        Recombinant Goat VEGF164 Increases Hair Growth by Painting Process on the Skin of Shaved Mouse

        To detect goat vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-mediated regrowth of hair, full-length VEGF164 cDNA was cloned from Inner Mongolia cashmere goat (Capra hircus) into the pET-his prokaryotic expression vector, and the recombinant plasmid was transferred into E. coli BL21 cells. The expression of recombinant $6{\times}his-gVEGF164$ protein was induced by 0.5 mM isopropyl thio-${\beta}$-D-galactoside at $32^{\circ}C$. Recombinant goat VEGF164 (rgVEGF164) was purified and identified by western blot using monoclonal anti-his and anti-VEGF antibodies. The rgVEGF164 was smeared onto the dorsal area of a shaved mouse, and we noted that hair regrowth in this area was faster than in the control group. Thus, rgVEGF164 increases hair growth in mice.

        Metabolic Regulation of Gene Expression by Histone Lysine β-Hydroxybutyrylation

        <P><B>Summary</B></P> <P>Here we report the identification and verification of a β-hydroxybutyrate-derived protein modification, lysine β-hydroxybutyrylation (Kbhb), as a new type of histone mark. Histone Kbhb marks are dramatically induced in response to elevated β-hydroxybutyrate levels in cultured cells and in livers from mice subjected to prolonged fasting or streptozotocin-induced diabetic ketoacidosis. In total, we identified 44 histone Kbhb sites, a figure comparable to the known number of histone acetylation sites. By ChIP-seq and RNA-seq analysis, we demonstrate that histone Kbhb is a mark enriched in active gene promoters and that the increased H3K9bhb levels that occur during starvation are associated with genes upregulated in starvation-responsive metabolic pathways.       • ER71 specifies Flk-1+ hemangiogenic mesoderm by inhibiting cardiac mesoderm and Wnt signaling

        <B>Abstract</B><P>Two distinct types of Flk-1+ mesoderm, hemangiogenic and cardiogenic, are thought to contribute to blood, vessel, and cardiac cell lineages. However, our understanding of how Flk-1+ mesoderm is specified is currently limited. In the present study, we investigated whether ER71, an Ets transcription factor essential for hematopoietic and endothelial cell lineage development, could modulate the hemangiogenic or cardiogenic outcome of the Flk-1+ mesoderm. We show that Flk-1+ mesoderm can be divided into Flk-1+PDGFRα− hemangiogenic and Flk-1+PDGFRα+ cardiogenic mesoderm. ER71-deficient embryonic stem cells produced only the Flk-1+PDGFRα+ cardiogenic mesoderm, which generated SMCs and cardiomyocytes. Enforced ER71 expression in the wild-type embryonic stem cells skewed toward the Flk-1+PDGFRα− mesoderm formation, which generated hematopoietic and endothelial cells. Whereas hematopoietic and endothelial cell genes were positively regulated by ER71, cardiac and Wnt signaling pathway genes were negatively regulated by ER71. We show that ER71 could inhibit Wnt signaling in VE-cadherin-independent as well as VE-cadherin-dependent VE-cadherin/β-catenin/Flk-1 complex formation. Enforced β-catenin could rescue cardiogenic mesoderm in the context of ER71 overexpression. In contrast, ER71-deficient Flk-1+ mesoderm displayed enhanced Wnt signaling, which was reduced by ER71 re-introduction. We provide the molecular basis for the antagonistic relationship between hemangiogenic and cardiogenic mesoderm specification by ER71 and Wnt signaling.</P>

        Effects of Reagent Rotation on Stereodynamics Information of the Reaction O(<sup>1</sup>D)+H<sub>2</sub> (v = 0, j = 0-5) → OH+H: A Theoretical Study

