      • Cytosine Arabinoside가 Mouse의 肝臟에 미치는 影響

        It has well known that cytosine arabinoside is a synthetic antineoplastic agent which was substituted of arabinose for ribose and deoxyribose. The precise mechanism of action of cytosine arabinoside has not been determined, although the drug is thought to act as an antimetabolite, interfering with the synthesis of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA). In this experiment, the authors have studied the toxicity of cytosine arabinoside on the mouse liver histo-and histochemically observung the cellular changes, the loss of pyroninophilic granules and accumulation of fat in the hepatic parenchymal cells. Healthy male albino mice of DDY strain were used in this experiment, the weight of the experimental animals was around 20gm. All experimental animals were given food and water unlimited. The animals in the experimental groups were administered cytosine arabinoside, diluted in water for injection, by intraperitoneal injection in a dose of 10mg per kg of body weight in a volume of 0.1ml. At the same time, the control animals were administered only water for injection. The animals of the experimental groups were sacrified at intervals of 6, 12, 24 and 36 hours after administration of cytosine arabinoside, respectively. Histological preparations were prepared by way of hematoxylin and eosin stain for the cellular changes, methyl green-pyronin stain for the loss of pyroninophilic granules and oil red 0 stain for fat accumulation in the mouse liver. In the cytosine arabinoside administered mice, the cellular swelling accompanied with the vesicular formation the loss of pyroninophilic granules and fat accumulation in the hepatic parenchymal cells of liver were observed.

        This study aims at clarifying students' motivation. Educators are inclined to behold outer perspective, focusing on how to create conditions that facilitate learning, how to support. guide, inspire, and promote the learning process. But this issues can be attainable only through the inner perspective by looking at what it is inside the learner that leads them to focus on something, take interest, and assimilate it. But most school activities ate based on extrinsic motivation. which fully effective only by the process of internalization. This internalization categorized into three forms: external regulation introjected regulation, and identifiable regulation. Motivational development proceeds away from heteronomy in regulation and toward autonomy under appropriate conditions. These conditions include provision of autonomy, adequate structure information, context of warm positive involvement on the part of socializers. This research has shown how both parents' and teachers' support for children's autonomy can enhance their self-regulatory capacities. This means that children can grow toward self-regulation if the environment gives over responsibility in accord with their developmental capacity and makes non-arbitrary, potentially meaningful demands.

      • 새로운 Acetylcholinesterase inhibitors의 합성

        노인성 치매의 일종인 alzheimer's disease의 효과적인 억제제를 합성하기 위해 우리는 분자 모델링에 의한 가장 적합한 물질인 m-[(N,N,N-trimethylammonio)phenyl]boronic acid를 합성하였다. 출발물질인 3-aminophenylboronic acid monohydrate의 경우 boronic acid의 작용기인 hydroxyl group을 protecting시킴으로써 반응의 안정성을 기하였다. Quarternary ammonium salt는 과량의 methyliodide와 염기 촉매인 potassium hydrogen carbonate를 사용하여 용매인 methanol에서 반응시켜 상당히 높은 수율을 얻을 수 있었다. 또한 과량의 methyliodide와 염기촉매인 potassium hydrogen carbonate를 사용하여 용매인 methanol에서 반응시킨 결과 boronic acid의 protection없이도 안정하게 반응이 진행되어짐을 확인할 수 있었다. In order to syntheisize a effective inhibotor for alzheimer's disease, we synthesized m-[(N,N,N-trimethylammonio)phenyl]boronic acid 4 which is designed by molecular modeling form. We protected the hydroxyl group of 3-aminophenylboronic acid monohydrate 1 with ethlyne glycol to remove the reactivity if hydroxyl group. To synthesize m-[(N,N,N-trimethylammonio)phenyl]boronic acid 4, we reacted 3-aminophenylboronic acid monohydrate 1 with ezcess methyl iodide and potassium hydrogen carbonate as a base-catalyst in methanol. but On executed reaction without protection on hydroxyl group, we found out the result that the hydroxyl group of boronic acid group at 3-aminophenylboronic acid monohydrate 1 didn't react with excess methyliodide. Synthesized m-[(N,N,N-trimethylammonio)phenyl]boronic acid 4 is in progress about biological tests as a plausible acetylcholinesterase inhibitor.

