Mediation models are widely used in many fields of research and have recently gained attention in epidemiology. The mediation proportion is a standard measure to evaluate what part of the total exposure effect on an outcome may be explained by a particular mediator and to examine how important that pathway is relative to the overall exposure effect. A common question is how large a sample size is needed to achieve high statistical power or, equivalently, what magnitude of effect can be detected. Current power and sample size calculations for mediation analysis are limited and additional research is needed. We therefore propose a computer-intensive power analysis using the mediation proportion. We conduct simulation studies to calculate statistical powers and sample sizes. And then, we illustrate our power analysis using an example from the Adult Health Study of atomic-bomb survivors and demonstrate that the method is relatively straightforward to understand and compute.

Streaming potential and groundwater contamination
Baker Simon S.,Cull James P. Korean Society of Earth and Exploration Geophysici 2004 지구물리와 물리탐사 Vol.7 No.1
Measurements of streaming potential can provide a means for the detection and quantification of contaminants in groundwater prior to remediation. However, laboratory determinations of specific electrolyte properties are required for an adequate analysis of the hydraulic gradient in complex situations. Data obtained for the King River in Tasmania confirm a linear relationship linking streaming potential data and hydraulic gradients. Laboratory samples at low concentration (0.001M KCl) indicate values in the range 20-80 mV/cm of water pressure, while for higher concentrations (0.01M KCl) values are less than 25 mV/cm. Similar ion concentrations are observed in the King River, consistent with field correlations indicating values for streaming potential close to 15 mV/cm. In-situ fluid samples are required for more detailed analysis of local anomalies that may be associated with variations in recharge and migration of contaminants.
Effect of Washing and Additives on Cel Formation of Squid Surimi
Cho, Young Je,LEE, Nahm Cull 한국수산학회 1996 한국수산과학회지 Vol.29 No.6
Effects of washing and additives on the texture of squid surimi gel which has been known to hard to gelation due to high protease activities and many water solubles were studied by SDS-PAGE, compression test, jelly strength and transmission electron microscopy analysis(TEM). Myosin(205kDa) heavy chain was the major protein in water soluble fractions. It was impossible to make a gel after washing of the minced squid meat. These results suggested that squid(Todarodes pacificus) minced meat does not need a washing for good jelly products. 3.0% of bovine plasma protein(BPP) produced the hardest gel(16% harder than the control) among the additives including egg white(EW), potato extracts(PE) and transglutaminase-K(TG-K) by compression test(P>0.05). Microstructure of control, 2% EW and 4% TG-K treated gels showed a sponge-like structure with more vacant space. Gels containing 3% BPP formed the most rigid and arranged networks. Those results indicates that poor gel-network formation was due to the degradation of myofibrillar proteins by proteases contained in the minced meat, which result in non-interlinkage.
태양광 발전 시스템의 화재 위험 감소 방안에 관한 이론적 연구

This study is based on the principle of solar power system and fire breakout. The result of the survey indicates that a solar power system is vulnerable to fire due to lack of maintenance after the installation. Currently the national fire safety agency does not have standards and legal provisions for the installation and maintenance of solar power facilities. Therefore, it increases the risk of fire breakouts as well as possibility of electric shock for the firefighters during fire fighting. This results possible damages to the human and equipments. In this study is proposing an automatic fire extinguishing system to reduce the power generation of solar panels during fire breakouts. Also, propose an over load current alarm system and fire prevention measures for fire fighters. The results of this study will be used as basic data for further fire testing of solar power systems.

Magnetotelluric(MT) soundings were done in Central Victoria, Australia, to investigate the electrical conductivity structure of the Bendigo and Melbourne structural zones. We reprocess and reinterpret the MT data, which were acquired along the same path as the seismic transect in 2006 by GeoScience Victoria (GSV). Deep crustal faulting in this region is considered to be responsible for significant mineralization and magmatic processes. The resulting two dimensional (2D) MT conductivity model is consistent with the seismic interpretation in that it clearly shows known boundaries as well, as additionally reveals four clearly isolated resistors, which could be hardly imaged by reflection seismic. With the result previously published, these resistors can be interpreted as granite or granodiorite intruded in the Devonian, or alteration associated with fluid migration. The 2-D electric conductivity model also agrees with seismic interpretations, which shows that internal faults in the Bendigo Zone are thrust fault systems with listric geometries that are connected in the mid-crust, and clarifies that the Bendigo Zone and Melbourne Zone experienced different tectonic evolution during the Benambran Orogeny in the Silurian. The model also supports the conjecture that the Melbourne Zone formed as a foreland basin to the uplifted Bendigo Zone.
