In this talk we present a class of Lie-Trotter formulae for Hermitian matrices including the formulae derived by Hiai-Petz and Furuta. A Lie-Trotter formula for weighted Log-Euclidean geometric means of several positive definite matrices is given in terms of Sagae-Tanabe geometric and spectral geometric means.
A Pragmatic-Functional Account for Indirect Object Alternation in English Literary Works

This study was intended to demonstrate that two types of indirect object alternation in English literary works have different functions in discourse in association with discoursal principles such as ‘end-weight’ or ‘end-focus’ principle and ‘the given-new information’ principle. This study hypothesized the structure of ‘S + V + I.O + D.O’ is employed more frequently than the structure of ‘S + V + D.O + Preposition + I.O’. This means that the more frequent structure can be an efficient language device along with the discoursal principles. Based on the analysis of data from three English novels, this study yielded some interesting findings as follows. First, the sentence structure of "S + V + I.O + D.O" is much more frequently used than the structure of "S + V + D.O + Preposition + I.O" in English literature. Second, in English literature, the indirect objects in the sentence-final position may be a focal point caused by ‘end-focus" principle. Finally, direct objects in the sentence-final position have a strong tendency to be longer than the indirect objects in the same position due to ‘end-weight’ principle.

This paper discusses the meaning extension of get-phrasal verbs with the verb ‘get’ and some particles(up, out, down, away, off) which are frequently used to make get-phrasal verbs in English semantically and cognitively. It has been discussed that phrasal verbs can be sub-classified into four classes based on the patterns of the contributions of verbs and particles (Patrick & Fletcher, 2006), but this study suggests that get-phrasal verb contains the meaning of both verbs and particles, not either one of them, and their prototypical meanings are gradually extended cognitively and semantically to make more various ones. Furthermore, the verb ‘get’ containing the meaning ‘motion’ is combined with the particular particles with temporal and spatial functions. That is, the meanings of get-phrasal verbs are not clearly divided, but fuzzy and gradually extended from physical ones to abstract and metaphorical ones by the degree of cognitive semantic features. In conclusion, this paper shows one of the evidences that human languages are intrinsically productive, not arbitrary using the verb ‘get’ and particles.

Purpose: Neonatal nurses are expected to have clinical competency to provide qualified and safe care for high-risk infants. An educational intervention to enhance nurses’ clinical competence is often a priority in the nursing field. This study was conducted to explore nurses’ perceived importance and performance confidence of nursing care activities in neonatal intensive care units. Methods: One hundred forty-one neonatal nurses from seven hospitals across South Korea participated in the online survey study. The scale of neonatal nursing care activity consisted of 8 subdomains including professional practice (assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, evaluation, education, research, and leadership). The Importance-Performance Matrix was used to analyze the importance of and confident performance in each of the nursing subdomains. Results: Both importance and performance confidence increased as nurses’ age (p=.042 and p<.001) and clinical experience (p=.004 and p<.001). Participants scored relatively higher in importance and performance confidence in the professional practice subdomains (assessment, intervention, evaluation), but scored lower in the education and research subdomains. Conclusion: To provide evidence-based nursing care for high-risk infants in neonatal intensive care units, educational interventions should be developed to support nurses based on the findings of the research.
무선 멀티미디어 센서 네트워크에서 데이터 손실을 최소화하기 위한 혼잡 제어 기법

최근 무선 센서 네트워크는 멀티미디어 센서 노드를 활용하여 음성 데이터나 영상 데이터 등과 같은 멀티미디어 데이터 수집을 바탕으로 고품질의 환경 모니터링에 대한 요구가 증가하고 있다. 그러나 기존 응용과 달리 멀티미디어 데이터는 크기가 매우 크므로, 병목현상으로 인한 데이터 손실이 발생한다. 본 논문에서는 무선 멀티미디어 센서 네트워크에서 데이터 손실을 최소화하기 위한 혼잡 제어 기법을 제안한다. 제안하는 기법에서는 혼잡 상황에서 데이터 손실 압축과 전송 스케줄링을 이용하여 혼잡을 근본적으로 완화시킨다. 제안하는 기법의 우수성을 보이기 위해 시뮬레이션을 통해 기존에 제안된 혼잡 제어 기법과 성능을 비교하였다. 성능 평가 결과, 기존 기법에 비해 데이터 손실률은 약 73.3% 감소하였으며 에너지 소모는 3% 감소하였다. In recent years, the demands of multimedia data in wireless sensor networks have been significantly increased for the environment monitoring applications that utilize sensor nodes to collect multimedia data such as sound and video. However, since the amount of multimedia data is very large, data loss occurs due to the congestion on particular nodes. In this paper, we propose a novel congestion control scheme for minimizing data-loss in wireless multimedia sensor networks. The proposed scheme alleviates the congestion fundamentally using lossy-compression and transmission scheduling in wireless multimedia sensor networks. To show the superiority of our scheme, we compare it with the existing congestion control scheme. Our experimental results show that the data-loss and the energy consumption of our proposed scheme is reduced by about 73.3% and by about 3% over the existing scheme, respectively.

In this paper we consider weighted arithmetic and geometric means of several positive definite operators proposed by Sagae and Tanabe and we establish a reverse inequality of the arithmetic and geometric means via Specht ratio and the Thompson metric on the convex cone of positive definite operators.
Location-Based TDMA MAC for Reliable Aeronautical Communications

<P>The growth of data traffic as air traffic increases is leading to bottlenecks. We propose a new time division multiple access (TDMA) protocol termed location-based TDMA (LBTM) to accommodate increasing data traffic and air-to-air communications. LBTM provides all three modes of communication: unicast, multicast, and broadcast. ACK needs a long guard time for reliable multicast in the aeronautical environment, because it is a long distance communication system. LBTM uses location information to overcome this problem. We can reduce the guard time of ACK and prevent collisions. In our scheme, multicast aircraft calculate ACK arrival time to ensure that ACKs arrive at the sender at different times. Therefore, LBTM reduces the amount of guard time of ACK and the total average time to complete a reliable multicast MAC request. This results in a significant increase in network utilization and throughput.</P>