        SnO<sub>2</sub> nanotubes fabricated using electrospinning and atomic layer deposition and their gas sensing performance

        <P>A novel method is developed to fabricate a SnO<SUB>2</SUB> nanotube network by utilizing electrospinning and atomic layer deposition (ALD), and the network sensor is proven to exhibit excellent sensitivity to ethanol owing to its hollow, nanostructured character. The electrospun polyacrylonitrile (PAN) nanofibers of 100–200 nm diameter are used as a template after stabilization at 250 °C. An uniform and conformal SnO<SUB>2</SUB> coating on the nanofiber template is achieved by ALD using dibutyltindiacetate (DBTDA) as the Sn source at 100 °C and the wall thickness is precisely controlled by adjusting the number of ALD cycles. The calcination at 700 °C transforms the amorphous nanofibers into SnO<SUB>2</SUB> nanotubes composed of several nanometer-sized crystallites. The SnO<SUB>2</SUB> nanotube network sensor responds to ethanol, H<SUB>2</SUB>, CO, NH<SUB>3</SUB> and NO<SUB>2</SUB> gases, but it exhibited an extremely high gas response to ethanol with a short response time (<5 s). The results demonstrate that the combination of electrospinning and ALD is a very effective and promising technique to fabricate long and uniform metal oxide nanotubes with the precise control of wall thickness, which can be applied to various applications such as gas sensors and lithium ion batteries. </P>

        Terahertz Quantum Plasmonics of Nanoslot Antennas in Nonlinear Regime

        <P>Quantum tunneling in plasmonic nanostructures has presented an interesting aspect of incorporating quantum mechanics into classical optics. However, the study has been limited to the subnanometer gap regime. Here, we newly extend quantum plasmonics to gap widths well over 1 nm by taking advantage of the low-frequency terahertz regime. Enhanced electric fields of up to 5 V/nm induce tunneling of electrons in different arrays of ring-shaped nanoslot antennas of gap widths from 1.5 to 10 nm, which lead to a significant nonlinear transmission decrease.       • Brookite TiO<sub>2</sub> Thin Film Epitaxially Grown on (110) YSZ Substrate by Atomic Layer Deposition

        <P>Epitaxial brookite TiO<SUB>2</SUB> (B-TiO<SUB>2</SUB>) film was deposited on (110) yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) substrate using plasma-enhanced atomic layer deposition, and its structural, optical, and gas sensing properties were investigated. As-deposited TiO<SUB>2</SUB> film was a pure brookite and (120) oriented. The determined in-plane orientation relationships were [21̅0]<SUB>B–TiO<SUB>2</SUB></SUB>//[1̅10]<SUB>YSZ</SUB> and [001]<SUB>B–TiO<SUB>2</SUB></SUB> //[001]<SUB>YSZ</SUB>. The B-TiO<SUB>2</SUB> film showed ∼70% transmittance and the optical band gap energy was 3.29 eV. The B-TiO<SUB>2</SUB> film-based gas sensor responded to H<SUB>2</SUB> gas even at room temperature and the highest magnitude of the gas response was determined to be ∼150 toward 1000 ppm of H<SUB>2</SUB>/air at 150 °C.         Leafy Vegetable Mix Supplementation Improves Lipid Profiles and Antioxidant Status in C57BL/6J Mice Fed a High Fat and High Cholesterol Diet

