Development of a Prototype System for Multi Modal Life-log Media Search

Life-logs can help users to store and search for information related to their everyday lives that could otherwise easily be lost. To this end, a wearable sensing technology can be used to collect all the various forms of information that can emerge during the course of an individual’s everyday life. However, the standards for the metadata used to integrate the information input from various sensors in existing sensing technologies have yet to be determined. In addition, as far as the search for large amounts of data is concerned, existing technologies do not have effective search systems that make use of queries requiring highly-advanced functions such as position information. In this study, the metadata standards for lifelog media search were defined. Moreover, a prototypical system with which to search for large amounts of life-log data, including spatial-temporal information, was developed using existing systems.
Real-Time Object Segmentation Architecture for Household Robot Applications

This paper presents hardware architectures of the real-time object segmentation of the noisy disparity map which can be obtained by using stereo matching algorithm. The disparity map contains lots of noise due to various causes, and it has to be refined by some noise filtering methods to make it useful for the object segmentation. In our approach, refinement method based on noise elimination technique is adopted for improvement of the disparity map quality. And the projection-based region merging method is used for object segmentation. The proposed algorithms are implemented in real time FPGA board. Results of real-time test show that our approach works precisely and its performance do not violate realtime qualifications. The developed real-time object segmentation system could be applied for face recognition, object tracking, and other applications with the support of proper embedded software.
Real-Time Color Correction Method for a Low-Cost Still/Video Camera

<P>This paper describes a color correction method of low-cost still/video camera images. Instead of using complex and non-linear equations, the concept of a three-dimensional reduced resolution look-up table is used for the real-time color gamut expansion of low-cost cameras. The proposed method analyzes the color gamut of low cost cameras and constructs 3-dimensional rule tables during the off-line stage. And, real-time color correction is conducted using that rule table. The experimental result shows that output images have more vivid and natural colors compared with originals. The proposed method can be easily implemented with small software and/or hardware resources.</P>
Real-Time Smoke Detection Method for Early Detection of Fire in Road Tunnel

In this paper, we proposed image-processing technique for automatic real-time smoke detection in tunnel fire environment. To minimize false detection of fire in tunnel we used motion information of video sequence. And this makes it possible to detect exact position of event in early stage with detection, test, and verification procedures. In addition, by comparing false detection elimination results of each step, we have proved the validity and efficiency of proposed algorithm.
