in the ecNOS gene, which are known to be associated with chronic tubulointerstitial and vascular changes, and ADPKD progression in Korean patients. A total of 112 individuals who had ADPKD and 41 normal control subjects were genotyped by PCR-RFLP, the Glu298Asp variant of ecNOS gene was discriminated with MboI. The distribution of the alleles for the ecNOS Glu298Asp polymorphism in ADPKD was: G 88 %, T 12 %, which was similar to the result of Korean population (95:5, p = 0.128) but different from Western controls (65:35, p = 0.000). No differences were found between the CRF and the non-CRF groups (p = 1.000) or the early hypertension and the normotension groups (p = 1.000). In conclusion, our results suggest that the polymorphism at Glu298Asp of ecNOS has no association with the renal progression in Korean ADPKD patients.

In this paper, we describe an advanced medical diagnostic system using multimedia technologies in network environment. In this system, doctors in remote sites perform medical diagnosis by exchanging information about patients and 3-D medical images of malfunctioning body parts, which are reconstructed from 2-D images such as MRI, CT, CR, Angio. The diagnostic conferencing system controls the conferencing process by exchanging audio, information about patients, hand positions, 3-D medical images and control data. 3-D medical images are reconstructed by a ray casting method that uses an analytical integration. Medical database consists of basic information about patients, information about medical images,, user, results, of diagnosis.

Nickel oxide is a nonstoichiometric transparent conductive oxide with p-type conductivity, a wide-band energy gap of 3.4~4.0 eV, and excellent chemical stability, making it a very important candidate as a material for bipolar devices. P-type conductivity in Transparent Conductive Oxides (TCO) is controlled by the oxygen vacancy concentration. During the TCO film deposition process, additional oxygen diffusing into the NiO structure causes the formation of Ni 3p ions and Ni vacancies. This eventually affects the hole concentration of the p-type oxide thin film. In this work, the surface morphology and the electrical characteristics were confirmed in accordance with the annealing atmosphere of the nickel oxide thin film.

The objective of this study is to present a basis for the evaluation on the renewable energy dissemination program in Korea applying the outcome evaluation, one of the five types of evaluation methods of EERE, DOE, and the effectiveness indicator, which is suggested by IEA, OECD. The outcome evaluation quantifies achievements of program outputs and outcomes against planned time frame. We analyze the correlation coefficients between cumulative expenditure on the renewable energy dissemination program and each renewable energy deployment and the unit installation cost of several dissemination programs for the outcome evaluation. Meanwhile, the effectiveness indicator is calculated by dividing the additional renewable energy deployment achieved in a given year by the remaining mid-term realizable potential to 2020 in each source of renewable energy. The results show that correlation coefficients between cumulative expenditure and each renewable energy deployment are significantly positive during the implementation period of each deployment program. And photovoltaic energy, bio energy, and wind power energy show high effectiveness indicator.
S-band Traveling-Wave Deflecting Structures for the PAL-XFEL

We designed a 20-MV S-band traveling-wave de ecting structure to measure the bunch length of the electron beams for the PAL-XFEL. Since the start of commissioning of all RF systems of the PAL-XFEL on 12 April 2016, two out of three fabricated structures are currently being operated; one each in the hard X-ray and the soft X-ray branches. These de ecting structures were carefully tuned by using a 4-m-long nodal phase scanner in a precisely temperature and humidity controlled cleanroom considering the phase predictions calculated using RF field solvers. We carried out RF conditioning and beam commissioning with highly-stable high-power S-band RF systems and an EPICS-based control system. We brie y present our design of S-band de ecting structure and discuss the test results, including the results of the RF and the beam measurements.