        Daily consumption of an antioxidant-rich leafy vegetable mix (LVM) was assessed for beneficial effects on plasma lipid profiles, tissue lipid peroxidation, and oxidative DNA damage in C57BL/6J mice fed a high fat and high cholesterol diet (20% fat and 1% cholesterol, wt/wt) for 4 weeks. The LVM contained beet leaf, angelica, red leaf lettuce, dandelion, green cos lettuce, lollo rosso, romaine lettuce (12.5%, respectively), scotch kale, and red kale (6.25%, respectively). The mice (n=16) were randomly divided into either the control (high fat and cholesterol diet without LVM) or the LVM (high fat and cholesterol diet with 8% LVM supplement) groups after a 1-week acclimation. Lipid peroxidation as measured by thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances in the plasma, liver, heart, and kidney was significantly lower. Antioxidants (glutathione and $\beta$-carotene) and antioxidant enzyme activities (glutathione peroxidase, glutathione reductase, and superoxide dismutase) were improved in mice fed LVM diet. In the comet assay, tail extent moment, olive tail moment, and tail length were significantly less in the hepatocyte and lymphocyte DNA of the LVM group, indicating the beneficial effect of LVM on the resistance of hepatocytes and lymphocytes DNA to oxidative damage. Findings from the present study suggest that dietary supplementation with LVM may be useful for protecting cells from lipid peroxidation and oxidative DNA damage.

        Fecal Metabolic Activities of Herbal Components to Bioactive Compounds

        The herbal components should be transformed to bioactive compounds by the intestinal bacteria and then expressed the pharmacological action of herbal medicines. Human fecal enzyme activities related to the metabolism of herbal components were measured. The metabolic activities of puerarin, poncirin, glycyrrhizin, ginsenoside Rb1 and ginsenoside Rb2 to their bioactive compounds were $3.5{\pm}1.18,{\;}333.1{\pm}183.64,{\;}95.7{\pm}107.1,{\;}20.8{\pm}10.32{\;}and{\;}20.8{\pm}13.3{\;}{\mu}mo1/h/g$, respectively. The profile of these metabolic activities of glycyrrhizin and ginsenosides were not changed even if herbal extracts, water extract of Glycyrrhizae Radix and Ginseng Radix, instead of the isolated compounds were used . All the enzyme activities tested were not different between male and female, and between ages. However, the difference of these enzyme activities in individuals was significant. These results suggest that the metabolic activity of herbal components to bioactive compounds may be a factor of constitutional classification, and could be available for constitutional classifications, if the constitutional herbal medicines were used .

        Purpose:Although surgical resection is the most effective treatment for hepatocellular 4 carcinoma (HCC), high recurrence after resection is a major challenging problem. We attempted to determine the optimal strategies for improving the long-term surgical outcome through the review of our 10 years’ experience with surgically treating HCC. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 497 patients who received curative resection at the Yonsei University Health System from January 1996 to August 2006. Results: The 5 year disease-free rate and the overall survival rate after curative resection were 45.0% and 63.9%, respectively. Of the 497 patients, 491 (98.8%) were Child-Pugh A and 107 (56.3%) were diagnosed with liver cirrhosis. The postoperative complication and mortality rates were 28.6% and 1.8%, respectively. Of the 243 recurrent patients, 184 (75.7%) were diagnosed with intrahepatic recurrence alone. Of these intrahepatic recurrent patients, 169 (91.9%) received active treatment, including transplantation (n=7), re-resection (n=12), local ablation therapy (n=18) and transarterial chemoembolization (n=132). Multivariate analysis revealed that perioperative transfusion, a satellite nodule, the pathologic TNM stage, the Edmondsons-Steiner grade, the serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and aspartate aminotransferase levels and cirrhosis were associated with disease free survival, and perioperative transfusion, a satellite nodule, macroscopic vascular invasion, the Edmondsons-Steiner grade, the ALP and serum albumin levels and the platelet count were related with overall survival after resection. Conclusions: The long-term surgical outcome of HCC can be further improved by proper patient selection, delicately performed surgery and administering postoperative adjuvant therapy for patients with a high risk of recurrence. Early diagnosis and aggressive treatment are needed to treat the recurrence.