        Quasiclassical trajectory (QCT) method has been used to investigate stereodynamics information of the reaction $O(^1D)+H_2{\rightarrow}\;OH$+H on the DK (Dobbyn and Knowles) potential energy surface (PES) at a collision energy of 23.06 kcal/mol, with the initial quantum state of reactant $H_2$ being set for v = 0 (vibration quantum number) and j = 0-5 (rotation quantum number). The PDDCSs (polarization dependent differential cross sections) and the distributions of P($\theta_r$), P($\phi_r$), P($\theta_r$, $\phi_r$) have been presented in this work. The results demonstrate that the products are both forward and backward scattered. As j increases, the backward scattering becomes weaker while the forward scattering becomes slightly stronger. The distribution of P($\theta_r$) indicates that the product rotational angular momentum j' tends to align along the direction perpendicular to the reagent relative velocity vector k, but this kind of product alignment is found to be rather insensitive to j. Furthermore, the distribution of P($\phi_r$) indicates that the rotational angular momentum vector of the OH product is preferentially oriented along the positive direction of y-axis, and such product orientation becomes stronger with increasing j.

        A novel red-emitting phosphor Ca9Bi(PO4)7:Eu3+ for near ultraviolet white light-emitting diodes

        Red phosphors Ca9Bi1-x(PO4)7:xEu3+ (x = 0.06, 0.10, 0.20, 0.30, 0.40, 0.50, 0.60, 0.70, 0.80 and 1.00) were synthesized by a conventional solid-state reaction (SSR) route. The X-ray diffraction patterns, photoluminescence spectra, ultravioletevisible reflection spectroscopy, decay time and the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) chromaticity coordinates of these compounds were characterized and analyzed. The Eu-doped Ca9Bi(PO4)7 phosphors exhibited strong red luminescence which peaks located at 615 nm due to the 5D0/7F2 electric dipole transition of Eu3+ ions after excitation at 393 nm. Ultravioletevisible spectra indicated that the band-gap of Ca9Bi0.30(PO4)7:0.70Eu3+ is larger than that of Ca9Bi(PO4)7. The results indicate that the phosphor Ca9Bi0.30(PO4)7:0.70Eu3+ can be a suitable redemitting phosphor candidate for LEDs.

        Optimization of Capacity Configuration of Wind–Solar–Diesel–Storage Using Improved Sparrow Search Algorithm

        In order to reasonably allocate the capacity of distributed generation and realize the goal of stable, economic and clean operation of the system, a multi-objective optimization model with investment cost, environmental protection and power supply quality as indicators has been established, and the multi-objective sparrow search algorithm is used to optimize the solution. Although the multi-objective search algorithm is more effi cient than the traditional single objective algorithm, it is easy to fall into local optimum. To this end, the niche optimization technology is used to improve the optimization eff ect of multi-objective sparrow search algorithm, and the Levy fl ight strategy is introduced to enhance the ability of multi-objective sparrow search algorithm to jump out of local optimum. The calculation example uses the traditional multi-object search algorithm and the niche multi-objective sparrow search algorithm with levy disturbance to solve the proposed model. The simulation results verify the eff ectiveness of the multi-objective sparrow search algorithm improved by levy disturbance and niche optimization technology

        Simulations of the hysteretic behavior of thin-wall cold-formed steel members under cyclic uniaxial loading

        In this paper, the hysteretic behaviors of channel and C-section cold-formed steel members (CFSMs) under cyclic axial loading were simulated with the finite element method. Geometric and material nonlinearities, Bauschinger effect, strain hardening and strength improvement at corner zones were taken into account. Extensive numerical results indicated that, as the width-to-thickness ratio increases, local buckling occurs prematurely. As a result, the hysteretic behavior of the CFSMs degrades and their energy dissipation capability decreases. Due to the presence of lips, the hysteretic behavior of a C-section steel member is superior to that of its corresponding channel section. The intermediate stiffeners in a C-section steel member postpone the occurrence of local buckling and change its shapes, which can greatly improve its hysteretic behavior and energy dissipation capability. Therefore, the CFSMs with a large width-to-thickness ratio can be improved by adding lips and intermediate stiffeners, and can be used more extensively in residential buildings located in seismic areas.
