Study Design: Retrospective study of data abstracted from the Diagnosis Procedure Combination (DPC) database.Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the effects of surgery in the early phase.Overview of Literature: The optimal timing of surgery for cervical fracture dislocation (CFD) remains unclear because only a few clinical studies with approximately 100 patients have been published.Methods: This study included 4,653 adult patients with a definitive diagnosis of CFD from the DPC database. The database contains nationwide inpatient data collected from >1,000 acute care hospitals in Japan. The DPC database contains information regarding hospitalization, such as diagnosis, treatment, medical history, complications, and hospitalization outcomes. This study identified 460 pairs of patients after one-to-one propensity-score matching (PSM). Treatment outcomes were compared between patients who underwent surgery for CFD within 72 hours (early group) and later (delayed group) after admission. The main outcomes included 30-day mortality, inhospital death, and major complications. The secondary outcomes were improvement in the Barthel index, length of hospital stay, and discharged home rate.Results: After adjusting for PSM, the early group had a significantly higher 30-day mortality rates than the delayed group (3.0% vs. 0.4%, p=0.006). In the multivariate logistic regression analysis after PSM, the early group was associated with an increased risk of 30-day mortality (odds ratio, 8.05; 95% confidence interval, 2.15–5.26; p=0.007).Conclusions: This study indicated that early surgery for CFD resulted in increased 30-day mortality.
Study on Delay Time Evaluation for Carrier Relay System Using IP Communications Technology

The transmission devices of carrier relay system use exclusive transmission devices and do not use IP (Internet Protocol) communications technology. But the IP communications technology has made remarkable advances recently and is used in the world. If Internet technology can adapt for the transmission device of carrier relay system, electric power company can construct the integration network for power protection and control system which includes carrier relay system. In this report, we will assume the network configuration using Internet technology for the transmission devices of a carrier relay system and show that the transmission devices using Internet technology satisfy the carrier relay specification, such as delay time and differential delay time.
Detecting Abnormal Human Movements Based on Variational Autoencoder

Anomaly detection in human movements can improve safety in indoor workplaces. In this paper, we design a framework for detecting anomalous trajectories of humans in indoor spaces based on a variational autoencoder (VAE) with Bi-LSTM layers. First, the VAE is trained to capture the latent representation of normal trajectories. Then the abnormality of a new trajectory is checked using the trained VAE. In this step, the anomaly score of the trajectory is determined using the trajectory reconstruction error through the VAE. If the anomaly score exceeds a threshold, the trajectory is detected as an anomaly. To select the anomaly threshold, a new metric called D-score is proposed, which measures the difference between recall and precision. The anomaly threshold is selected according to the minimum value of the D-score on the validation set. The MIT Badge dataset, which is a real trajectory dataset of workers in indoor space, is used to evaluate the proposed framework. The experiment results show that our framework effectively identifies abnormal trajectories with 81.22% in terms of the F1-score.
Detecting Anomalous Trajectories of Workers using Density Method

Workers’ anomalous trajectories allow us to detect emergency situations in the workplace, such as accidents of workers, security threats, and fire. In this work, we develop a scheme to detect abnormal trajectories of workers using the edit distance on real sequence (EDR) and density method. Our anomaly detection scheme consists of two phases: offline phase and online phase. In the offline phase, we design a method to determine the algorithm parameters: distance threshold and density threshold using accumulated trajectories. In the online phase, an input trajectory is detected as normal or abnormal. To achieve this objective, neighbor density of the input trajectory is calculated using the distance threshold. Then, the input trajectory is marked as an anomaly if its density is less than the density threshold. We also evaluate performance of the proposed scheme based on the MIT Badge dataset in this work. The experimental results show that over 80 % of anomalous trajectories are detected with a precision of about 70 %, and F1-score achieves 74.68 %.
ONTOGENETIC ASPECTS OF STEROIDOGENESIS BY GONADS OF DUCKS AND ITS ROLE IN SEX DIFFERENTIATION

To elucidate the relationship between steroidogenesis and sex differentiation in the duck, plasma, testicular and ovarian testosterone, estradiol-$17{\beta}$ and progesterone concentration in male and female embryo of day 11 to 27 (just before hatching) of incubation and in 1- to 7-day-old male and female duckling were investigated by radioimmunoassays. Plasma estradiol-$17{\beta}$ concentration in female embryos declined from very high at days 11 and 15 of incubation and remained at low levels after hatching. Male plasma estradiol-$17{\beta}$ concentration were always lower than those of the female throughout this period. Plasma testosterone and progesterone concentrations in both sexes were low during the embryonic stage, but then increased to peaks 3 days and 1 day after hatching, respectively. Estradiol-$17{\beta}$ contents were much higher in the left ovary than the right ovary or testes throughout the experimental period. The estradiol-$17{\beta}$ content of the left ovary was very high at day 15 of incubation, and decreased gradually thereafter. Both in right ovary and testes, estradiol-$17{\beta}$ contents were always low. Testosterone and progesterone contents in the left ovary were low from day 11 to 23 of incubation, and reached a peak 1 day after hatching. Progesterone content in the right ovary and testes were low levels over time period examined. Testosterone and progesterone contents were much higher in the left ovary than the right ovary and testes. The present results clearly demonstrate that the capacity of the embryonic left ovary of duck to synthesize estradiol-$17{\beta}$ and testosterone is much higher than that of the embryonic testis. It is suggested that estrogen secreted from the embryonic ovary earlier than day 15 of incubation has an important role in female sexual differentiation in the duck, and the sex of the avian species is basically male with homozygous sex chromosome (ZZ).
